She is all loving and worry until Damien asks her not to tell Donovan that he cried, at which point she turns and it gives me the impression that she hates that Damien cares about Donovan's attention and love at all, and wants him to love her and only her instead with her preferring that he be dead than that he want his father's approval. Yeah, this is my read on it too. Melinda loves her son when she can think of him as just Her Son™, but when dad's brought into the equation she ends up being reminded of someone she absolutely loathes. Don't get me wrong, she definitely needs some help, and there might be some psychic tomfoolery going around, but at the core of it I think she's just a woman who loves her son dearly and wishes the sperm donor was dead and buried.

I kind of view Ostania as being similar to late Tsarist Russia, actually- their secret police might look like the Stasi, but maybe they're actually like the Cheka? Also, I love the confirmation that Yor is turbo-horny for Loid to the point where even sleeping in the same room with separate beds is enough to get her to cool off in a blizzard- and that Master Spy™ Loid still can't pick up on it I do wonder how the punny names were presented in Japanese, though.
