Then there's the one where the pov character has a brief panic and internal monologue infodump because a customer may be a spy trying to steal their thin crust r&d secrets.

So what we need is "Honor Harrington: David Weber's Classic Tale of Titanic Battles and Cunning Intrigue (The 'Good Parts' Version)"? I can just see the footnotes now:

"At this point I removed forty-three pages discussing missiles. Yes, forty-three. And yes, missiles. How many were fired, and by whom (3 pages). The types of heads with which they were fitted (2 pages) and a history of their technical development (5 pages). How many were destroyed, broken down by countermeasure and enemy squadron (2 pages). How many were not destroyed but sailed off harmlessly into space (1 page). How many struck their targets and what those targets were, with detailed description of the devastation wrought to life and naval property (12 pages). Then the enemy returned fire and he started _all over again_. Trust me, you don't want to read that."

My new year's resolution was to only read good stuff, like incredibly gay moomin/snufkin fanfic, but I accidentally read one of the honor harrington posts and yeah I'm gonna need plenty of missiles in 2020. My brain is broken.

Terra Nova: Strike Force Centauri was rad. MFDs! Drone, with camera! Squadmate cam! Put your front view on a tiny screen and replace the main display with a giant map for planning! I don't remember much of the plot, though.

Last year I read all of the main series Harrington books up to War of Honor, where I got burnt out again. They're not the worst things I've read but I agree the writing can be lacking and often repetitive.

While I will finish the series one day, does anyone have any recommendations for other good space navy/battle type series?
Go read The Last Angel and the sequel. Ok they're not published, but the second book's done and third book in the trilogy hasn't started yet so it's a good time.

All this talk of missiles in terms of mass and length is confusing to me. A missile weighs what and is 15m long? But how big is it really? And the pods? Please present all arguments in displacement tons from now on, where 1 dT is the volume of 1 metric ton of liquid hydrogen, approximately two 1.5m grid squares, 3m in height. Thank you.

Singularity Sky by Charles Stross, link includes him complaining about David Weber, too: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Singularity_Sky#History
In 2010 David Betz, a senior lecturer in war studies at King's College, London, cited Singularity Sky as a model for a proposal to undermine the Taliban's hold over Afghanistan, and strengthen the country's legitimate government, by giving every resident of the country a free mobile phone. He said it would "create a real communications space and 'let ideas find their own levels'". In Stross's novel, he noted, "the contact of the lesser developed culture with the advanced one is utterly devastating for the status quo of the former. The parallels are pretty obvious."

They're POD and the quality of the layout is often not the best, but the History of Wargaming project does reprints of some old naval wargames.

You can get them on Amazon, usually on kindle as well.

Pretty sure "make replacements" in that context means the act of replacing the damaged parts, not fabricating new ones.
