What are the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup and/or Canadian Championship? These two competitions are the tournaments to determine the best club, regardless of level of play, in their respective country. What this really means is any team, regardless of how good they are, can win a trophy. What's so important about these competitions? Other than the trophy, the winners of these competitions get access to the CONCACAF Champions League, where they will proceed to lose to a Mexican team in increasingly depressing fashion. Who gets to play? All professional teams are eligible for the competitions unless they are a USL reserve squad (I'm looking at you, los Dos); amateur and semi-pro teams must qualify in their respective leagues and competitions. How do the competitions work? USA: 94 teams Canada: 13 teams USA: Knockout Canada: Home-and-home with away goals rule USA: First Round (USL Leagues One and Two, NPSL, and other assorted amateur teams enter) Second Round (USL Championship teams enter) Third Round Fourth Round (MLS teams enter) Four Rounds afterwards Canada: First qualifying round (Vaghuan Azzurri, AS Blainville, and four CanPL teams enter) Second qualifying round (the other three CanPL teams enter) Third qualifying round (Ottawa, Vancouver, and Montreal enter) Semi-Finals (Toronto enters) Final The U.S. Open Cup is usually bracketed by geography, and starting with the Round of 16 there is a fixed bracket. The Canadian Championship's fixtures have all been set already. Where can I watch these games? The Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup is exclusivly on ESPN+, while OneSoccer hosts the Canadian Championship. When does this start? The U.S. Open Cup begins tonight, while the Canadian Championship begins next week. Edward Mass fucked around with this message at 02:00 on May 23, 2019 |

I like that Orange County FC is playing Orange County SC in the second round. Some serious quality there in name choices. I am actually looking forward to streaming Cal/Vegas, partially because Vegas is just bat poo poo crazy, but mostly just to see if Cal FC can replicate some of their magic from 2012 or whatever it was.

Edward Mass posted:May 14 Full time: Tampa Bay Rowdies 4-1 The Villages. Al Lang looking good on the livestream; I don't know what the attendance was, but the tickets were free/open to the public, and the midfield section which faces the TV cameras was packed; it is usually empty due to no-show corporate tickets. Anyway good show, Rowdies haven't been on a decent US Open Cup run since we beat the Sounders back in 2013; cautiously optimistic so far but don't want to jinx it. We've been pretty crap in the US Open Cup after 2013 so who knows.

Cal FC looks better than Vegas so far in the first 15 minutes, although I'm guessing that'll change pretty soon as they tire out. e: literally as I posted that Vegas scored. binge crotching fucked around with this message at 03:52 on May 15, 2019 |

Nashville 3-2 South Georgia Tormenta 2 We were never really in danger but it got a bit nervy in the last five minutes or so. Their first goal was a pair of bad mistakes from a defender and a goalkeeper, and the second was a poorly covered corner. Really should've kept a clean sheet but I'm just glad we advanced at this point. We play the winner of the Charleston Battery - Greenville Triumph game tomorrow. e: Here's the first goal. Very nicely weighted through ball from Alan Winn, who ended up getting MotM with a goal and two assists https://twitter.com/opencup/status/1128464364120317953?s=19 brasstassels fucked around with this message at 05:31 on May 15, 2019 |

ROUND 1 SECOND LEG HFX leads Vaughn 3-2 on aggregate with 3 road goals. York9 and Blainville are tied 0-0 and this is probably going to penalties, because York suuuuuucks. Cavalry leads Pacific 2-0 with 2 road goals, and will likely put up 2 or 3 more with the way they've been going this season.
