Can anyone recommend any channels that specialise in RPGs that don't feel the need to read out all the text in 'funny' voices? If you like Bioware fare, I've done Inquisition and the Mass Effect Trilogy and am currently LPing Horizon Zero Dawn. I refuse to read text out loud, you've all passed kindergarten and can read it yourselves :v:

Anyone got recommendations for LPs that are informative and analytical to the point that they skew closer to documentaries? Somewhere between dscruffy and Noah Caldwell-Gervais.

It's been years since I read it, but Zoolooman's Civ4 SSLP takes a very documentary approach, with made-up relics, religious lore, diaries, etc. being used to "reconstruct" the history of the world being played in.

It's unfortunately incomplete, but to be honest by the last update, the game's a foregone conclusion, so I have trouble faulting Zoolooman for not wanting to play it through to the end.

You cheated not only the game, but yourself.
But most of all, you cheated BABA

LP rec time because I'm having a good time and I think this might be up someone's alley: youtube LP of CDDA, it's a dude roleplaying as the survivor of a zombie/eldritch things apocalypse, and he alternates the roleplay with lots of how/why he's playing the way he is, so I'm learning how the game works and enjoying the story. Also since dialogue is a rare occurrence so far, while he does read it out in voices for characters, it's not too overdone. I'm on episode 8 out of 48 and it's a really fun experience.

Also I'll turn this around and ask: anyone got any good CDDA / similar style survival LPs? I'm finding I really enjoy the roleplay genre of LP as long as it's not humorous and I'm a giant sucker for apocalypses/unreal world/rimworld "one colonist survival" type series.

Re-requesting Nomad. I played it through to completion in the '90s but don't have my disks anymore, so an LP is the only way I can relive it. The only LP attempt so far was abandoned before getting very far.

Is this still the thread for LP recommendations, or is it just for requests now? Just gonna ask anyway, I guess: does anyone know an LPer with a good reading voice who does (and reads aloud) long, text-heavy games? I recently figured out how to rip audio tracks directly from Youtube to my phone and I'm looking LPs that work well when you basically use them as audio plays.

VVV Duly noted.

Has anyone ever made a competent, ie. savestateless and somewhat skilful Let's Play of any of the Kaizo Mario World games? Mario players online are generally a lot better than they were in 2007, and the Kaizo games deserve much better LPs on here than we have at the moment.

It's not really the same thing, but there have been speedruns of several kaizo hacks at Games Done Quick. For example, Super Dram World 2 and Invictus. They aren't gonna have as detailed of commentary as a good LP would but they do show off most of their respective games.

Polsy
Mar 23, 2007

People* don't really watch Kaizo videos to see someone do well at them, so that's going to be hard to find. If streaming had been bigger in 2007 everyone would have been streaming themselves failing hundreds of times and yelling at the game.

* obviously not everyone, but, you know

I was actually talking to ArclightBorealis about Left Alive while we were recording Shadows of the Damned. He genuinely enjoys it and was toying with the idea of doing an LP of it down the line. He's moving right now though, so no idea if anything will come of it, but maybe in the future.

There was an attempt at Pillars of Eternity, which I can't find now, but it died an early death. With the ever-present love for isometric RPGs I was hoping someone else would pick it up, but alas.

I've beaten the game once so I'm tempted to try it myself, but it seems a bit daunting for someone's first Let's Play.

Crumpets. Glorious Crumpets.
One game that deserves being seen through to completion is "Lost Odyssey" for the Xbox 360. The previous attempt made it reasonably far before it got abandoned, and I still want to see how the story ends.

Lurker, Sims 3 LPer, Bored College Student
This is an incredibly weird request (that probably against the intend of this topic but hopefully isn't a problem, let me know if it is)

But I have a memory of an LPer I watched when I was younger (maybe high school but I can't remember, I seem recall either the 15 or 10 minute being in placed when I watched him), and youtube search and google search have been shockingly unhelpful to find this person. I don't remember his username but i remember bits and pieces about him and I was subscribed to him but either i unsubbed or the account that was subbed doesn't exist anymore

He probably wasn't very good but the fact I couldn't track him down was bugging me.

Here are the detail I remember
1. He's British
2. He would regularly talk about having rather severe OCD, to the point he'd feel uncomfortable and waste arrows if the amount was not divisible by 5.
3. To help pin down the date a little more he would at one point do an impression of the Yu-Gi-Oh Abridged version of Bakura.
4. He did an LP of Pokemon Yellow, Orcana of Time and I'm fairly certain Majora's mask
5. I think in his pokemon Yellow he RPed the Pikachu and gave it a stupid voice. (might be confusing that with someone else)

It's entirely possible he deleted his account a long time ago but I'd like to know for sure.

Late to this particular discussion, but the enjoyment I found with Left Alive was largely focused around the story. It's less for reasons that it's connected to the Front Mission universe or mainline games, 'cause it takes place so many years after those original five, and more that it uses the background elements its built on to make a pretty engaging plot and characters. All of this is in spite of the fact that the game's systems are C-tier PS2-esque as all hell, like so mechanically dense with options that rarely have synergy with each other but it ends up being kind of cool that someone thought to include them anyway. To me, it felt like another Deadly Premonition, where the real strengths lied so far outside the realm of making an actually fun, stable playing game. It only took me a while to finally come around on that game because the difficulty at launch was absolutely busted, and it took a month and a half for the devs to put out a patch with an extra easy difficulty option and other balance tweaks.

That said, having finished moving and being separated from my old desktop, LPing that game is pretty much out of the question for the time being. So good luck to anyone else that wants to go nuts on it.
