Jimi Hendrix's version of "All along the Watchtower" originally by Bob Dylan had so much of that feel and soul that Jimi could put into a song that apparently Bob said something along the lines of "This isn't my song anymore. it's Jimi's" and even himself started playing it at shows more like the cover version because it was that good. How much of that is myth I don't know for sure but I have heard it from multiple places, and it's hard to deny Jimi tears it up either way.

It's definitely an example of a cover being way better than the original and i say that as someone who likes bobby D a lot

I completely agree, to the extent of it is one of those "wait, that isn't the original version?!?!" songs and not because of being uninformed, from a different generation, or the like, but just because it is that good!

Yeah. I think most people think of the Hendrix version immediately when they hear the song title.

I love this, the original gets played on the local rock stations so much and I'm completely sick of it.

The original gets played to DEATH for sure. Negativland are some turbonerds but I love their stuff. They've gotten their hands on some really rare recordings, like that Casey Kasem rant.

Electric Hellfire Club did this cover of Sunday Bloody Sunday.

Negativland is also a song by Neu! so when u think about it their band name is itself a cover :aaaaa:

Very true. I definitely need to listen to more Krautrock.

Flipper's version of The Old Lady Who Swallowed a Fly is bad. But on purpose. They liked to harass their audience.

Melvins also covered Flipper on Lysol

Dang, this is some lo-fi goodness. I'll even give the kind of annoying (just because it's overdone) sampled oohs a pass because the rest if it is so good. I never really liked the original song, but this makes it how it should sound.

Just saw Weird Al, he's still got it.

Kind of a cover, kind of not: The Blow - "Come on Petunia".

I like it better than the original by The Police, but then again I just love The Blow.
