If you're desperate for half decent Ringo try his early Posleen books. Don't read too far, or you'll get into his pre-story screen about how European Socialism is bad, followed by (in story) european government officials prevent Earth from rearming because War Is Bad. Oh, and that Nazis are a fantastic bunch of people to keep around because They Know War, and they're-not-really-that-bad-once-you-get-to-know-them. He's talking about literal fought-in-World-War-2 Nazis as well.

GD_American posted:My first field problem ever, they locked me in the switch and told me if I had a problem, the TMs were right there. I thought it was a hazing thing, but no, they legit locked me in until chow and locked me back up. I'm not familiar with this - they locked you in a switch? What's a switch in this context? TM would mean Technical Manual?

I'm pretty sure it's not even going to have the same plot - it's described as a "ground up reboot". So far it looks like it'll have the same themes and roughly the same characters, but everything else is up in the air.

I did Army Reserve training some *mumble* years ago and have some stuff from our grenade training: * One of the recruits wasn't particularily bright but definitely worked as hard as he could. That said, the Corporal assigned to train this guy to throw grenades had to have a breather after the actual throwing. * One of the grenades failed to explode and the range staff thought it was great. It was late in the day and they had to wait an hour before they did anything, which meant that they got EDO pay on top of their normal pay, and because of the lateness everything was at double or triple the normal rate.

Yes, very much do Turns out volunteering has a one in a million chance of actually being useful i.e. first in line for food.
