A unique kiwi-developed 32-bit memory operating system called FAMOS. Very fast! If you think a RAM-Disk system makes a conventional disk operating system fast, a RAM-RAM system like FAMOS is the ultimate in speed.

Programmed in 100% assembler over countless thousands of hours to ensure maximum performance.

No, it's not an Apple or Mac OS, neither is it a Linux or Windows OS, but those are the only options trademe gives in the OS category!

Easy to use, and also comes with lots of documentation and built-in help too.

To be available in several distributions, right up to a System Development Kit where you can customise and re-build your own OS (from scratch if desired!)

This is the Classic Games & Music (CGM) distribution which comes with many favourite classic games as well as several applications including bitmap and animated GIF viewers, a synthesizer, an Amiga Module player and a selection of Amiga MODs in a variety of genres. Plus lots more!

Comes installed on a beautifully IBM-engineered SFF PC (measuring only 27.5cm wide by 27cm deep by 8.5cm high), complete with a high quality Lenovo keyboard, a 17-inch LCD screen and a new DVI cable.

I want to revisit the '0x' notation convention used by C/C++ etc which I absolutely despise because I feel strongly that it is totally illogical and therefore completely without merit.

For a start it obviously requires ALL hex numbers to start with a '0' whether they need to or not. That's inefficient and just plain DUMB!!

Secondly it uses 'x' for hex. That's about as logical as using 'y' for assembly or 'r' for assembler... h is for hex, just as d is for decimal etc.

Thirdly, it precedes the hex number with its stupid notation which probably prevents the 2-char sequence '0x' ever being used as a string elsewhere, at least not without some useless warning message from the compiler...

So its clearly time for a far superior HLL, maybe called C++++, in which hex numbers are ONLY identified by a trailing 'h' and must be preceded by a '0' ONLY if they start with an 'alpha' digit

quote:

P.S. There are no "files" or "folders" in FAMOS. All programs and data
in memory are indexed in the Memory Contents Database (MCD) setup
and maintained by FAMOS. The MCD provides multiple sorting and
selection fields called "groups" which produces a result similar
to folders or "directories", but is far more flexible as well as
being less complex to implement.

Similarly all data stored on disks (whether programs or true "data")
are indexed in the Storage Contents Database (SCD), which is located
on the disk. The SCD format is identical to the Memory Contents MCD
except that it contains Start and Finish disk sectors instead of
linear memory addresses. When an item is copied from disk to memory
the Mass Storage utility also copies the SCD entry straight into the
MCD, replacing only the disk sector info with the memory addresses.

Now is that elegantly simple, or what?

Even better, there are no File Allocation Tables or "FAT"s, no FCB's,
(or MCB's for that matter), no file handles, and no possibility of
storage media ever becoming "fragmented", and hence even slower!

Remember, if U get FAMOS, FAMOS will be FAMOUS

“no files” *invents disk regions that contain data, pointed to by central index*

this is a idiot’s misconception of what is wrong with real operating systems addressed by amateurish “solutions”
