Living in Toronto, this show is incredibly fun to watch. I worked for years with Roy Thomson Hall / Vaught HQ across the courtyard from my office. I spent most of my youth in Kensington Market / Chinatown that is featured prominently. I went on dates with my wife at the pub where Hughie takes Starlight. My doctors office is above the subway station where they filmed the tunnel scene season 1. My optometrist is in the background of the scene where Mesmer spies Butcher in the mall. I could go on. It's just such a loving hoot.

Independent of how awful her character is, I thing Stormfront has the best super power special effects on the show. Everytime I catch myself gazing at the lightning, it just looks so much cooler than Homelanders laser eyes.

I like Garth Ennis' Punisher MAX run. Probably because there's almost no sexual stuff in it, just wall-to-wall violence and psychopathy. 60 year old Frank Castle out there being a murder machine in a world without supes was fun.

I thought this was really great writing. Every parent capable of self reflection has moments like this, and it was very humanizing. Which is either the most appropriate or inappropriate word to use. It isn't a kind of parental moment you see reflected often in media either, and when it is its usually an elderly parent apologizing to their adult child. I was thumbing through a couple of long boxes last night (loving nerdiest way to start a sentence  ) and I came across my copy of The Punisher Kills The Marvel Universe. It's pretty much Ennis with proto-Butcher Frank Castle murdering the Marvel catalogue. The adapted origin scene, where Frank's family is killed by an X-Men / Avengers team-up instead of the mafia.  Frank being recruited by a shadowy cabal of superhero survivors.  Frank killing Captain America He also draws every mutant on earth to the moon for a big battle and then nukes/genocides them, which is a pretty hot take for 1995. Marvel loves their mutant persecution as a metaphor for racism, I'm honestly a bit shocked the editors let that through even in an adult fantasy one off like this. Anyways, it's a fun read because you can see both Punisher MAX and The Boys, roughly 250 issues of Ennis' future works, in their first iterations. Thank you for coming to my Ted Talk.
