I love this series, also foreshadowing at the end?

It certainly seems like it, though I think I might be a little too dumb to understand what exactly is being foreshadowed, unless there's some kind of hidden land where they all speak like Shakespeare, or if there's a research lab where they all speak classically for some reason.

Kinda sorta? You're a smart guy [that works for a spy network], fuckin' figure it out yourself."

There's abstract and concrete. In the past, Yuri's been shown to respond to human tragedy caused by his work, and he's tried to keep the damage to a minimum.

Him taking this as a moment to reflect would be in keeping with his spotlight chapter.

Yeah, it's one thing to go "Yeah, we should totally exterminate [group of people]! That sounds like a great idea!" and another to actually face the consequences. IIRC the whole reason Nazi germany used gas chambers is because shooting unarmed civilians was mentally devastating to the soldiers doing the murdering. Hopefully Yuri has a "Am I the bad guy?" moment soon; NGL, it kind of makes me uncomfortable after the fact to be amused by his antics knowing he's basically manga!Stasi.

I imagine there's a bit more going on simply because this is a story about super spys, superhuman assassins, psychics etc, so just having the main antagonists be normal humans with normal human problems, even ones blown up for comic effect seems a bit mundane, but that said I think it's less that Damien reminds Melinda of Donovan and more that she hates the suggestion that Damien cares about Donovan in any way. She is all loving and worry until Damien asks her not to tell Donovan that he cried, at which point she turns and it gives me the impression that she hates that Damien cares about Donovan's attention and love at all, and wants him to love her and only her instead with her preferring that he be dead than that he want his father's approval.

Yeah, this is my read on it too. Melinda loves her son when she can think of him as just Her Son™, but when dad's brought into the equation she ends up being reminded of someone she absolutely loathes. Don't get me wrong, she definitely needs some help, and there might be some psychic tomfoolery going around, but at the core of it I think she's just a woman who loves her son dearly and wishes the sperm donor was dead and buried.

I kind of view Ostania as being similar to late Tsarist Russia, actually- their secret police might look like the Stasi, but maybe they're actually like the Cheka?

Also, I love the confirmation that Yor is turbo-horny for Loid to the point where even sleeping in the same room with separate beds is enough to get her to cool off in a blizzard- and that Master Spy™ Loid still can't pick up on it :allears: I do wonder how the punny names were presented in Japanese, though.
