Are all IT departments just dens of thieves? Every place I've worked had IT guys rolling 6 month old workstations out to their cars because they were "defective" and accounting/management gave no shits.

a guy at my old job 'stole' some retired furniture (poker machine cabinetry with decorative paneling on it that was specific to our venue) out of the dumpster to put in his sports bar garage (he had a poker machine and wanted something to put it on) anyway, one of his friends took a photo of his sports bar set up and put it on a facebook group for 'man caves' or whatever. it got about 15k likes, ended up being reposted by a bunch of facebook pages, and the GMs husband saw it was like 'isnt that...from your venue?' guy got pulled into a meeting and fired for stealing company property. 'but it was in the garbage, you were literally throwing it out?' apparently is a) an admission of guilt and b) doesnt matter, you cant take company property home without written permission from the GM and CEO of the entire org. wrt IT stuff I have a bunch of old hardware and even relatively new hardware at home that got bought and never used or the project was killed or it was found to be not fit for purpose. I got a stack of about 10 ipad minis in varying states of operation that I could probably get 5 working ones out of.
