I wonder if Daybreak was supposed to be a false flag sent by Donovan as part of one of his political battles. He failed and got fired because he wasn't caught like he was supposed to be.

I really hope that turns out to be case. It would just be too hilarious if Daybreak even failed at failing.

It's interesting that Henderson seems to have some actual theories about history. In fact, his insistence on "ideas" and deliberate human action as the central factor for historical developments sounds a bit like Historism.

Rather tangential, but the 'Berlint in Love' thing could be a nod to a real-life German telenovela that used to be a relatively big thing in Germany 15 years ago. That would be an... unexpected reference, to say the least.

I think it's kind of an opportunity here for Loid to be tempted to progress his actual mission, and thus demonstrate a flaw in his personality that he needs to move past.
That sounds like it could be an interesting development, but I don't think it would really be evidence of a flaw on Loid's part. After all, his mission is to prevent a potentially catastrophic war; if he decides that the personal happiness of himself and his family (or of Damian) is less of a priority than saving all the people who would die in that war, I'd hesitate to call that a wrong decision. But that sort of conflict of priorities could make for a good story in itself.

So the Stasi aren't as overbearing as the early chapters depicted the culture of state police, or maybe it's just this instance because Yuri understands this guy's plight.
I'm not sure about that; it's not a good sign when even the children threaten to rat people out to the secret police. And Yuri still trailed that guy's every move for multiple days.

Reminder that Twilight's main target is wealthy businessman as well as leader of a Ostanians nationalistic party and a plot point in one of previous chapters was his company buying out the company of one of Damien's schoolmates. Which doesn't really track to communism, even Soviet-era style communism very well.
It would be kind of hilarious if Ostania is a capitalist dictatorship and Westalis is a socialist democracy.

There WERE actually "elections" in the Soviet Union, though I'm not sure about the GDR specifically, they just only had one candidate on the ballot for positions.
The GDR had a few other parties, but they were almost 100% controlled opposition; the elections only offered a "Yes" or "No" choice on a pre-arranged distribution of parliamentary seats between the parties (pre-arranged by the ruling Socialist Unity Party, of course). The elections were not really confidential because not filling out the ballot was counted as a Yes vote, so entering the voting booth instead of just folding up the unmarked ballot and throwing it into the urn was taken as an indication that you were voting No (or that you were striking off some persons on the pre-arranged list, which was theoretically an option), and that would most likely get you in trouble.

My favourite part is that Anya doesn't lift a finger to actually help Yor in the fight. She doesn't doubt for a second that her mama will wipe the floor with that guy.

Isn't that the role of Daylight or Dawnstar or Morningglory
Huh, you're right: Daybreak perfectly combines Yor's lack of spying skills, Anya's lack of combat prowess, and Loid's lack of emotional intelligence.

Wonderful chapter :3:

But "Where did everyone else go to learn how to be normal?" hits hard.

Well, according to his "authorized biography" James Bond was born in Wattenscheid, so there you go :v:
