one of my college profs was a surprisingly attractive 35ish year old woman who was hardcore into 90’s alternative whatever culture and was completely unaware of how hysterical that was like a living snl sketch I think she tried to be a famous artist, failed, and moved to the midwest to teach and have polyamorous sex with students until her wealthy husband found out and dumped her and she had to live on her adjunct income and some of the sparkle went out of her black turtlenecked eyes ok well that is my enya story

Potential BFF posted:Back when Kazaa was a thing I grabbed a trance mix that had a bit that totally sounded like Enya. The fuckin sample eluded me for years until i discovered that it was Chicane - Saltwater. It may as well be Enya and it's not like you can Google some random airy white wine mom singing. It sounds like Enya because the song is sampled from the Irish band Clannad, who is fronted by Enya's sister Moya.

When he was a university administrator he bought himself a really nice computer with the best sound card and speakers that came with a Dell at the time, including a big fuckoff subwoofer. In his office he listened to about 4 different things: one of three Enya albums, the soundtrack to Ghost in the Darkness, baroque choral music, or Mannheim Steamroller if it was between October and January, but mostly Enya. He would crank that poo poo up so you could hear it way down the hall of the department. Ghost in The Darkness soundtrack is actually really amazing.

Julius CSAR posted:Ghost in The Darkness soundtrack is actually really amazing. Is that the one with the man-eating lions of Tsavo? So a geological era ago I read a forum post somewhere (not here) that basically said Massive Attack's Teardrop was the aural equivalent of sitting in a warm bath surrounded by candles, and I promptly went out and picked up a chill out mix cd with that on it and played it in my car all summer This is 15 years before I actually bought the Massive Attack cd, and at least five before House used it for an OP theme But that's not the song I want to tell you about. The song I want to tell you about is the only other track on the chill out mix CD worth remembering. That track is CYLONS IN LOVE. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z6JiExSlsiY OK, I just remembered that Ladies And Gentlemen We Are Floating In Space was on there too, but I'm not going to bother to link you to that one

Hometown Slime Queen posted:Loreena McKennitt is talented as hell and extremely good. I was obsessed with Loreena McKennitt as a toddler and then again in high school cause I liked rare/period musical instruments and her music incorporates tons of those. Nyckelharpa, hurdy-gurdy, bouzouki, kanun, esraj. Even used the loving lyre in some of her songs, I mean she plays the harp already so it's already overkill. She's totally not why I ended up getting a harp. Also looking for new age music on the kazaa or bearshares would bring up tons of ENYA - ENIGMA: AMADEUS and like, that song isn't from either Enigma or Enya but it DID have a poo poo ton of cgi dolphins in the music video.
