Each step seemed to bring with it additional weight as Marco passed the gun deck and went further down into the hold. His men were good, loyal sailors, who had been with him for many years. They had also just been shipwrecked and almost all of them bore the marks of the ordeal. Two of the nine survivors had broken bones. What would they do with this information? What was he expecting them to do? Marco stood before the men, solemnly, and told them of the ship he had seen. A few of the men merely stared at him, while a spark of anger appeared in the eyes of the others. “Which way was it going?” Paco asked, fists clenched as if he would take on the monsters himself. Marco put his hand on the boy’s head. “It was headed southwest. Perhaps toward Columbia, if it does not change direction. I watched it as long as I could, to see their heading as accurately as possible.” “What do we do, then?” asked Paolo, both eyes still blackened from a broken nose suffered in the sinking of the Esmeralda. “Is it revenge you seek, Captain? You have no ship, and barely any crew.” Marco nodded slowly. “It is true. But our cause is just.” He looked up, as if he could see through the decks to the sky above. “The Lord will provide what we need.” AUTHOR'S NOTE: ran out of time to finish the update, decided to post what I had

Yeah, he's got character. I get the feeling Marco's going to engage in some dark poo poo as he loses his way on the path to vengeance. Well he will if I have anything to vote about it.

Apologies for the lack of updates. I've been a bit stressed out, as I'm sure you all have as well. I hope to get something going again soon.

On the shores of Jamaica, in Kingston, Marco found lodging for his men and a doctor to look over the worst of the injuries. Paco remained at his side like a barnacle, which the captain was happy to tolerate. As the island was staunchly Anglican, Sister Mary had a cool welcome, but Captain Dubois arranged a hotel room for her. Marco walked the docks, anxious to find portage back to Saint-Domingue, or to hire on with a company from Jamaica. There was a lot of talk about one of the shipping companies suffering the loss of their founder, a bloody murder that pricked his interest. The French ship was to be in port for several days, unloading and then taking on more cargo. They needed more crew members after some left upon arrival, something that Dubois had anticipated and floated to Marco during the journey to Kingston. Sister Mary also needed an escort, to Cartagena if possible. She had requested that Marco do what he could to find her a berth on a ship, and he had agreed. Pick what you wish to do first: A. Investigate the rumor of the murdered man B. Ask around the docks to see if anyone needed a captain and crewmembers C. Ask Dubois about hiring on Marco’s surviving crew, at least until they are able to return to Saint-Domingue. D. Try to find passage to Cartagena for Sister Mary E. Something else: write in It's a starting point, at least!

A, coz those bastards might have had a hand in it and we could get the family to pony up a boat for our mission of vengance.

Hi thread, sorry for the long silence. The pandemic has done wonders for my creative muses! If anyone is still following the thread, thank you for your patience. In light of Lowtax being a woman-beating piece of poo poo, the forums are in a state of flux. If he hands over the metaphorical keys everything may stay as it is. Or the denizens and OPs of the Game Room might migrate to another location. We just don’t know! If migration happens I have decided to take my threads to wherever Diogenes decides to take Paradise Lost. I figure the largest chunk of users will follow him as well. This CYOA is backed up, regardless. If you are not part of the CYOA discord, now is a good time to join.

I have not given up on writing VAMPIRATES, but this year did a number on my creative juices. Turns out global pandemics, unrelenting climate change, political turmoil, and trying to raise four kids don't mix well with sitting down and being able to imagine things that aren't the end of the world as we know it. In the meantime, to jumpstart my brain, I've started a little CYOA with a clear endpoint in mind from the beginning. Adventures in Winter: a fairy CYOA. Please feel free to jump in. The setting is one I created for a novel I wrote, a book that is coming out this year on December 15th! cover artist Aliana Wong My book -- Fae Child is a portal fantasy (think Alice in Wonderland, or Narnia) where a little girl named Abbie falls through a pond and comes up in the Otherworld, the land of the Fae. As she comes to grips with her situation and tries to find a way home, back with her parents a changeling has taken her place. Abbie's father, Dan, wrestles with his own secrets while he desperately searches for his real daughter. It's a slim YA/MG fantasy novel, and even if you're not into that sort of thing (but you're here, so I assume you are) you probably know a tween who is, or who could be. It will be a great Christmas present! Links to preorder: Amazon paperback, Amazon ebook, Book Depository (for free international shipping), Powell's, or search it on the website of the local bookstore of your choice. It is distributed through Ingram. I am giving away an ebook bundle and a Kindle Paperwhite, among other things, to one lucky pre-orderer. Just screenshot your preorder and submit.

“Oh, it was a right mess it was. Some sort of animal attack they say,” slurred Frank Bellweather, a dockworker well into his cups in the middle of the day. Marco Fernandez leaned back as Bellweather sloshed his tankard of cheap ale, haphazardly taking another drink. “Are animal attacks common here? In Kingston?” “Oh, aye. Outside of th’ city. But if you ask me it were the Maroons who done it. Some sort o’ dark arts, bewitching a creature to kill a citizen in th’ middle of hi’ own home.” Bellwether stared into his drink. “Our Tommy talked to his cousin’s husband, who’s friends wi’ a porter who’s worked for the Mercier’s before. Said his throat was ripped open.” The drunkard paused, brain processing sluggishly. “Mercier’s throat, that is. Not th’ porter’s.” “Mercier is a merchant?” Marco tried to pull Bellweather back on track. He was certain that the unfortunate Jacques Mercier’s death had to be related to the monsters he’d seen leaving the bay. And yet, there was no proof. To insinuate such a thing would likely get him locked up as a lunatic. “A merchant. Aye, he was. His son handled most o’ the work. Seen him a lot around the Mercier ships when they’re comin’ and goin’.” Bellwether seemed to be spent and stared blankly into his ale for a long moment, then picked up his tankard to drain it. Marco knew he should be looking for passage to Cartagena for Sister Mary, or to Saint-Domingue for his men, but there was something about this merchant’s death that demanded he find out more. this is a vote A. Go find the Mercier offices, or home, to further investigate. (+obsession) B. Find berths or jobs for your men on ships heading back to Saint-Domingue (+responsible) C. Find a ship heading to Cartagena for the nun. (+religious) D. Join Bellweather and order some ale. You deserve it after all you’ve been through. (+overwhelmed) E. Something else: Write in There is a wiki, I think it is up to date:
