Corrivale System, Planet Grith, Nightfall over Diamond Point

Once a simple mining outpost, Corrivale became known in the galactic community for its alien ruins and its extensive Sesheyan population. Home to pirates, mercenaries, and other lawless types, the Sesheyans try to replicate their ancestral ways with some success, but due to lax and chaotic rule, mostly lawlessness. Rumors of a return to Voidcorp occupation come from the mining vessels that shuttle between Grith and the belt, but the Hatire Diocese keeps those to merely rumors, for now.

The Achilles Fleet, holds stocked with weapons of all kinds, has come to Grith and the city of Diamond Point to trade with a local, Ignario Wilson, head of Wilson's Game Outfitters, in the latest weaponry from Old Space. While many tourists who go big game hunting bring their own equipment, there is still a decent trade in laser and mass weaponry. In addition, if the right contacts can be made, decent profits can be made selling the more military minded hardware to the Sesheyans and their private armies.

The drives hum as the ship enters the atmosphere, red hot fires licking their way across the hull. The spectacle is visible for hundreds of kilometers as the ship landing, as per protocol on Grith, takes place at night. The fires clear as Achilles slows down to a more reasonable atmospheric speed, coming into the runaway. As the ship comes to a complete stop and is quickly ushered into a nearby hangar a sigh of relief can be felt. The trip to Corrivale from Old Space was a long one, even at 50 light years a starfall, plus the three weeks from Tendril and the Lighthouse on their own Stardrive.

Step One, please post your character sheet in the thread so I can keep track of your skills and stuff. Step Two, please tell me, in character, what your character wants to do now that they're not stuck breathing recycled air.

Buddy paces around the Priest like a fighting cock and bobs his head. His right hands fidgets excitedly over his pistol while his left taps a complicated pattern over his chest. He freezes for a good second as Balthasar leaves, then shakes his shoulders in his equivalent to a shrug.

He'd found through experimentation that human alcohol did depress key parts of the T'sa nervous system. However, he still wasn't sure why humans liked doing that. “Buddy” (B’tik’tak)

Buddy nods 31 times and goes from tapping his pistol to checking the ammo and charge. Work before pleasure, they needed to meet with Ignario and make this deal. He follows close behind Ander and goes from a full pace to more controlled twitches. Don't make a show. Don't talk. Don't shoot unless the deal goes bad. They're more fun when they go bad, but Ander liked a smooth deal and Buddy wouldn't ruin his friend's fun.

"We're here, we're here, we're finally here!" Z'ra does a quick spin-in-place as her feet touch solid ground for the first time in... far too long. She looks around, chuckling at the Commodore and a bit nervious when meeting Buddy's gaze, and then nods. "Roger that! We'll be on our way then." She does a quick salute to Ander as he leaves, and follows along with the bar group, absentmindedly scanning the local networks for any news or places of interest.

Bar Planetfall

Built from the remains of a crashed pirate ship, the bar Planetfall was the perfect place to hook up with the usual scum and villainy that lurks around the more lawless parts of planets. The local considered the place to be neutral ground, but fights would still break out, spacers being what they are. So far there'd only been one stabbing and nobody had drawn a gun of any kind, the night was still young however, and since nights on Grith lasted around 18 hours that was saying something.

Sets of Sesheyan ears perk up and beady eyes lock onto the group as they walk through what remains of an airlock and now serves as a front door. The interior is smoky, thick with incense that smells of shadowy jungles and cool glades. The lights are so low hands can barely be seen in front of faces, but the Sesheyan servers and night vision equipped locals get by just fine.

A short Sesheyan comes up and guides the group to an open table, she shouts over the primal drumbeat of the local band. "What can I get for you?"


Wilson's Game Outfitters

The head of a massive fanged beast, no doubt local to the jungles of Grith, is mounted above the entrance to the store and safari location. A few customers wander about the store, examining the electrochemical weapons and lasers on display. Sesheyan clerks attend to them, their wings folded and their attitudes obsequious. Behind the main counter a thin-looking human glances up from his Grid gauntlet and smiles. "Just the fellow I was waiting for. Port Authority told me you just got in a little while ago. I trust your trip was pleasant enough." Wilson doesn't look like a big game hunter or tracker, and he isn't, it's well known that he has a constant need for more expert guides.

Wheeling over to the table, the diminutive robot does a strange shuffle before its legs telescope enough to sit in an actual seat. Of course, getting into said seat is another matter entirely. With a modicum of flailing, tipping, light swearing, and more than one near-drop of its hat, Fiver finally reaches a regular seating-equivalent position. "I don't know about them, but I'd quite like to peruse your high-end libations, if you'd please!"

Walking in with a smile, Z'ra waves and nods at anyone who makes eye contact and sits down, getting comfortable - well, as comfortable as a chair designed for Sesheyans can be at least, She chuckles and shakes her head at the robot's order. "I'll just have what the fop's having." Literally. She's pretty sure the chassis isn't entirely waterproofed, and even if it is there's no alcohol receptacle on it. But hey, at least this way the liquor won't go to waste! Probably.

Trip went as well as can be expected from being crammed inside a tin can surrounded by vacuum and whatever the hell it is outside during starfall. Get to know your mates really well. Sometimes maybe too well, if you catch me, which makes our little stop here all the more welcome. We've got your shipment back in the hold. How do you want to do this? You can swing over and check it out if you'd like, or we can just bring it all over here at your leisure and work out the details from there."

"Assuming everything checks out, I'll transfer the Concord Dollars straight to your account and have my crew take the cargo off your hands."

"Two Cometary Halos, coming up." The Sesheyan replies and waits for the others to place their orders before leaving to fetch the drinks.

While they wait, another Sesheyan dressed in tribal garb slides up to the table, taking a bow and blinking slowly. "You are outlanders, are you not? I have need of outland trade." He says, his Galactic Standard heavily accented.

A drink seemingly materializing in his hand, as if he was born with it already there, Balthasar lifts the glass high for his toast. "To the fine Sesheyan peoples!" he remarks, not clearly to anyone in particular, but getting a few hurrahs from random individuals, before downing his drink in one gulp. His face takes on a thoughtful countenance. "Ahh, that burns even hotter than the Rovanian in the throat. Well. Another!" When a second round appears, Balthasar raises a second toast. "To the laborers of the universe, who earn their bread through honest toil!" This gets a few more hearty replies. A third drink comes at his suggestion. "To the lovers and sweethearts we've all left behind!" By this point the large man has become a figure of fun, and each time he raises his glass, someone calls out something else to toast, which he enthusiastically echoes. A fourth, a fifth, a sixth, and finally after the seventh, Balthasar puts the glass down and bows.

"Now now," he says to those urging him onward, "'Wine is a mocker, strong drink a brawler, And whoever is intoxicated by it is not wise.'" There is a disappointment in the air. "But there's nothing about a weaker drink!" he adds, the tingling in his brain beginning.

I'll be honest, I've got a hankering for some surface entertainment myself, and food that doesn't taste like stale air and sadness."

Planetfall

The crowd is surprised at Balthasar's ability to drink, even if the local ale can hardly be considered such. Sesheyans have a lower average tolerance for alcohol than humans, thanks to their smaller sizes and different metabolisms. Even so, a human knocking back seven glasses of increasingly alcoholic beverages earns him a goodly reputation with the locals as a man who knows how to party.

You get one favor to spend at the bar, it can be information, a small piece of gear, even a short term mercenary contract.


The Sesheyan tribal imitates a human nod, his oblong head bouncing up and down oddly. "We need Bantam rockets, anti-air." He very carefully pronounces the clearly unfamiliar words. "Jungle airspace incursion, not allowed, poachers. Rockets will shoot down aircars."

The Achilles Fleet hold lacks bantam rockets and their required launching system. However, the ship's armory can fabricate a half dozen launchers and a pallet's worth of missiles in two days, but that will empty the ship's stores of volatile chemicals, which can't be easily replaced out here. So the question remains, can a good deal be had?

The customer laughs as the clerk looks shocked, his eyes rippling. "Man is only in the top ten of dangerous prey my good T'sa. I've hunted Weren with traditional weaponry, now there's a challenge. Nigh bulletproof fur, eviscerating claws, a mind like a steel trap and a body with redundant organs, I still keep the pelt, even though it's illegal in Concord space."

Wilson pays his customer no mind as he concludes business. "Tomorrow it is. I'll drop by around local noon, give your boys a chance to sober up."

He only gets violent with folks that deserve violencing. Usually. Great to have in a fight, though, especially when the unexpected happens. Gotta love his enthusiasm. Certainly been helpful showing folks who've thought we were easy marks that maybe they had better reassess their life choices on the fly."

"Buddy, you want to stay here and discuss the finer points of hunting Intelligent Game, or you going to come with and see what everyone else has gotten up to? We might need to rescue Balthasar from himself if he's decided to see whether he can run the bars out of booze."

"Anyway, VoidCorp has mining satellites in the Belt and on a few of the outer planets. If you deal with them, make no mention of us, or we will have no transaction." The last word comes out as a sibilant hiss.

Buddy and I just wrapped up here in Wilson's and were thinking to join up with everyone.
He looks back to the counter at Wilson. "Well, looks like we'll be seeing you tomorrow at the ship to inspect and take ownership of the shipment. Time to head to the next business opportunity; got to make some cash for the return trip away from here, after all!" With that he pulls his coat closer around him and heads out into the street.

The Sesheyan begins the process of haggling for the missiles, factoring in various things the team thinks the missiles and launchers are worth 610,000 Concord dollars (factoring in the shall we say less than legal markup), a hefty sum, but only about equal to a single ship loan payment. The Sesheyan, meanwhile, wants to pay half that.

Ander walks into the bar and begins looking around for the rest of his crew. On seeing them, he sits down across from the Seshyan

"So I hear you're looking to arrange a transaction with us? Ander Gaskin. I'm afraid that the price you're quoting us is much too low. First there's the opportunity cost involved--not to be too crude, but you want these items and we're in a position to get them for you, no questions asked and no trace back. Plus we have to deal with VoidCorp to get the necessary volatiles, not to mention getting them back without inquiry. Then there's a small fee for our friendly service and understanding of your desire to skip the formalities of documentation and waivers. The whole thing carries a degree of risk to my crew and me that we're willing to undertake provided there's suitable compensation. Ander and the Sesheyan butt heads over the pricing, eventually coming to a compromise. Delivery would be made directly on the pad, leaving the Sesheyans to actually move the missiles to their home undetected, and they would pay 500,000 Concord Dollars for the deal, half today, half on delivery. The bargaining leaves both parties exhausted, each having to deal with cultural differences they're unfamiliar with. The Sesheyan Chief nearly walked away when Ander offered him a drink, for example, and a knife fight nearly broke out when the Chief tried to hand his knife to Ander blade first, signifying closing the deal.

The Next Day, Spaceport

The deal for the laser rifles goes according to plan and the crew is suddenly 300,000 Concord Dollars richer. It's not a lot considering the laser rifles sell for half that in Old Space, but Wilson will still be able to turn a profit as well by selling these Military Grade laser rifles to sportsmen for whom money is no object.

A bit of local Grid searching revealed the target for volatile chemicals. The VoidCorp outposts on Iphus. A dark, cold planet, Iphus is almost entirely controlled by VoidCorp from their Executive Tower at Iphus 1. The strip mines and refineries of Iphus produce all the materials needed for the fabricator bay to produce the missiles the Sesheyans want and there are two ways to get your hands on them.

The easy way, of course, is to fly the Achilles Fleet to Iphus 1, dock there, and simply purchase the chemicals, plastics, and metals, which will run approximately 50,000 Concord Dollars with VoidCorp's usual markup.

The hard way, however, is to find a gap in Voidcorp's orbital patrol network, descend to an uninhabited refinery, and just steal the materials.
