I know it's not easy to find good child actors, but getting an adult to feign such a young girl's voice rarely (if ever) works, so it's not a good alternative. And -- no surprises -- it's not working here. The animation from that trailer also didn't look particularly impressive. Welp, at the least, the manga will continue to delight and this adaptation can be safely ignored. Saoshyant fucked around with this message at 13:24 on Mar 18, 2022 |

Out of the top of my head, I only seem to remember two anime adaptations that had good VAs for children characters: Barakamon and Usagi Drop. There's likely more, but I don't watch that many shows. All that to say when one of your story's main character is meant to be a really young child, picking the right VA makes a world of difference, otherwise it's just "hello fellow kids" with a very high pitched voice.

Wow, a whole Yuri chapter. Thank god for Chloe. And she's right, it is exhausting dealing with this guy. Love the hypocritical spiel: "all because abusing people is the only thing that brings any satisfaction to you worthless trash". You don't say!

Twilight will never stop second guessing himself with regrets when it comes to his mission. That confession at the end truly was unexpected.

Now this is how you make a side chapter for any story! What a beautiful chapter, full of great moments for these minor characters. There's so much packed in such a short amount of pages.

doomrider7 posted:I don't disagree, but what I'm saying is that it should have been telegraphed more/better since it was completely abrupt and we the viewer have nothing to go on that he's that badly banged up since he seems fine. Like a few pages showing progression of his injuries taking a toll or something. Him visibly wobbling around. Him constantly using the well being of others around him as a distraction for his own condition. Him being desperate for any sort of human connection. Those are common signs that certain people do when they know they are in really bad shape/dying. More telegraphed than that and I'd say it would be detrimental to the story.

ImpAtom posted:Did people just erase the Loyd backstory stuff from their mind? That was two chapters, whereas this one is going to reach a fifth one for its ending, and while I'm fine with it, I understand why some may think it's been a bit too much. Speaking of, the most depressing thing about the Twilight backstory was when he woke up and immediately described the house as not his. That was a kick in the shin coming out of that depressing flashback, only to learn that even in the present he's not in a good place emotionally as he's completely dissociated from everything around him.

That sudden glance at what appears to be one of the butlers, or what appears to be a revelation he got. It's pretty worrying, whatever that was. But, otherwise, just your normal family dinner.

PringleCreamEgg posted:This was also legitimately my interpretation of the chapter, though I’m not as convinced about the mind reading thing. Donovan might have just seen some poo poo and have a thousand yard stare because of it. Also we see his eyes squint but I think that’s because he was smiling, we just didn’t see below the bridge of his nose. He has stitches all across his scalp from some surgery. The ending panel in this chapter made sure to put those on focus for a reason, I imagine. Could be a red herring, but the pieces are lining up toward some sort of mind reading power, limited or not.
