According to this we at least see Baldur's Gate the city in the trailer. But yeah, I'm kind of hoping the Bhaalspawn returns, even if you have to kill them to have them be reborn again.

CottonWolf posted:I can't see this happening. It removes any element of character creation. They will 100% get infected at some point, but I'm guessing you'll remove the larvae, but it'll probably leave you with some illithid powers. Your larva screws up big time in ceremorphosis and creates their prophesied Adversary - an Illithid that completely takes on the host's memories and personality and will bring ruin upon the mind flayers. Either your larvae doesn't really eat your brain completely and sort of becomes it or through some sort of psychic/divine bullshit is absorbed by your brain and you become sort of Illithid. You gain a host of psyionic abilities no matter what your race or class is and through choices can become more squidlike or not - with the ultimate choice possibly allowing you to maybe devour an Elder Brain and become them or merely manipulate the species through them. But its most likely gonna utilize that Adversary bit. EDIT:To add extra hilarity onto this, the tadpole they gave you specifically was an Ulitharid. Basically a stronger, more arrogant Illithid that is second only to an Elder Brain in position in the regular mind flayer society so when you get strong enough to show that ability, lower Illithids have to technically be courteous and obedient towards you if you either won them during a fight or even if they're there under orders to kill you as a particularly embarrassing deviant. Only like .001% of Illithid larvae that get the chance to eat a brain and become a squid have a chance to show themselves as Ulitharid upon successful morphosis and yours creates the goddamn Adversary. Knowing the publisher we will probably get see, party with or fight other types of squids like Alhoon (squids that also mastered magic, became individualistic and turned into Squid Litches), Vampire Illithids who need to eat brains and drink blood, or a Brainstealer Dragon. Because yeah, psychic goddamn duel with a mind eating psychic dragon. Crabtree fucked around with this message at 09:32 on Jun 17, 2019 |

The throne was claimed but the resulting cataclysm and war between the new gods of murder, between the Bhaalspawn and then the current true heir being besieged by Cyric, has devastated our plane to the point where the mind flayers saw an opportune time to invade and devour. Whether or not that Bhaalspawn is still currently alive or is murdered to release all of Bhaal's essence and allow him to reincarnate is up in the air and not entirely important right now in BG3 due to the mind eaters loving our poo poo.

If I was in charge of anything involving this game that's how I'd do it, let the games have their own quasi continuity and not rely on the boring 5e "lore" exactly about Abdel Adrian and how he failed to kill one Bhaalspawn and they came back to die on each other's blade more or less (at least one of them won their duel but transformed into a horrible creature that massacred Baldur's Gate and had to be put down by some adventures), causing Bhaal's Reemergence and the subsequent divine skull gently caress gang-bang of Cyric.

Apparently in THE CANON, Adrian is a neutral old man at that point who has ups and downs in resisting the urges to do "bad things" including cheating on Jaethal, is incapable of not enjoying violence in any sort of situation and seemingly is drawn into issues that make him be heroic against his will. So I guess fighting against Bhaal blood went to his head and he just failed to roll initiate to not kill them and become a loving Bhaal monster.

Its somewhere around a month we've even got confirmed information that BG3 exists, its a safe bet that 2019 is off the table for release without bringing up some serious worries about the quality of the game. As for Disco Elysum/No Truce with the Furies - well, its been in the background since 2017 and there isn't that much info on a release date, much less anything in their silence until next pax demo most likely.

I mean, if you're dealing with mind flayers, you're typically dealing with Wild Space so why not let us visit other planes/Mind Flayer bases and keeps through magic space travel? Your ship gets upgraded not only with new abilities and powers but outright length and width to become some giant goddamn fantasy monstrosity - mostly because in Wild Space, the bigger your object, the more air is trapped along with you to travel.

Wow, there's a good drow goddess? Why doesn't any game use the 9 foot tall giant avatar of Eilistraee. I wanna hang out with a drow dancing goddess.

Which makes her prime real estate to use, both jokingly as a good god trying to save the drow of all things as well as someone cool that's trying her damnedest for life to get along.

Its gonna be weird that your mind flayer invasion where evil Cthulhu squids pop heads like grapes to eat their brains get pissy at each other when you have the occasional psychic backdoor to their conversations or meetings.
