Yes, e.g. this. A different study I read maybe four or five years ago suggested a team could gain a non-trivial amount of points (I want to say it was like 8.5, which can be the difference between playoffs or golf course) over the course of a season by pulling the goalie much earlier, though I don't have it on hand.
