I really recommend going in order through Revolutions, things tend to lead into each other. Like, the French revolution specifcally plays into the next...five(?) pretty heavily

at least don't skip Haiti, because it rules hard. there's a point towards the end of it where Mike starts editorializing about how the other revolutions cloaked themselves in flowery, liberal rhetoric about freedom and equality meanwhile the Haitians are goddamned slaves throwing off their shackles. actual liberation, none of this "boohoo my taxes" bullshit

thanks for the heads up. I'm definitely not gonna skip haiti. I've been on a Caribbean history kick the last year or so and i love Haiti's revolution as much as I hate how badly they were hamstrung by reparations after the fact.

im hoping to get the french portion before ihave to go to Paris for work next week and then do lsd in the catacombs

I like the guys, I wouldn't keep resubbing if I didn't, but they're absolutely contrarians and making a whole episode about how they're not only cemented that fact further. Frankly it effects the quality of their critique and it's keeping their show from reaching it's true potential.

and yet literally nothing they said in that episode about LPET is wrong

dont be so harsh on the u.s. it's not like the country invaded Haiti and absconded with all of their gold reserves or something lmao and then occupied the place for a couple decades

oh wait they definitely did that lmao the monroe doctrine can eat a dick and so can invading sovereign countries to protect "business interests"

Those people they're talking about definitely exist but so do people like Jack and Lesley - that is, contrarians. They can be simultaneously correct that people who insist you remain uncritical of pop media suck and wrong in their own reflexive attitude towards it.

Goddamn Struggle Session sucks though. Love firing up an episode for a leftist critique of media only to get an hour of why things they like are cool and good while things they don't are vapid cultural dreck, completely arbitrarily.

Yeah I'm 100% with you on this. I loved what I heard from Leslie on other podcasts, then the first episode I tuned in on had him saying that he hated "Breath of the Wild." It was obvious he was just saying it to hate on something that was popular and didn't have any substantive complaints.

To be fair, that's one of the most heated discussions in the whole pod, with the other hosts audibly incredulous at what he's saying.

The entire Rod Dreher saga. You can find these compiled on Youtube, but my favorites are "Have you ever heard of bimboification?" and "Elfquest."

he talks really slow so i usually listen at 1.5 speed, but anyway some recent eps i liked are:
- Bernie and Blck Voters with Malaika Jabali and Wendi Muse (5/30)
- Capitalism and Slavery Parts 1 & 2 (5/15 & 5/22)
- Real Estate Capitalism and Gentrification with Samuel Stein (5/2)
- Against Idiocy with Kafui Attoh (4/5)
- Strike! with Jane McAlevey (3/27)
- End of the Myth with Greg Grandin (3/20)

you should listen to e1 if you don't, a lot of eps are way funnier than anything else out there

this is a good intro, but every episode is a different concept, although all episodes take place in the same "universe" and there are bits of worldbuilding that take place, it's not really necessary to listen from the start or in order though

A couple I haven't seen posted in here that I like a lot, some more consistently than others:

Season of the Bitch (https://www.seasonoftheb.com) - A group of socialist women, a seemingly random subset of which is present for each episode, talking about (mostly) politics and (occasionally) culture. A starter episode recently that I really liked was Elections 2020: Part 1 (no ensuing parts released yet btw).

Delete Your Account (https://deleteyouraccount.libsyn.com/) - Two hosts, one Lebanese-American (now living in Australia) and one Iranian-American (living in the US), talking about politics. I personally enjoy their focus (though not exclusive) on foreign policy, and they also do a good job extracting each guest's "path to radicalization" from them, which I think is cool and often helpful. The downside here is that sometimes it gets very banter-y. At least, for me, that's a downside. Recommended starter episode is one about the Stop & Shop strike (#135, it's pretty recent).

Justice in America (https://www.stitcher.com/podcast/the-appeal/justice-in-america) - From the same producer as both Citations Needed and The Appeal, and hosted by (I believe) two grad students at NYU (?), focuses on anything/everything related to the "criminal justice" system in America. Often informative for me, even though I grew up surrounded by these issues via family stuff. A good recent starter episode that I found informative is Felony Murder.

Also, giving a signal boost to whoever suggested Intercepted. A good mix of foreign policy criticism, media criticism, artist support, and some other topics mixed in.

Will's interview with Alan Moore was a fun little jaunt, and his position that advertising is both magical and the devil really struck a chord with me. also I'd totally spaced that Will had published one of Moore's books which really explained the "how" of the interview

this week's dollop was kind of middling but there is something pure in Gareth taking so long to realize that Dave was talking about Colonel Sanders :allears:
