Necros posted:i saw them and machine gun kelly in DC years ago. machine gun kelly leaped into the crowd, crowdsurfed away from security trying to pull him out, climbed up to the second floor balcony, caught a mic up there and picked up his verse without missing a beat and it fuckin owned. then a while later he came out on stage in a chicken costume and started humping fred durst. The guy who had to cancel a show because he got punched in the chest 65 times?

Its amazing how bad popular music got in the late 90s/early 2000s. It wasn't a steady decline; it just fell off of a cliff.

Kak posted:Its amazing how bad popular music got in the late 90s/early 2000s. It wasn't a steady decline; it just fell off of a cliff. Clear channel and the big labels still had a chokehold over what was played on the radio, and the lesson they learned from the 70s-80s was that if you bet big on real artists and give them money and creative control theyll just make a bunch of edgy music that will turn Christian moms against you and then die embarrassingly with the new album unfinished. They thought they could use their monopoly power to just turn all music into inoffensive, uninspired noise that pays just as well if theres nothing else on the market. Thank God for napster

Angry/edgy music from that era really does have the double misfortune of having been both crappy at the time and utterly embarrassing in retrospect. Now that we're all living in Hellworld, we can remember all the white dudes with frosted tips and lovely tats yelling about something or other and think, "holy christ, what did we even have back then to be so angry about?"

Lol at posting "what did we have to be angry about in the 90s" at a Marxist forum 90s were poo poo, 00s were poo poo, 10s were poo poo, see the theme?

I was a huge Limp Bizkit fan in middle school. I wore the backwards red Yankee's hat everywhere and would always be listening to their songs. Its actually where my username came from. A friend of mine told me since I'm from Wisconsin and love Limp Bizkit my new nickname is Limp Cheese. That was 15 years ago and Ive been using it online ever since. Its unique enough that throughout all these years I've only found a few instances when that name was taken on websites. Thank you Kendrick, you were an amzing bro. I will always fondly remember your rants about how snow is racist because its not black.

Skypie posted:they might be bad but "Behind Blue Eyes" is a masterpiece and they don't get enough credit for it. Underrated song of the early 2000s, imo It's not how good they made the song, it's how much worse it is than the original.

The best thing about the Nu Metal era was that anyone could buy a $200 guitar, tune it to drop D and then play basically every song on the radio with like 2 weeks of practice.
