]not to be to nitpicky but Catholics are baptised "priest, prophet and King" and told that if no other option is available a lay person may assume the role as priest until such time a priest is available. Probably a hold over when Christianity was just starting and having your local priest "disappear" wasn't uncommon. 8 years of Catholic school is my reference.

I mean his reaction will be to tell the Capt about the ship and ask to pursue to bring it to Justice and the Capt will say that's a matter for the Spanish navy and won't risk the lives of his crew. So our Capt will have to go to Port and ask around about that ship and learn it's reputation
