I remember in one of the Bill the Galactic Hero books, there was a chapter where Bill gets framed for murder and put into a prison holding cell on a spaceship. The guards strongly imply he should kill himself before facing judgement and inevitably torturous death, right before they put him in the cell. He is provided his prison clothing and wonders why it includes a sturdy leather belt with a well worn final hole. Then he notices there’s a hook welded into the ceiling exactly the size of a belt hole. Also I forgot the first season of Ray Donovan has him explicitly warning someone not to let any execs in the music industry ‘mess around’ with their teenage singer son. It’s so weird how ‘boomers in ________ industry are child predators’ has been internalized and treated as an open secret.

In my view, no one should ever be alone with a child (besides parents), especially a younger one. Teachers should have aides, two people and multiple children for a bathroom break. During a doctor's visit a family member should be present 100% of the time. Sometimes it will be unavoidable (babysitting for example), but vigilance and mandatory reporting go a long way towards stopping abuse.
