Thanks, I think I would be handling it better if it were my own fault being a dumbass falling on my head or something, but being hit by a drunk driver makes it harder to deal with I think. You hear about it happening to other people but never consider it happening to you, and when it does it's kinda hard to accept it.

Still too early to tell, my physical therapist said my pain could still be muscle and tendon related, and that some people with herniations are asymptomatic with no pain at all. So now it's just a wait and see, I'm hoping the pain I'm having now isn't because of the discs being hosed up and just muscle aches but I'll find out in time i guess.

Just made all of the starches. Chicken piccata served over buttered pasta, 5 cheese garlic bread, scalloped potatoes. And a bit of spinach on the side.

....what? All I had to eat all night was a salad. Don't judge me. :btroll: I allow myself one or two meals like this a month, the rest at least try to be somewhat healthy - and I'm going hiking this afternoon to help burn some of this off.

:cripes: Tremek, I'm so sorry about your good doggo.

Royal, that sucks, well, royally. Applebees, uh, same. I can't really come up with words for all of that.

Depending how far along it is, and your weight/activity, it can be controlled with diet and exercise. Sometimes with the addition of meds. It's not the death knell that it used to be so long as you pay attention to what you eat (and monitor your sugar).

Source: I was diagnosed 7 or 8 years ago. My health today is the best it's been in 15+ years. My blood pressure is the lowest it's been in ages, my A1c was 5.5 (essentially non-diabetic, but that's with meds) a few weeks ago, my cholesterol (aside from triglycerides, but they're not that far above normal) is good, and I'm actually semi active (mostly at work, but I've been hiking a bit on days off). I've been pulled off one of two diabetes medications, and my main blood pressure medication has been dropped to the lowest dose (my dr wants to keep me on it because it helps protect the kidneys).

5 years ago, my (former, he's 200 miles away now) doctor told me I was in stage 3 kidney failure, and my liver wasn't too far behind. Really lit a fire under my rear end to change my habits. I had dropped significant weight, and my A1c was decent (not great, but decent), but my cholesterol was still through the roof. My current doctor saw the bloodwork from then and can't believe it was mine.

My dad's garage went up about 7:30AM and took a bunch of my poo poo with it. Family + dogs are all fine, and the FD showed up in time to keep it from spreading to my childhood home and taking everything with it (house is even closer than the cars were, but the garage door was open and oriented directly at them so it was like a huge blowtorch). Kept it from spreading to the neighbor's homes too, thank god - there's trees and bushes everywhere and some very close structures. They think it was a short in either the minifridge or adjacent powerstrip. Some good samaritan construction guys down the street ran up and helped my dad hose down the closest part of the house with garden hoses until FD arrived.

RIP my beloved E46 and Aprilia Tuono. RIP my folk's 41 Woodie they just dumped a bunch of money into getting it fixed up. Looks like the 69 Bronco was shielded from the heat by the Woodie and will be OK after a new paint job. RIP my entire tool collection and hard-to-find spare parts for my Jeep :(

poo poo feels ultra surreal. Four different vulture-rear end scummy insurance/contractor ambulance chaser types were already lined up with business cards out by the time the fire trucks left; it's taken all of my self control to not shoo them away with a goddamn Beretta.

Oof. Dang, that sucks Nonesuch. This is the kind of news I hope I never get.

I'm at the point with my auto insurance where I may need to/choose to invoke the appraisal clause in my policy for the Mercedes, as the CCC report they're coming back with is not reflecting the value I think it ought to, big surprise there right?

The clause in my policy reads:

Ameriprise Legalese posted:

Appraisal

1. If we and you do not agree on the amount of loss, either may demand an appraisal of the loss. The request for appraisal must be done within 60 days from the date of dispute. Each party will select a competent and impartial appraiser. The two appraisers will select an umpire. The appraisers will state separately the actual cash value and the amount of loss. If they fail to agree, they will submit

their differences to the umpire. A decision agreed to by any two will be binding. Each party will:

a. Pay its chosen appraiser; and

b. Bear the expenses of the appraisal and umpire equally.

2. We do not waive any of our rights under this policy by agreeing to an appraisal.

Anyone ever been down this road? I haven't, nor do I know whether this would generate a more favorable outcome for me or not.

Costco, though I don't know if I've ever seen a Miata-sized AGM battery on the racks there. The only way the Costco warranty experience could be better would be if they drove the battery to you to replace it.

Just got a new battery for the Crown Vic from Wal-Mart. got the Ever-Start Maxx 850 CCA for $94. They were the only one's handy that had a group 65 battery for less than $100 - and that was the most expensive option. If I'd wanted to be super-cheap, they had a 1-year 650 CCA battery for $50. I don't have a Costco membership, nor one located closer than about 30 minutes drive.

I despise Wal-Mart, but I have to admit that they were the only place I found within a ~10 mile radius that had two big rear end H8 batteries in stock and ready to go for my 840Ci when the batteries went tits up on my way to work a few years back. The price was better than all of the other stores around (who only had one in stock, if any at all) also.

I swear there's someone on Wal-Mart's purchasing team who maintains a stupid old BMW, because they are consistently the only place I can find the 5qt jugs of Mobil 1 15W-50 oil also. Even the dedicated auto parts stores around here don't have it, not even in the 1 quart bottles.
