Finally managed to have a dinner with my dad since Kobe and he talked a bit about flying around the SF Bay. He got drafted around 67 and talked his way in a WO spot flying helicopters for several tours in Vietnam. When he got to his unit he was one of only 2 or 3 IFR pilots so he got all the IFR missions. After the war he moved the the CA ANG and flew all over CA and the Bay Area and was a flight instructor for the squadron. His favorite was to have his students fly into Chrissy Field (basically at the GG Bridge, where all the fog enters and theres perpetual low cloud cover) and pop the collective so they would pop up into the cloud cover to see what they do. He says the students had to transition to IFR immediately or they would augur and 100% of them would have augured the 1st time. It usually took 3/4 times to learn and figure it out. He is definitely an idiot for multiple stupid things including women and flying under the bay bridge until he encountered a low hanging cable, but is pretty decent at flying with a specialization in helicopters.

He loves flying so he worked at airfields for lessons/flight time when he was a kid. When he was drafted he thought it would be better to fly than anything else and talked his way into a flight slot and did 3 tours 68-72 I think. He did everything he could to get out of Vietnam and always went to Australia for R&R cause it was easy to hook up with the women there.Milo and POTUS posted:Did... did your dad make the news? Fortunately no but 30-40 years ago there was a lot more freedom to dick around in helicopters. Almost all the bay area bases have closed as well now unfortunately. From like middle school through high school we used gay as more of a replacement for dumb or stupid. There wasnt really any homophobia behind it, just kids being dumb and insensitive. This continued until I used it in front of some gay friends and was reminded they were gay immediately after. That's basically the last time I used it like that.

Heat transfer to the internals would have negative effects as lubrication burned off and the metal expanded. You would eventually get metal on metal contact and the bolt would seize (I'm assuming I know nothing about guns). Heat transfer is also wasted, as it moves to the weapon instead of forcing the round out of the barrel.

How can you never see them? Most people think the ocean is dirty due to their experience with bays but that water is gross cause of land. Oops, true. Its mostly devoid of life and hopefully not polluted to a toxic extent. Theres large deserts in the ocean without a lot of life. I got off in NY on a Maersk ship and took the train back to the bay area. You can get the coach seat and just sleep in it but I wouldn't recommend it. I got a cabin and it wasn't bad. Spent most of it reading Shogun and looking out the window. Could also bring alcohol or some recreationals but you want something that will keep you occupied for a lot of time because Chicago to the Rockies it doesn't change much. Its nice if you want some breathing room to readjust back into society and it was definitely cool to do it once. Theres no need for the whole thing if you just want to do a section though.
