NXT Takeover Toronto Results:
  • The Street Profits (C) defeated The Undisputed Era to retain their NXT Tag Titles. Match was very, very good.
  • Io Shirai defeated Candice LaRae in what was arguably the match of the night. Io looked like a star but Candice more than held up her own end.
  • Matt Riddle emerged from the crowd demanding Killian Dain show himself. Dain showed up and they started brawling, and when security ran out to stop them Riddle took them all out. Riddle was going to put an end to Dain who managed to put both him and one of the security guards through a pair of tables on the side of the stage.
  • Velveteen Dream (C) defeated Pete Dunne and Roderick Strong to retain his NXT North American Championship, this was a very exciting, fastpaced match.
  • Shayna Baszler (C) defeated Mia Yim by submission to retain her NXT Women's Championship. The match was fine if underwhelming, but the booking was a little weird, given that Shayna has defeated basically everybody and now her only real legitimate rival is Io, who she has both beaten before AND would now be a heel vs. heel match. There was no doubt this was a clean and deserved victory, Mia Yim doesn't really have any argument for a rematch.
  • Adam Cole (C) defeated Johnny Gargano in a 2-out-of3 Falls match. Gargano lost the first match by DQ after attacking Cole with a chair, then won the second which was a street fight. The final match was a Barbed Wire Steel Cage match with no escape rules. The ending came when Cole and Gargano went off a platform on top of the cage through two tables below, and Cole was able to cover Gargano. This match, while very exciting in parts, felt like it was just a little too much and that the fued had outlived its welcome.
  • After the show went off the air, Gargano and Candice stood together in the ring and got chants of thanks from the crowd that made it feel like this was the end of their time in NXT.

Summerslam Results:
  • On the pre-show, Drew Gulak (C) defeated Oney Lorcan to retain his Cruierweight Championship, using the ring skirt as a distraction to hit his finisher.
  • Drake Maverick caught R-Truth and Carmella backstage eating popcorn and hurt his knee chasing after them to try to get the 24/7 Title again.
  • Apollo Crews and Buddy Murphy went 4 minutes before Rowan showed up and attacked Murphy for snitching on him for the recent attacks on Roman Reigns.
  • Elias came out to mock Toronto, and Edge came out and hit him with a Spear. This is the most physical in-ring activity Edge has been allowed to do by WWE since his retirement in 2011.
  • Bizarrely, the Women's Tag Titles defense was on the pre-show. Nikki Cross and Alexa Bliss (C) retained over The IIconics. Tomorrow they are set to face The Kabuki Warriors on Raw. The match was not very good.
  • The main card opened with Raw Women's Champion Becky Lynch retaining her title against Nattie Neidhart in a Submission match. The Toronto crowd was firmly behind both women but booed Becky at points for escaping the Sharpshooter or trying to use the move herself (Nattie did the same with the DisArmHer). In the end Becky submitted Nattie with the DisArmHer, reaction seemed to be mixed between "okay" and "good" for this match.
  • Trish was interviewed about having her one last match against Charlotte Flair.
  • Goldberg demolished Dolph Ziggler after eating a superkick and kicking out at one, then eating another and kicking out at two, then hitting the Spear/Jackhammer for the win. Ziggler, still selling the damage, got a mic and mocked Goldberg's power, so Goldberg speared him again. Ziggler didn't know when enough was enough and grabbed the mic again to moan that Goldberg is too much of a coward to face him man-to-man (?), so Goldberg came out and speared him again.
  • New Day were doing a promo about Drake (the musician) being there, but it was actually Drake.... Maverick. Kofi claimed he'd been waiting 10 years to get his revenge on Orton for holding him down.
  • AJ Styles (C) retained his United States Championship against Ricochet, in a match where Ricochet's acrobatics were largely restricted outside of a couple cool spots due to AJ working over the legs. The crowd was dead for this, probably from being fired up by Goldberg before this. The OC did the Magic Killer on Ricochet postmatch.
  • Bayley (C) defeated Ember Moon to retain her Smackdown Women's Championship. Crowd was dead for this match too.
  • Kevin Owens defeated Shane McMahon to keep his career alive, in a match that had no other stakes because Shane refused to put his own career on the line. Elias was the guest enforcer and frequently interfered, while Shane tried to goad Owens into getting DQed. Owens ended up going ham on Elias with the chair, then let the ref remove the chair from the ring which enabled him to hit a low blow behind the ref's back, then hit the Stunner and get the win.
  • Charlotte Flair defeated Trish Stratus in a long match that started with a dead crowd but slowly got them worked up and into the match. Flair won with the Figure 8 and left Trish to get an ovation from the crowd. Trish looked good and help up her end of the match well.
  • Seth was shown backstage and booing immediately started only to cut off straightaway when Bret Hart showed up, proving he was right to disregard any concerns about WWE being mad he appeared on AEW because it's not like they can hurt him any worse than they already have. Bret wished Seth good luck.
  • Kofi Kingston (C) retained his WWE Championship by double countout in a loving terrible and stupid finish to a shockingly boring match considering the participants and the awesome video package playing up their history. Orton had hit an RKO but was too exhausted to get the pin allowing Kofi to roll out. Orton followed him and mocked Kofi's family in the front row just ahead of the double countout. Kofi beat the poo poo out of Orton with a kendo stick afterwards but the crowd was already lost, chanting,"BULLSHIT!"
  • THE FIEND came out for his match with Finn Balor. The camerawork was awful but the redo of Bray's theme is good, and THE FIEND now carries a lantern made from Bray's severed head which is pretty drat cool. THE FIEND initially dominated but then seemed to get hung up on his "HURT/HEAL" gloves (Cole's "he is struggling within himself and within his own emotions :geno:" call was hilariously bad) which let Balor get a little offense in. THE FIEND caught him coming off the top with The Mandible Claw and got the win.
  • The lights went out and Bray's cackling laughter was heard, and THE FIEND appearing in a flashing spotlight looking back over his shoulder through the screen into the souls and minds of the viewers. The lights came back up and THE FIEND was gone, and the crowd chanted,"THAT WAS AWESOME!" while Finn struggled to get his breath back.
  • The main event was Brock Lesnar (C) vs. Seth Rollins for the Universal Championship. Seth got the early advantage, successfully hitting a Curb Stomp and then building up to another after stunning Brock with multiple Superkicks. But Brock was able to catch the Curbstomp into an F5, and actually bodily swung him around in cicles by the bandages around his waist.
  • Seth smacked Brock into the ringpost outside and went for a knee off the top rope but ate a German Suplex for his troubles. The crowd chanted,"SUPLEX CITY!" and,"BURN IT DOWN!" as Brock threw Seth around with some more suplexes. They fought back and forth to the outside and Seth got Brock onto the announce table, then hit a rough looking Frog Splash from the top turnbuckle to Brock through the table.
  • Seth hit another splash on Brock back inside the ring, then hit the Curb Stomp but it only got him a two count. Brock went for an F5 but Seth escaped, hit a Superkick and a third Curbstomp and pinned Brock to win back the Universal Championship. The crowd, which had booed him at points tonight, were fully into the finish and cheered for his victory, while Brock crawled away at ringside by a horrified Paul Heyman.
  • El Generico posted:

Between The Fiend being executed awesomely and Dolph Ziggler being chumped to death, I'm glad I watched tonight.
  • NoMoneyDown posted:

You know what, I'd rather watch Shayna and Mia Yim wrestle for 3 hours straight than put myself through this dreck canal of a show.

Raw Results:
  • Seth Rollins came out to celebrate his (great) victory over Brock Lesnar. He admitted that he hadn't been 100% confident he could win in spite of his claims from last week, but the crowd's energy gave him the strength he needed. The crowd chanted,"BEAST SLAYER!" which kinda sounded like,"HEATH SLATER!"
  • AJ Styles and The OC came out and offered their own congratulations to Seth, but AJ said that now Brock was dealt with, Seth had to worry about him now. He wanted a match against Seth to see who the better champion was, which the crowd was definitely into. Seth noted he was banged up but wouldn't back down, so he accepted the challenge but wouldn't shake AJ's hand until after The OC left the ring.
  • Despite Seth's great performance last night and the crowd being behind him up to this point, the segment ended with the crowd chanting for AJ.
  • The Street Profits were backstage struggling to get too pumped up because they were so tired from partying after Summerslam. Sami Zayn arrived and warned them that while they were currently the new guys around, the parasite fans would soon drain the life out of them. He listed Seth and Becky as examples of this, and the Street Profits tricked him into saying the same about Samoa Joe who was, of course, standing directly behind him. Joe challenged Zayn to a match to prove he was more than Kevin Owens' waterboy.
  • The King of the Ring tournament starts on next week's Raw, with Ricochet, Ali, Andrade, Cesaro, Apollo Crews and Samoa Joe shown
  • Samoa Joe defeated Sami Zayn in less than a minute, and the crowd was super excited. Unfortunately for them, Joe then cut a heel promo saying he forgave Roman Reigns for (not) accusing him, but he wouldn't forgive the fans for (not) accusing him.
  • Dolph Ziggler came out in street clothes (including a Kabuki Warriors shirt) and said he wasn't medically cleared to face Miz, accusing him of being a coward who sent in Goldberg to do his dirty work. But as he was leaving the ring, he suddenly jumped Miz from behind and the match kicked off during the commercial break. Miz made him Ziggler tap out with the Figure Four, afterwards Ziggler cut a promo on Miz and Maryse, and was still talking poo poo even as Miz hit him with a Skull Crushing Finale.
  • Charly Caruso was going to interview Becky Lynch who took over instead, grabbing the mic and cutting a promo into the camera about how she respected Nattie but still took her out at Summerslam because she wasn't here to make friends. She warned the other wrestlers to either come after her, or she would come after them.
  • Elias said he'd figured out that people loved to interrupt his concerts so gave anybody who wanted to till the count of three to do so. Nobody did so he started playing... and was interrupted by Ricochet.
  • Ricochet defeated Elias in a quick, messy match that ended with Elias' shoulder plainly up, to the point that the announcers talked it up and Elias complained to the ref... but nothing else came of it.
  • They announced to the Toronto crowd that next year Summerslam will be in Boston, which got boos obviously.
  • Bizarrely, Andrade defeated Rey Mysterio in a 2-out-of-3 Falls match in five minutes, with the first fall coming in less than 30 seconds. The crowd didn't really know how to react to this.
  • Steve Austin did an interview via Skype with Michael Cole, talking up Seth Rollins' win over Lesnar before Cole wished him the best of luck with his new show. No surprise considering it was Skype, but the audio quality was bad and the segment felt like a waste of Austin.... except it did lead to this beautiful creation:
  • Rey Mysterio was backstage, despondent over his quick losses. He told Charly all he could say was that he has a family to support. He walked away without further explanation.
  • The next Street Profits segment had Angelo Dawkins sleeping backstage, and Montez Ford trying to wake him by talking about Nikki Cross. Dawkins knocked back a jug of water as the crowd chanted,"CHUG! CHUG! CHUG!"
  • Cedric Alexander and Drew McIntyre had a really fun match that showcased both guys strengths pretty well. Drew won decisively and cleanly with the Claymore Kick, but Cedric got in a ton of offense including a pretty remarkable backcracker on the outside of the ring.
  • AJ and The OC were having a good time backstage talking up AJ's chances in the Champion vs. Champion match against Seth later tonight.
  • Paul Heyman stormed through the backstage and into a room with a Brock Lesnar sign on it.
  • Bobby Roode quickly defeated No Way Jose in a match that seemed more there to remind everybody both guys exist.
  • A pissed off Paul Heyman did an interview backstage revealing that WWE had informed him that Brock Lesnar got no rematch for the Universal Championship. He stormed back into the room again.
  • Lucha House Party vs. The Revival went to a no-contest when R-Truth came racing down to the ring with Carmella chased by various jobbers. The Revival took advantage to get a pinfall over Truth and seemingly become co-champions. LHP tried to get involved as well but Dash Wilder got them out of the ring, and Carmella pulled Truth in to make the pin on Dawson (and only Dawson) and escaped. Drake was bringing up the rear chasing him out after being tripped at the start of the segment by Carmella.
  • Truth and Carmella snuck around the back of the jobber search party and celebrated in the back, until Elias jumped Truth from behind with a guitar shot and became the new 24/7 Champion.
  • Nattie did an in-ring promo with her arm in a sling. She said that she respected Becky Lynch for being the better woman on the night, but she didn't regret anything she'd said about her before the match and she intended to come back once healed and go at it with Becky again.
  • She started to do a tearful bit about dreaming about her father last night when Sasha Banks' music played to a huge pop and Sasha returned. She hugged Sasha.... then loving NAILED her with a forearm so hard that her own purple wig came off to reveal she has blue hair now. She beat the poo poo out of Nattie, deliberately working over her bad arm, and dumped her out of the ring like a sack of trash. The crowd actually chanted,"THANK YOU SASHA!"
  • Becky Lynch came out to a pop and she and Sasha went at it. Sasha got the upper hand, grabbed a chair and went ham on Becky with it. Referees ran out to chase her off, and she smugly walked back up the ramp. This was a really cool segment.
  • Sugar Blaster posted:

[SASHA RUNS AFOUL OF AN IRISHWOMAN]

Milhouse: KILL HER SASHA! KILL THAT IRISHWOMAN!
  • The Viking Raiders quickly demolished a pair of jobbers (Carter Mason & SEBASTIAN SUAVE) and left their corpses laying in and around the ring.
  • Alexa and Nikki were interviewed backstage and said that unlike the IIconics they would be fighting champions. Nikki thanked Alexa for the success she'd brought her and Alexa was moved by the gesture, saying that they get results when it's the two of them against the world.
  • Paige was not managing The Kabuki Warriors tonight, as she is undergoing another neck surgery.
  • Alexa and Nikki defeated The Kabuki Warriors with a really weird ending to the match, with Nikki motionless after The Insane Elbow but the pin broken up by Alexa. Alexa tried to drag Nikki's corpse to the corner for the tag, Kairi attacked her but then got hit by a swinging neckbreaker by Nikki. Nikki tagged Alexa who hit Twisted Bliss and got the pin.
  • Universal Champion Seth Rollins did a promo backstage warning AJ Styles he was going to remind the United States Champion who the REAL champion is.
  • AJ vs. Seth was marked by frequent interference by The OC until the referee finally had enough and ordered them to leave ringside. So of course they immediately ran in and attacked Seth, causing a DQ. Ricochet ran down to try and even the odds, but The OC overpowered him and took him out as well.
  • As they were putting up Seth for a three man powerbomb from the top rope, BRAUN! arrived took out The OC and then hit two running powerslams in a row on AJ.
  • BRAUN! left the ring and collected the Universal title, then handed it over to Seth in the middle of the ring and shook his hand. Ricochet rejoined them in the ring to check on Seth and the show went off the air with the three of them standing together in the ring.

Smackdown Results:
  • Kevin Owens came out to a gigantic reaction from the Toronto crowd. He said he had a lot of great memories from his 5 years in WWE so far, but none quite as great as kicking Shane McMahon's rear end at Summerslam. He said now he was moving on to the King of the Ring, mentioning Angle, Bret Hart and Owen Hart as prestigious former winners.
  • Shane McMahon came out to an "rear end in a top hat!" chant and showed footage of Owens kicking him on the dick, which got a,"YOU DESERVE IT!" chant. He said he had no choice but to fine Owens 100k for attacking Elias when he was in an official capacity, and that he had given Elias the night off and suspended the 24/7 Title rule.
  • Owens was furious at his family being screwed over by this fine and confronted Shane backstage, but was warned that if he laid a hand on Shane he would be suspended. Owens threw a chair at the TV screen in a rage.
  • Charlotte Flair defeated Ember Moon in a back and forth match where the crowd was divided into two sides: pro-Charlotte and anti-Charlotte. Moon basically came out of this title program with nothing, having been beaten clean by Bayley and now beaten largely cleanly (there was a little hair pulling) by Charlotte.
  • Daniel Bryan lead Rowan through the backstage to address in the ring Roman Reigns' allegations that Rowan attacked him. Once in the ring he said Buddy Murphy was lying but he didn't blame him, saying anybody would have lied to escape more of the beating Roman dished out. He got the fans to chant,"YES!" after asking if they thought he was behind the attacks on Roman, then said he and Rowan were innocent and would prove it tonight.
  • Samoe Joe arrived as Shane was being interviewed about who Kevin Owens' opponent would be, and Shane jumped on the chance to announce it would be Joe.
  • Aleister Black is back to sitting around demanding an opponent "knock" and answer his challenge.
  • Roman Reigns defeated Buddy Murphy in Murphy's first official Smackdown match. Murphy put up a really good effort considering Roman's status in the company, eventually losing after being hit with the Superman Punch off the steps on the floor and then Speared in the ring.
  • The Revival were interviewed backstage about their challenge to The New Day, and they said New Day were ruining the tag division. After a break, New Day retorted that they hadn't ruined the division. Kofi discussed his postmatch attack on Orton at Summerslam, then said tonight was about BIG E and Xavier and hed be in their corner for the match with The Revival.
  • Samoa Joe defeated Kevin Owens by fast-count after Elias pulled the referee out of the ring and got into an argument with Owens, allowing Joe to get the roll-up victory. So the Shane/Kevin angle basically is continuing. Great.
  • Bryan and Rowan emptied out the locker room of everybody but Buddy Murphy. Bryan had Rowan beat Murphy around the ring until he finally admitted that he'd lied. Bryan declared he hated liars and had Rowan hurl Murphy across the room.
  • Randy Orton came out before the New Day/Revival tag match could happen, talking poo poo about Kofi and saying he ran away from the fight last night and would have to admit to his kids in the years to come that he was scared of Orton and can't beat him. He challenged all three to take on him and the Revival in a six-man tag.
  • Orton and The Revival defeated The New Day, hitting a Shatter Machine on Xavier Woods to get the win while Kofi and Orton were fighting outside the ring. The Revival attacked BIG E and Xavier postmatch and Kofi ran them off, then ate an RKO from Orton. The crowd chanted,"ONE MORE TIME!" so Orton hit an RKO on Xavier and the crowd chanted,"ONE MORE TIME!" so Orton hit an RKO on BIG E. The fans cheered and Orton then hit an RKO on Kofi one more time for good measure.
  • Orton is the heel, by the way.
  • Roman walked into Bryan and Rowan's locker room where a gleeful Bryan demanded to know where their apology was, pointing out that Roman apologized to Joe last week so why not them now? Roman was pissed and looked like he wanted to fight for... an accurate summation of events... but Bryan cut him off by telling him he'd conducted his own investigation and now knew who attacked Roman. He'd reveal the culprit... next week.

So with a simple story, a clean finish, and no shenanigans, people went happy seeing the biggest bootlicker in the company win because despite belief about WWE criticisms it isn't that they hate WWE and WWE wrestlers, its that they just want good wrestling and it turns out letting good wrestlers have a good wrestling match even betqween two wrestlers most fans hate for different reasons having the right story and right outcome and right booking means PEOPLE WILL ENJOY IT.

Noting this for when WWE declines starting tomorrow and Seth has to start calling fans fickle for himself being terribly booked while Moxley gets booked well everywhere.

Given the amount of money he makes per match, he's probably like "it's the least I can do", plus he usually either knows the guy and likes him or Paul probably tells him "this guy's worth making look like a million bucks" and he trusts Paul far more than he trusts Vince to know these things.
