yeah 2 years ago it was still wonky, but since about proton 6 it's been mostly smooth and i honestly don't remember the last game that didn't work for me out of the box since proton 7, apart from like i said, weird anticheat programs. so, game should work on steam deck out of the box fine, just set graphics options to get decent performance. but i dunno how well you can make it play on a controller Lead out in cuffs posted:Of course, now it doesn't tell me whether it's offering to install a game in a "hope this works in Wine good luck" you'll know when it starts installing microsoft c++ stuff on first run

Huh -- well it works, although it also reminded me to install the actual NVidia drivers. (Been impressed that all the natively-compiled stuff has run just great with the open-source drivers). But it is pretty sluggish. I don't think I'd be able to use it for anything other than running logi while at work (cough cough).

if you're seeing weird performance issues and you're on X11, try disabling the compositor (there's a setting to let apps/games block the compositor in KDE, no idea about other desktops), they can cause weird issues, especially on nvidia otherwise idk, most games run better than on windows for me now somehow

Rip_Van_Winkle posted:thats what the colonials thought last time This is war 93. I've been playing since before there were wars that had numbers. Colonials have never once made a "comeback" of any kind at all. All thier wins are uninterrupted steamrolls from day 1, most aided by stacked tech trees or severely overpowered items. They dont have any OP tech right now (not for lack of demanding it though) and last war's tech tree was pretty even, which is generally bad for them. It was one of their hardest collapses yet.

War 93 only happened because colonials didn't build their backline. We hit maybe 3 concrete bases during the entire comeback. There are 3 times as many bases in Loch Mor right now than collies built in all of viper pit during war 93.

So I just watched Baz and some other dude somehow manipulate and push a 250 Howtizer up the steps to aim through a breech in the Bulwark and proceed to hit and destroy the Town Hall of The Baths. This game.

There was at one time a glitch with the 250 wheelchair where you could increase its range by using terrain/vehicles/people/other objects to angle it up past 45 degrees elevation or so. The history of vehicle physics in this game is a weird one with lots of strange black magic-ish things going on. As a logi minded person I have used a barge ramp or two rowboat blueprints as a base to deploy a crane on a beach.

It's looking like a pretty huge update. - Industrial complexes for refining, manufacturing and storage - Trains! Player built train networks and trains. Mobile storm cannons - Flamethrowers both infantry and vehicles - Rocket artillery on various platforms - a bunch of new emplaced weapons - battle tanks are back plus super heavy tanks

How detailed did they get with trains? Is it preset track locations and then players build them or straight up free form everything anywhere? What happens when trains inevitably collide going both directions on a track? Will partisan attacks to sever rail lines be possible/worth it?

They didn't say what happens if trains crash.

Dev Q&A thread on reddit says there are no mechanics for train derailment currently. Also what vehicles get smashed vs. pushed is still WIP, bicycles getting smooshed was about the only definite so far.

As a logi main this is a really exciting and more than a little daunting prospect. So many new things to learn, and with the few hours I manage to play it will take a loong time for me to understand how to effectively work these new mechanisms, if I ever get there. I'm sure there will be lots of bugs, clunkiness and imbalance issues at first but the developer's vision for this game is pretty amazing IMO.
