Since extinction from bathing in the nuclear hellfire of a dying sun is an inevitable experience for all life, it's good to have a scale that expresses how narrow and delicate the temperature range is for supporting life.

It’s not like you go to Canada and everyone is struggling to quantify what everyone else means when they say “it’s hot out” Imperial system is so bogus we have to write extra code for our spaceships to translate the metric data they record into Imperial for our astronauts.
