I'm actually looking for this as well, but preferably with less scares and graphic violence. Tension, twists, and thrills are great, but abject terror and viscera are not a fun vibe for me on edibles.

Films like Moon, Primer, Under The Skin, Funny Games, and Coherence all hit this for me and I'd love to watch more like these.

Upstream Color is by the same director as Primer, and definitely fits this request. Arrival, possibly. The Fountain, by Aronofsky. The Vanishing. Looper. Zardoz. Memento. Sound of my Voice. The Others. The Prestige. Lost Highway. Triangle. Frailty. The Conspiracy. Bug (2006).

joke option: Soylent Green

I’m looking for a movie that’s focused on social class and class conflict, preferably from the UK or Western Europe and relatively modern. The more challenging the better.

Any suggestions?

I watched Hereditary and Midsommar in the past couple months, and like them both. Any recent-ish horror/suspense movies that feel the same? I also like VVitch, Green Room, and Mandy. Btw that Cronenberg son-movie doesn't look good to me, not sure about that.

For the folk horror feel, give November a try. Beautiful film based on a lot of Estonian folklore.

For the families-are-horror feel, The Lodge and Relic are my favourites since Hereditary

Antichrist is set in a cabin in the woods and is both arty and trashy, but I'd definitely read some reviews first. There's also the Friday the 13th movies, especially IV

Seconding both of these
