Rachel is the trailer park at the beginning of Independence Day is located. nope i have been to roswell, that is definitely what i am thinking of because i have been there and not to rachel nevada. it might have a population of 50k but if you go to the downtown area it is in fact a sad, empty tourist attraction kind of place full of shops selling sun bleached plastic alien crap that no one is buying. even the streetlights on the main street are shaped like the gray alien head. the locals probably go to the various stripmalls and big box stores on the outskirts and avoid downtown entirely also even the largest city in new mexico is kind of desolate feeling in many places

Here's how it'll play out. However many people (tens? Hundreds of thousands?) will sign up for this poo poo. Half of those who sign up will be all "well, I can't get the time off work, can't go". 3/4 of the rest will say "there are no hotel rooms for 100 miles around there. I'm not going to drive 100 mile AND run through the dessert, then drive 100 miles back at the end of the day, gently caress that poo poo". A few hundred people will actually show up, look around and say "weren't there supposed to be like 10s of thousands of people here for this"? Most will leave. 100 people will be left, and of them, 50 people will walk slowly towards area 51, waiting for the other 50 people to join them. When its obvious that the other 50 won't be joining, 25 of the 50 who are walking slowly towards the gates/fences/perimeter/whatever will be all "Oh look, my shoe is untied" or "got a stone in my boot, I'm just going to stop here and re-tie, remove boot/dump stone etc". The last 25 will continue on and when the shooting starts, 17 bullets will take out 20 of the "stormers" while the remaining five run like hell in the other direction.
