Details on the upcoming NWSL season: *Starts off with the the Challenge Cup, taking place during April 9 - May 8 (full schedule). The 10 teams are split into East (Louisville, North Carolina, Orlando, Sky Blue, Washington) and West (Chicago, Houston, Kansas City, Portland, Reign) for a 4 game group stage, with the group winners playing for the Cup. *24 game regular season, so some teams will play each other 3 times. *Playoff expands to 6 teams this year, with the top two teams getting a bye. whypick1 fucked around with this message at 19:25 on Mar 9, 2021 |

Kinda forgot this was the opening weekend for NWSL (in my defense, my team is the one with a bye this week). Caught the 2nd half of Portland-KC, which in the last 10 minutes saw 3 players and a coach get ejected...that I managed to completely miss seeing live.

Lol Merritt had tweeted out a second angle but has deleted it already. Simone Charley’s second yellow was a stupid challenge in KCs 18, absolutely a card. Not sure what made MarPar think that was worth getting his own red for but that’s why he’s the gaffer.

Oh, and double post, but the WSL is coming down to a potential photo finish. Man City is on 52 points with West Ham to play on May 9. Chelsea is on 51 points with Tottenham to play tomorrow and Reading on May 9. Chelsea holds the goal differential tiebreaker at the moment, at +52 to City's +51. If they ended up even on points and GD, though, City presently holds the second tiebreaker (goals scored). The ideal outcome for chaos, then, is that Tottenham holds Chelsea to a 1-1 draw tomorrow, giving Chelsea a 1 goal lead in goal differential going into the games on Sunday. However, if Tottenham is anything like their mens side, I'm expecting them to blow it. Tomorrow's Tottenham/Chelsea tilt is airing on NBCSN and NBCsports.com here in the US at 12:30 pm Eastern.

They brought in Marcus Bignot when they were scuffling mid season with a mandate to keep the team up, which he achieved, so his departure was expected. But Davies (head coach) and Sugarman (assistant manager) were both let go. That Lyon-Reign pipeline will finally start flowing towards America as this summer as after the the June FIFA international window Eugenie Le Sommer, Dzsenifer Marozsán and Sarah Bouhaddi will all be joining the Reign on loan for the remainder of the season. That's one hell of a set of summer reinforcements. Oh, and the Reign still own the NWSL rights to Rose Lavelle. Just FYI.
