It's also worth noting that just a few short years ago ZUN was against putting his games on online storefronts and now it's a regular thing. he changes his mind about stuff and I think it sometimes gets lost in the shuffle.

That was the year DDC came out which is also the first time he actually released online. I don't have a link handy cuz its been awhile at this point but he was not nearly as positive about it in the years before.

EDIT: Which is not to say I'm like 100% sure this isn't some apocrypha on my end, just that I remember it was a discussion at the time and then 2013 was where the flip happened (which seems to be backed by DDC's eventual online release).

Moe Harukawa is strongly associated with Touhou manga (for good reason) so that may cause some small disappointment in people but I'm always excited to see a new person tackle it.

That's true I just often see a few people focus on Moe as the iconic mangaka to the exclusion of the others.

They're not really but at least from my observation FS is considered the cream of the crop so to speak. It helps that Moe also did the character art for ULiL and AoCF so that's a tie in that leads people in that direction.

I hope Aya works on manga again (after a long well deserved break of course) even if its not Touhou. She really grew into it and I'd love to see where she goes from here.

Not sold on Reimu's voice, Marisa is good when rowdy, most of the others I heard were p alright but also I got a 5* Cirno with my regular banner 10 roll and shes p good voice wise. I'm pretty happy with those so far.

Yeah the cutscenes are nice. I dunno if I'm gonna stick with this game forever cuz it's less engaging since I can't read it, but I'd like to get a Kaguya when that's a thing and goof around.

I mean they made a game about urban legends called Urban Legend in Limbo. Touhou names tend to be evocative and on the nose.

its a pretty common refrain. for ref zun didnt intend it but not because he thinks theyre all straight, he just isnt comfortable writing anything romantic so the orientation of his characters isnt something he ever really considered.

not in the west either. very very specifically a vocal minority who feels the games ten desires on have been half baked compared to earlier entries. for some reason the outsize representation this incredibly small group has is astronomical (they arent right even if you limit it to just people who actually play the games, because stuff like score competitions, getting touhou at gdq etc are all more recent than loving ten desires, a decade old game) but its not true.

part of it is this thread is also about the non-videogame ventures like the various manga etc, part of it is weird ol sa tribalism where we get stuff thats "anime" even if it would be fine or even preferable elsewhere, because were the anime forum and were about 2 decades ago now a containment forum. while attitudes have definitely improved since then theres still lil things that pop up

also for reference the next reitaisai is may 8th, and these demo versions usually take about a day or two for someone to rip from disc and post on the internet. so it wont be a huge wait. also the blog says that while its a versus touhou like phantasmagorias past, its designed to be closer to a regular modern touhou. not sure what that means exactly but as a guess probably more refined bullets overall since a lot of older phantasmagoria was just weird kinda clunky sprays. sounds cool if so.

nope, that was explicitly stated in the post about the release, theres not gonna be any character reveals until the full release in august. people have even tried datamining the demo and the only thing they found was some leftover assets from 18.5
