B They'd kill us anyway. We are godly men and needn't fear the afterlife. Fight the demons and have faith.
G Being captured by pirates is worse than death. Use the calmness. Pretend to be demure and lead the man into an ambush.

Marco is a devout papist. By resisting the temptations of demons he can still hope for a miracle and trust that an eternal reward awaits him for his piety.

If he thought they were just pirates then things would be different. But they've exhibited supernatural abilities so obviously they are demons.

If they decide he has spunk they can do worse things to him than merely killing him.

I'm trying to weigh what we know so far of the pirate-vampire's motivations. Is there any reason not to kill everyone they leave behind on the ship instead of taking as cattle/cannon-fodder? Aside from it being uncouth. I'm not sure manners are sufficient reason to let any reports of demons get out.

I don't believe these vampirates have expressed any fear or concern towards the church. They don't seem to view the inquisition or witnesses as threats.

So we may as well bring along any hostages that seem entertaining just to forestall boredom at sea. We can figure out what we're doing with them later. None are useless. Given the mind control on display we can expect our interrogation attempts to be very successful. Afterwards we can always just eat them.

The truth of our survival is fine. We were lucky. The first pirate we encountered was an officer who thought himself to be a gentleman and was unable to ignore our plea for safe passage. They protected us rather than besmirch their honor, even as their allies slaughtered the rest of the crew.

I'd expect gentleman pirates aren't unheard of given how many future pirate officers likely started out as high-born naval officers before turning to privateering.

Surely the fishermen will spare what they can after viewing the miracle of our rescue. And if not it is all part of God's plan anyway.
