I heard the black mirror hubbub and watched the first episode and put the series away for almost 2 years before picking it back up and enjoying... I think it was 15 million merits? That pig loving episode is so awful

The pig loving episode was good though. I especially liked the scene in the pubs where all the people are watching it in awe.

Baron von der Loon posted:For me, that episode worked because we were in the right mindset. We were only told to watch Black Mirrir with no explanation what it was about(I think even via these forims). So in the first scene when he is told he has to gently caress a pig, we assumed it was some weird British comedy show. I think it's the episode hurt most by the switch to Netflix, who has made their willingness to push boundaries a part of their advertising, and "Black Mirror" becoming so well known. When it originally aired in 2013, the reactions of the characters in the episode did a good job of mirroring the uninitiated viewers. At first, there was shock and laughter at the premise, followed by escalating disbelief that a show about pig loving was actually broadcasting live on television, followed by horror and revulsion when the episode actually went through with the deed. I remember introducing people to the show when it first came to Netflix and that dawning realization being lost, either because people already knew was "the pig loving episode" or because people wanted to pause while watching to react. E: Oh Jesus, the episode actually aired in 2011. QuoProQuid fucked around with this message at 00:40 on Jun 18, 2019 |

the striking vipers ep was super unrealistic now that i think about it, they would have both played roxi and just traded off on which has the giant dick version

What if Giant Dick Roxxi is just a costume, purchaseable for only 100 Viperbux? That changes everything.

That pig loving episode is so awful yeah after episode one i still think i'm gonna pass on the 'degrading acts or SLAVERY this time' episode. because that's the description. are there any episodes that are interesting takes on our relationship with technology and whatever, or is it just techno misery porn? because if it's the latter no thanks.

its not all techno misery, but it definitely leans that way. Nosedive is probably the quintessential episode of the series. Charlie Brooker seems to have solo writing credit for a lot of these episodes which tons of them are like really tonally different. not super familiar with him before this show. numberoneposter fucked around with this message at 10:31 on Jun 18, 2019 |
