I am quite pleasantly surprised. The show seems to have found a new wellspring of energy between seasons. We've gotten away from monotonous dread and things being terribly wrong. It's like spring, there's hope in the air. Emily's escape and reunion is wonderful, I hope she gets her poo poo back together eventually. Her wife did a fine job of keeping her present and real for their son. And "I was wrong, it's not your funeral after all." just loving killed me. We had to pause and wait for me to stop laughing. Commander Lawrence is crazier than his wife is pretending to be, you never know which way he'll bounce next. Aunt June. That's crazy talk. Also not completely implausible with Serena pulling strings.

Lum_ posted:So, we're just going with June as a complete psychopath now? Cool, cool. Yeah, we are. She's finally succumbed to the pressure and will spend the next bit out of her mind. Worse. When it looks like she's buying into her own plot armor, that's her embracing pure faith. She's turning into what she hates, but it might just get her to Canada with Hannah.

The resistance's best move is to find Hannah and get her to Canada so June will go the gently caress away. Ideally straight into lots and lots of therapy.

I'm totally not down with June surviving, I think this would have been dramatically stronger if she actually did sacrifice herself and they picked up with a new main character. However. This season was rough in spots but they nailed the ending (plus or minus June surviving). And based on how well they wrapped up - tell me you weren't crying during the whole hangar scene - I"m going to trust them to take June into season four and really gently caress Gilead's poo poo up. This whole episode was great. It was shot really well. June with the 10 year old girl. June Osborne putting Joseph in his place. The Martha freaking out. Putting together food, water, and blankets for fifty kids montage (I thought they were making Molotovs at one point). They paid back, and inf act explained, what looked to be a weak season with this episode. I'm looking forward to S04 with a lot more optimism than I was S03.

DropsySufferer posted:I want June lose touch completely go full psychopath and take Lydia’s place as aunt or grand aunt whatever. Now that would be a great ending. She's definitely losing it, her arc over the cliff and down into madness is readily apparent this season. So next year we get psycho-June taking over the resistance. Expect things to get messy.

Yeah, that looks right for where they left off.

I'm just through the first one. I like the slow pace for 95% of the episode. It had a moody, dreamy, almost supernatural feel to it, obviously reflecting June's fevered state. By the ending though, that promises bloodshed and tears in Gilead. I think that was one episode to catch up, get back into it, take a deep breath and... Yeah, it's obviously gonna be messy from here on.
