I don't think I've ever seen a story where the protagonist explicitly draws attention to their call to adventure.

He has to call attention to it otherwise the page ceases to be a 'doubting myself but ADVENTURE' montage and just comes across as a page depicting Snout as someone who lives in a 'beautiful' but desolate place in an isolated way, who has had enough of writing in his journal for the day and is heading home. Hell without the text this could be the first time we ever saw Snout and it'd probably be a better intro than what we got.

Would it have been so hard to show her body dynamically making the same arc as the ink, giving the brush some mass and her a more interesting pose? She's just standing there with an arm up like she's not hauling a giant hunk of wood around, that's boring.

Talking about the heroic rapist arc reminded me that Mookie intentionally cut off all other aspects to force the narrative.

Remember, the orc matrons check the hymen to ensure heroic rape happened. Remember that detail Mookie forced into the situation so that it had to happen as he was wanted it to.

IIRC there's also a panel where Stonewater tore her clothes up.

Back to Legacy I went hunting and found this note on the Dominic Deegan page in Tvtropes of all places.

quote:

In May 2015, Mookie revealed that a new stretch goal for the Patreon of Star Power would be a sequel comic called The Legacy of Dominic Deegan, set two centuries after the original comic. As of 2018, however, this stretch goal has not been attained, but in July 2019, The Legacy of Dominic Deegan officially began.

So nobody really wanted it but by god he's doing it anyway!

A common novice art tip I've seen for drawing stuff is to draw a (for example) shrimp from memory with no reference, then trace over a bunch of images of one angle, then a bunch of another, and then a bunch of another and so on until you have a massive collection of a shrimp from many angles. Then you have to draw a shrimp from memory in a brand new pose now that you understand how its body fits together and ooh wow look at the difference, you can draw a really good shrimp now!

The difference between that and what Mookie does is that you don't upload the first trace and pretend you did art good. And if he has decided to make it intentional, what is the intent? What statement is he making about mongrel society juxtaposed with IRL art and photography?

It's gonna be a whole thing on callout culture. See, they heard he did all those awful things from 'a trusted source', even though he was fine with them, and then they started ostracising him on the basis that he allegedly did bad poo poo to presumably good people before, and later on they felt like they were justified in loving up his poo poo for their own benefit.

Later on it's gonna turn out that all of those people were assholes who attacked him first, or lied about being attacked, or they were never attacked at all because the source lied because they don't like Arudak or something.

Always count on Mookie for the worst possible take.

There are three problems with that theory. 1) If Mookie had enough understanding of the rest of the internet to know what callout culture is, I don't think he'd still be making this extended train of runny shits. 2) Ink Witch is based on Mookie's wife, there is no way the comic isn't going to frame her as always right all the time. 3) That would display a startling lack of moral myopia, given what comic we're reading.

I'll give you the first one, but that's why I brought up the 'the source lied' thing, leaving room for the retcon that while she didn't personally take part in the bullying because she's a Nice Girl, she didn't try and stop it either because she was scared of the other witches in the coven turning on and browbeating her for not believing the source and by proxy the people he attacked, and therefore blames herself with them even though she had the least involvement, which tracks with Mookie liking doormats who blame themselves for everything.

As for the last part Mookie going for the 'those lying bitches ruined an innocent man's life' take on callout culture feels pretty in-character to me.

Everything about Snout's deafness is made infinitely worse by deaf characters like General Amaya here existing (spoilers for The Dragon Prince, season 3. There is no reason, literally none whatsover, for Snout to be this incapable of communication beyond making him seem as childlike and helpless as possible. Like this show went out of its way to add ASL, a complex language which necessitates focus on one of the most difficult parts of the body to draw and animate, and he has this guy holding up pieces of paper with Xs on them when he gets mad about a conversation that, once again, he has been excluded from for no reason.

I wonder, since Snout's the POV character and he's passed out, does this mean he can skip over the potential confrontation between Arudak, Squidward and the newcomers, and they can fill him in later with text so now Mookie doesn't have to draw a combat scene and just has to draw a static bedroom scene?

It's pretty convenient that they're all facing the exact same direction so that Mookie doesn't have to draw them in anything other than a 3/4 profile

I could see that being used for cheesy eeriness in a webcomic that went into the effort of drawing more than three of them. Like imagine if Snout came across a completely flat rock expanse, with hundreds of these things lined up facing away from the sun, casting shadows over every step he takes. Maybe he doodles on one, maybe he takes a nap in the shade of another. Then he leaves a little offering of food at the feet of one with a more severe crack in the face than the others.

Once he clears the crowd, he doesn't look back, but the camera does a 180 to show they've all turned to watch him, and the one with the cracked face is nowhere to be seen.

Not to mention that time he decided the best time to reveal Bumper (who was a thief) was black was when he was mindcontrolled and about to assault Luna, and then also that panel of him stuffing fried chicken into his mouth like an animal, and also how Bumper was, IIRC anyway, like the only casualty of The Beast that wasn't a one-off side character.

I guess that's not in the text though. But still, says a lot about what he thinks racism is.

I don't really play DND but I've always interpreted Lawful Good to mean someone with an uncompromising system of values/moral code, often connected to their belief in some divine power which guides them, even if it puts them at odds with the mortals and mortal laws around them, but if it fits she sits. Like, one of my Alliance characters in World of Warcraft is a paladin and she routinely ends up defending reviled classes like death knights even from other paladins, because her moral code demands that she protect the weak and her allies. Death knights were explicitly accepted by the High King of Stormwind and you're supposed to treat them as any other soldier, therefore if she sees some other paladins abusing a death knight for existing near them, she will stand up for that death knight, even if she's personally afraid of the undead due to her #tragic backstory.

I always assumed the terrible results you get with some Lawful Good paladins comes from the kinds of people who automatically assume that if something is illegal, it must be wrong, and that's what they mean when they saw 'lawful'. Like, someone who thinks prosecuting someone for stealing a TV from Walmart during a riot should be the top priority.

Have I gotten it wrong all this time and have I been playing my paladin as Chaotic Good? :psyduck:
