I just started playing DS, and I'm going in 99% blind. All I know is that Norman is a courier, and there's invisible ghost things.

I have gotten up to the 3rd mission/job thing, and I have no loving idea what's happening, but I'm enjoying it.

Wheeee posted:

All you need to know about Death Stranding is that it's a Kojima game in which you play a man named Sam Porter Bridges, who works as a porter, for an organization named Bridges.

Yeah I knew I'd be getting Kojima Weirdness™, but it was probably going to be a good ride.
Wasn't Sam's Mom named Bridget too?
Bridget B. Bridges, of the Bridgeport Bridges?

People taking new/odd names after societal collapse reminded me of Stephen King's The Stand. In the book, I remember nobody batting an eye when Trashcan Man introduced himself to Flagg's people, and another guy called himself Ace High. I mean, there's no need to worry about having your name tied to some government database or pension plan anymore, so gently caress it. Call yourself whatever you like.

Made some more progress, still have no clue what the good goddamn is going on.

Ran into a couple of MULEs. Apparently they're obsessed with hoarding cargo? I got detected and had to fight them off. After knocking them out, I wondered why Sam didn't just kill them and be done, but then I remembered "oh yeah, dead bodies explode like atomic bombs or something".

I was given some bombs made of poop ( :darksouls:) to throw at BTs, but I couldn't tell if it did anything.

I got a trike! Neat! Is there any way to rappel this thing up a steep cliff, or am I stuck driving around?

Any non-spoilery tips for a newbie at this point? I took a look at the Before I Play page for DS and have been using that as an early guide so far.

I was cruising around on my zippy little Trike, and I had a small mishap. While trying to turn around on a bridge, I ended up going over the side, and my Trike exploded.

Soooo, where can I find a new Trike?

I have done a few delivery runs in the central area, and managed to get 3 of the preppers on the network. I did a mission where I had to sneak in to MULE territory and recover some cargo. I wasn't too sneaky, and ended up just knocking them all out. Thanks to Souls games, my parry skills are top notch, so MULEs aren't much threat.

I strolled around the camp, and loaded up one of the trucks with goodies, and started driving back. Unfortunately, I ran out of juice pretty quickly, and I wasn't anywhere near a generator. Cue me, sitting and waiting for the battery to charge a bit, drive 50m, have the truck die, and repeat. I eventually made it to a paved road, and was able to cruise back in relative comfort.

As much as I know PC gaming allows for amazing FPS numbers, customization, mods, and other great stuff, I still stick with consoles, just because I want to put in the game and have it work.

I noticed some folks have holograms that wave or dance near structures they build, and I thought that was pretty cool. Then, I noticed one of the Watcher machines from Horizon: Zero Dawn, and I had a brief moment where I got confused as to what game I was playing.

When it comes to dealing with BTs (I don't even know what BT stands for yet, maybe it's in one of the interview logs), my normal tactic is to crouch and try to skirt around and between them while quickly moving through the area. If I get surprised by one up close, or I get backed into a dead end, I'll throw a Hemetic Grenade, and scuttle away. I have progressed to a point where I have a couple more options for dealing with BTs, a bola gun, and an anti-BT gun. Are either of those worth hauling around? I know bola guns are also useful against MULEs, but I've been able to handle them without so far.

I just finished a mission where I had to transport some unusual cargo: A living person. I carried the artist girl to her boyfriend the Junk Dealer for a happy reunion, yaaaay. I first wondered "Why the hell am I carrying this grown rear end adult on my back, instead of her riding on my trike, or walking beside me?" Then I realized that if I didn't carry her, it would have been a lovely escort mission through enemy territory, which is never fun ever. So shlepping her rear end over the hill, much simpler.

Is it possible to unlock the other colour outfits for Sam as I go along?

Well, I thought I had started to wrap my head around what was going on, and then Kojima went and Kojima'd me real good.

I had just arrived at South Knot and I was told to go outside and investigate something. OK, they just gave me guns and grenades, this is obviously a boss battle. I go out, expecting another Great Old One squid things, and instead get whisked off to fight Mads in the trenches of WWI. What the loving gently caress man?
