Its amazing how bad popular music got in the late 90s/early 2000s. It wasn't a steady decline; it just fell off of a cliff.

Clear channel and the big labels still had a chokehold over what was played on the radio, and the lesson they learned from the 70s-80s was that if you bet big on real artists and give them money and creative control theyll just make a bunch of edgy music that will turn Christian moms against you and then die embarrassingly with the new album unfinished. They thought they could use their monopoly power to just turn all music into inoffensive, uninspired noise that pays just as well if theres nothing else on the market. Thank God for napster

Angry/edgy music from that era really does have the double misfortune of having been both crappy at the time and utterly embarrassing in retrospect.

Now that we're all living in Hellworld, we can remember all the white dudes with frosted tips and lovely tats yelling about something or other and think, "holy christ, what did we even have back then to be so angry about?"

Nothing to see here. Move along.

I was a huge Limp Bizkit fan in middle school. I wore the backwards red Yankee's hat everywhere and would always be listening to their songs. Its actually where my username came from. A friend of mine told me since I'm from Wisconsin and love Limp Bizkit my new nickname is Limp Cheese.

That was 15 years ago and Ive been using it online ever since. Its unique enough that throughout all these years I've only found a few instances when that name was taken on websites.

Thank you Kendrick, you were an amzing bro. I will always fondly remember your rants about how snow is racist because its not black.

It's not how good they made the song, it's how much worse it is than the original.

Someone here once described Nu-Metal as a bunch of guys who couldn't invoke the 70s-80s metal of their dads who beat on them, so they had to come up with their own sound.

The best thing about the Nu Metal era was that anyone could buy a $200 guitar, tune it to drop D and then play basically every song on the radio with like 2 weeks of practice.
