1. Do not recommend/plug your thread or one that you are guesting in unprompted. This is probatable, bear in mind - this is not the self-promotion thread. However, if someone puts in a recommendation request for an LP and you sincerely believe that an LP you've done or are working on would fit the bill for it, you are free to suggest it. Abuse of this loophole will result in a probation, however.
   
   
2. When recommending a thread, use some reasoning or explanation. Don't say "the hearthstone LP is pretty good". Instead, go into detail. Is it funny? Is it informative? Are they doing some kind of avant-garde "This isn't even really an LP anymore" production? What are they doing that makes it special? Just put in a couple sentences to sell people on why they should give it a look.
   
   
3. If someone makes a recommendation you disagree with, don't poo poo on it just for the sake of doing so. If you have a good reason to object (ie: video quality, outdated humor, better alternatives), those are welcome. Also, feel free to comment if you agree with the suggestion and have more to add as to why people should watch it.
   
   
4. There's nothing wrong with suggesting off-site LPs! There are plenty of high-quality LPs on Youtube if you're willing to dive deep enough, including several who used to post here and don't anymore (see: Chip Cheezum, supergreatfriend, etc). Youtube is a cess pit that buries even the best content at the whims of ~ T H E A L G O R I T H M ~ so it never hurts to give them a little time in the spotlight.
   
   
5. LPs are a lot of hard work, and it doesn't take much for one to fizzle out. We all have that LP we loved that was taken too soon, so please try not to overhype threads that have barely gotten off the ground. Your new favorite LPer might have made a mean Video 2, but that doesn't mean he's going to make it to the finale in Video 87. Give the thread a chance to show it'll go the distance before telling the world about it.
   
   
6. We're here to celebrate the LPs we love, not discuss your thoughts on video hosting or why LPer X is bad and you don't like their stuff. Take that kind of stuff to The Sandcastle. That said, this thread *is* the place for general posts along the lines of "I liked [LP X]. Are there any others similar to it?"
   
   
7. Please check the Master List and LPArchive.org if you're curious of whether something's been LP'd already. Also, if you're browsing the archive, there are numerous older LPs which you'll come across. Several video hosts have died over the years, but many of these LPs have been uploaded to Archive.org! • Deadly Premonition by supergreatfriend - A few years dated now, but a must see for anyone who even remotely enjoys video let's play. DP is the kind of game that's significantly more fun to watch than it is to play. It has a pretty interesting plot, setting, and characters, but the game play is pretty sub par. SGF has a passion for this game and has probably played it more than anyone on this planet should or will. He shows it off in such a way that it can present itself clearly, and in an even cinematic way. This might be a little hyperbolic, but there's not many LPs as special as this one that convey the essence of the game so well through the whole thing. I'm envious of you if you haven't discovered this gem. (Recommended by AssailantLF)
  
• Jurassic Park: Trespasser by Research Indicates - The first video lp to ever reach the goldmine; Research Indicates explores Jurrasic Park as a set of animated breasts while grappling with Dinosaurs and solving terrible physics puzzles. (Recommended by Ursus Veritas)
  
• ILLBLEED by supergreatfriend - A fascinating look at a game that doesn't make any more sense the fourth time you've watched it. It's a weird blend of survival horror, comedy, and whatever else was on the creators' minds that day, I guess. Come for the baseball, stay for a Toy Story knockoff, and please tell me who KILLERMAN is. (Recommended by LordHippoman)
  
• Demon's Souls by Squint - Squint is incredibly thorough showing off a ton of what the game has to offer. He points out a lot of plot elements that may otherwise be missed. To complement his playthrough, there are a couple others: one for a new game+ playthrough, and the punchyfist run. (Recommended by unpronounceable)
  
• Blackstone Chronicles by Selenic Martian - If you're down for some atmospheric horror that doesn't use any cheap tricks to get scares, this is a home run. Our protagonist finds himself in an old asylum that is in the process of being turned into a museum in search of his abducted son, and he has many run-ins with the wonderful world of old psychiatric treatment. And it is downright horrifying, thanks in part to some excellent voice acting. Come on in to Blackstone Asylum and let the wonderful world of medicinal history wash over you. It's a lot more thrilling than it might sound. (Recommended by TheMcD)
  
• Devil May Cry 3 by AccountingNightmare - Devil May Cry 3 is a hard game. AccountingNightmare provides a skilled playthrough of both of its highest difficulties while providing informative commentary and she does it all live. (Recommended by Ursus Veritas)
  
• Final Fantasy IV: Free Enterprise by Professor Duck and Dewgy - 4 different runs, showing off 4 different ways you can use the Randomizer. It's entertaining to watch, and they also shared their flags for each run, in case you want to play along. (Recommended by Kheldarn)
  
• Bloodborne by Genocyber - Geno's one of the chillest, most informative LPers I've had the pleasure of watching, and they're one of the few From Software fans that don't do the whole "angry scream cam" thing. Geno's got a pretty chill vibe while showing essentially everything including the DLC. (Recommended by FluxFaun and IGgy IGsen)
  
• Everybody's Gone to the Rapture by Fedule - There have been a lot of LPs regarding modded games. This is an LP that should be a mod for the game. Fedule's commentary borders on developer-level discussion of the game's design and plot. Fedule has also added in an overlay identifying the speaking characters & their connections to each other, which is super useful considering that there are no visual cues to differentiate people. (Recommended by oldskool)
  
• Hopkins FBI by davidspackage - Special Agent Hopkins is faced with a reality that most of us would not be able to reckon with. Yet instead of succumbing to insanity or existential dread, he celebrates the human condition with cheerful optimism. Hopkins doesn't question his purpose in an uncaring and hostile universe because he has already reaffirmed his purpose; to make you laugh. (Recommended by Kuvo)
  
• Dark Souls by Kay - Starts off really slow with basically no editing and she's initially as bad as any newcomer to the Souls series, so you might want to skip the first few episodes. Kay has a very methodical play style, is very observant of her surroundings, and even takes notes to keep track of all the lore and sprawling paths in the game. It's fantastic and entertaining to see her grow as a player and tackle all of the various challenges this game has throughout. It feels like a very complete LP and almost like how the developers intended the game to be played, as she's even able to piece together all of the lore on her own, unlike most first timers. • Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance by Chip Cheezum & General Ironicus - Hands-down the most informative LP you're likely to find for this game. Chip goes through the mechanics of how to properly play, how to do well, and also shows off a perfect-ranked playthrough on a relatively hard difficulty. If you like action, amazing music, more action, and memes born of song lyrics, this is an absolute must-see. (Recommended by Geop)
  
• Majora's Mask Three-Day Challenge by Frothypogs - Frothypogs tackles one of the most difficult challenges in Majora's Mask, completing the entire game in just a single 3-Day cycle. You won't believe just how much of the game can actually be done in 72 mere hours, as he gets (almost) every mask and most of the Bomber's Notebok along the way. Check it out for Dodongo-bombing, bean-munching, pipe-playing, milk-guzzling action. (Recommended by florida lan)
  
• Dead to Rights by Slowbeef & Diabetus - Join 'Beef and 'Betus as super cop Jack Slate is framed for murder, meets his bff Wireboy, unravels the mysterious past of Longshoreman X and fights a middle eastern Prince who breathes fire. Maybe the dumbest game ever made ridiculed in that Retsupurae fashion we all love. (Recommended by Ursus Veritas)
  
• Bayonetta by Yoshesque & Hans - In the same line as Revengeance and DMC, this is an incredibly skilled 100% playthrough of Bayonetta. This is a multiple year labor of love by Yoshesque and a must-see as far as skilled LPs go. (Recommended by Geop)
  
• Jimmy and the Pulsating Mass by GrandmaParty - Jimmy was my favorite game of 2018, it's an earnest retro RPG with aesthetic/mechanical influences from a lot of things but mainly Earthbound and FF5. It takes place entirely in the dreams of the eight year old titular character who uses the power of empathy to feel like his enemies and change his job class and ability set in battle. You explore Jimmy's mind, go on adventures with his family, and confront the scary things in his brain. GP does a great job condensing the RPG experience for people who don't want to see every single fight, and manages to skirt the edge between formal LP of the game while being real informal and casual with his guests. The thread is also very nice and currently putting out some nice fanart for the sake of charity. (Recommended by thevoiceofdog)
  
• Mercenaries 2 by helloitsdan & lithuanian dad - A wonderfully amazing co-op romp through South America! Probably one of the first things that someone new to the subforum should watch! (Recommended by Geop)
  
• Saints Row 2 by Kaubocks & Panzer Skank - Between Idol Ninja's mods and the general antics Kaubocks & Panzer get in to, calling this LP "funny" is an understatement. Definitely one of the best things I've seen around here. (Recommended by Geop)
  
• Resident Evil 5 by RChimp Cola & Sinatrapod - I cannot recommend this highly enough, easily the funniest LP on the archive. I rewatch it every so often to remind myself of the Legend of Spaghetti. (Recommended by Kaboom Dragoon)
  
• Left 4 Dead by Baldurk / cKnoor / ethansteele / Blister - Four besties do their best to survive the zombie apocalypse in classic co-op fashion (which is to say loving each other over). Features playthroughs of the main campaign, mod campaigns, and multiplayer videos. (Recommended by Ursus Veritas)
  
• Legend of Zelda: Four Swords Adventures by pokecapn / kungfujesus / medibot / My Name Is Kaz - Watch the best Zelda game you never played with the most absurd recording setup in subforum history, to quote the OP: "4 GameCubes, 4 GBA Players, 4 GCN-GBA cables, a Wii to plug them all into, 4 SD capture cards, 1 HD-PVR, and 2 computers." • Daikatana by Proteus4994 & Suspicious - The most over-hyped game of the decade gets more than it deserves when Proteus and Suspicious make John Romero their bitch. (Recommended by Bobbin Threadbare)
  
• Silent Hill by VoidBurger - Much like Kamoc, VoidBurger goes through the game showing it off in good detail, as well as explaining little easter eggs/references wherever they lie. If you enjoyed the Homecoming LP, this is definitely right up your alley, and vice versa! (Recommended by Geop)
  
• Little Nightmares by JohnOfOrdo3 - For showing that you can use subtitles for much more than just bare narration. (Recommended by Carbon dioxide)
  
• Super Mario World: Vanilla Level Design Contest 9 by FPzero and Tyty210 - Two romhackers with a long history with SMW reviewing romhacker levels and sounding off about what works and what doesn't in level design. A very interesting watch, IMO, but it's a long one; there were a lot of levels in that contest for them to play through. (Recommended by Commander Keene)
  
• The Last Express by Olive Branch - It's a murder-mystery-on-a-train sort of game and there are multiple paths and endings, most of them bad, and he goes out of his way to show off every one of them. He even went the extra mile and got every foreign language translated into English for your benefit, including French and Arabic. The guy really loved the game and the effort he went through to present it really showed. (Recommended by Maple Leaf)
  
• Final Fantasy XII IZJS by BrainWeasel - An incredibly informative subtitled VLP of, in my opinion, an under-rated game with a very unique presentation. (("People with archives should read the original thread where possible" --Brainweasel)) (Recommended by Ilyich)
  
• Cold Fear by Giragast - Something I constantly recommend to people as it's not only a really well done subtitled LP, but has a set of Extreme mode videos and the LPer basically takes the game apart to show you the tricks and methods the developers used to make the game do what it does, which is pretty unique. (Recommended by Lazyfire)
  
• Dead Space by The Man With a Hat - Another subtitled LP of a horror game that works incredibly well and done by someone who clearly loves the game and knows it inside and out. (Recommended by Lazyfire)
  
• The Void by CannibalK9 - The Russian-est game that you'll ever see. You play as a disembodied soul wandering around in a barren dreamlike landscape, and CannibalK9's commentary is relaxing and low key, very appopriate to the slow pace of the game. (Recommended by Fat Samurai)
  
• Endless Ocean: Blue World by Zorak - An LP that is both chill and informative. Most of the learning is about fish and Greek mythology. They did the first Endless Ocean too, but I think this one is better (Recommended by morallyobjected)
  
• Deus Ex by Bobbin Threadbare - Probably the single most informative LP ever made. Not only examines every tiny detail in one of the most mechanically complex games of all time, but follows each game play session with a bonus lecture of the organisations, history and philosophy discussed in the game! (Recommended by Bug Squash)
  
• Kirby's Dream Course by Psymonkey - chill, pleasant commentary while still showing great skill at a unique and interesting game. (Recommended by Civil Twilight)
  
• Sonic 2: Special Edition by docfuture - Most of the time when I find something funny I just laugh inside, if that makes some sense, or chuckle. doc is one of the few people that makes me laugh out loud. I don't think it's the kind of humor I could ever even attempt to replicate, I'm just happy that it exists. (Recommended by Elentor)
  

• The Chzo Mythos by Quovak - The games are point and click adventures, and Quovak shows where they work, where they don't, and breaks down why they do or don't. It's critical, but not overwhelmingly so, and Yahtzee's retrospective commentary really complements Quovak's analysis. (Recommended by unpronounceable)
  
• Pokemon Reborn by Orange Fluffy Sheep - The platonic ideal of edgy, tryhard fangames, Pokemon Reborn is an adaptation of a role-playing Pokemon league into a fangame by someone who hates Pokemon as a series and uses real-life events as "inspiration" for in-game content. It's exactly as much of a trainwreck as that statement would imply (if not moreso), and OFS tears it to pieces, despite having a designer with a disdain for player choice and overtuning every single enemy team. (Recommended by Artix)
  
• Knights of the Old Republic II by Scorchy - ludicrously in-depth, this was one of the best places to get info on the ridiculous amounts of cut content the game had before the restoration patches. Offers some great analysis of the game and the characters, don't be surprised if you learn something new about the game while reading it. (Recommended by Kaboom Dragoon)
  
• Dangan Ronpa by orenronen - An amazing testament to Oren's work and talents. It's also batshit glorious. Who could resist Battle Royale meets Phoenix Wright? (Recommended by Ghostwoods)
  
• OFF by Panzer Skank - OFF is an interesting and perplexing abstract RPG. Panzer Skank lets the game speak for itself very well and it has tons of fun fanart. (Recommended by Obscil)
  
• The Closer by TheMcD - A baseball game(?) that dives into the absurd and never looks back. Join Mike Mussina and Slavoj Zizek as they attempt to help Bobson rediscover his best pitch after blowing Game 6 of the World Series. Highly recommended even if you know nothing about baseball, as TheMcD does a great job providing context and explaining terms and players as they come up in the game. (Recommended by Artix)
  
• Restaurant Empire and Restaurant Empire 2 by Enchanted Hat - Some games are absolutely perfect for the LP medium (aka obscure and/or garbage to play, but hilarious to see), and I'd say these definitely count. The weird plots and the on-point interior decorating choices by the audience are great for some laughs. (Recommended by Nondevor)
  
• Planescape: Torment by ShadowCatboy - An enormous effort, with 150+ updates over the course of five years. (Recommended by cmndstab)
  
• Seiken Densetsu 3 (Trials of Mana) by ddegenha - Covers multiple playthroughs of the game where ddegenha's added characterization makes even the repetitive parts completely worth reading. (Recommended by unpronounceable)
  
• Advance Wars by cosmicPostman - He has excellent storytelling far above & beyond the game's attempt at a narrative. I care more about the alphabetical-orderly-named characters in the LP than I did about anybody in the actual game. (Recommended by oldskool)
  
• Avalon Code by Didja Redo - Its a wonderful go at trying to make something out of a game that's basically a black hole of missed potential. I'd played through it already and the stark contrast between it and the last few updates where Didja shows off the actual game is still amazing to me. (Recommended by The Flying Twybil)
  
• Chrono Trigger by Blind Sally - Everyone knows that Chrono Trigger is great, but you probably didn't know about the CYOA MS Paint port. BSal takes us through a forgotten...uh, "reinterpretation" of the SNES classic as goons attempt to guide CRON and friends to victory. (Recommended by florida lan)
  
• The Terrible Secret of Animal Crossing by Chewbot - Chewbot takes a completely freeform game without any kind of backstory and writes a short novel not unlike a summer slash film (but in a good way). Don't expect any gameplay in here, though. (Recommended by Fat Samurai)
  
• NieR by TheDarkId - He took a game that originally had a poor reception and helped rehabilitate its reputation. It's now regarded as a cult classic and I'm not sure it would be if not for his thread. He presented a lot of obscure information and story bits that aren't in the game and put it all together so a game that seemed incomprehensible at times actually had a story that had some real depth to it. (Recommended by drygear)
  
• Ultima IV-VI (and onward) all by Nakar - Nakar plays Ultima the way it was never intended to be played, with every loophole, cheap trick, and underhanded tactic possible exploited by the sociopathic Steve the Avatar, one of the funniest anti-heroes ever conceived of, and her ever-changing gang of long-suffering tag-along companions. Although U4 and U5 are kind of by-the-numbers, the introduction of portraits in U6 and beyond enable Nakar to inject an enormous amount of personality and humour into the LPs, while still showing off everything worth seeing in some of the best open-world RPGs of all time. Also Martian Dreams is awesome all by itself, as Steve travels back in time to team up with Marie Curie and Sigmund Freud to battle Rasputin on a coal-powered, steampunk Mars! (Recommended by cmndstab)
  
• X-Com: UFO Defence and Apocalypse by GuavaMoment - Well-written, funny as hell, with great thread interaction that manages to avoid coming across as fanfic for the most part. You'll believe a janitor can fly. But not for very long. (Recommended by Kaboom Dragoon)
  
• Final Fantasy VIII by Cool Ghost - This LP is basically a love letter to Final Fantasy VIII. It shows that this game isn't as bad as people remember, and that it has a rich story and deep lore. Sadly, almost all of the is hidden, but Cool Ghost knows exactly where to look to find it. It's very well written and informative. (Recommended by Kheldarn)
  
• Persona 5 by Arist - Filled with witty, thoughtful critiques about a given story element, character arc, etc. Excellent writing that uses both diction and timing to deliver hilarious commentary in between the screenshots. To break up the monotony of the gameplay loop, the LP is occasionally interrupted by the fictitious events in the LPer's life that go in between the screenshots or completely replace repetitive sections of the game. Arist is both funny and thorough. (Recommended by Flair)
