whats the most optimal way to share keyboard/mouse between two computers these days. is it still synergy? some kind of bespoke kvm switch setup?

Then I stopped using it anyway because the experience wasn't great. The optimal way to use two computers depend on what you are going to use them for. If it's gaming, a KVM is probably better because mouse aim often glitches through synergy, if it's just multiple operating systems for productivity you will probably have better luck with one computer and a bunch of virtual machines. I think the only people who still need multiple physical computers are weird nerds who multibox mmorpgs and even weirder nerds that have a bunch of unix workstations that are difficult to virtualize

I use a usb switcher and swap inputs on my monitor, it’s two button presses but actual kvms are super expensive. I use this for the USB portion now because I have 3 computers: IOGEAR 3.0/4 Port Peripheral Sharing Switch (GUS434) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00Y3CTDAY/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_d1IdDbGAA4T3F This one worked great but needed an a small hub: Plugable USB 3.0 Sharing Switch for One-Button Swapping of USB Device/Hub Between Two Computers (A/B Switch) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00JX3Q28Y/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_-YIdDbEGX0N7V And for video I just switch that around on my monitor
