The Teenjus thing works so well as a gag. I think it's helped by the fact that the name Jesus itself is such a weird word that has mutated so much over the years in a 2 millinea year game of telephone and kind of makes no sense now. The actual real dude's name would have been pronounced something more like Yeshua, and all these people 2000 years later now refer to the guy as Geezhus and Heyzeus; if you went back in time and said "what's good Jesus?", guy would be like wtf you talking about? Might as well just call him Teenjus.

I assumed they were believers in some form. I like how part of their Christian hypocrisy is that the Gemstones and their circle seem to be more progressive than the form of Christianity they preach implies. They will kick the swinging pastor couple off their streaming service for appearances. But nobody gives a gently caress that Kelvin is dating Quieth, or that Judy and BJ lived in sin and got shotgun married by Prince Eric, unless they can use said knowledge to snipe at each other because they are all petty bitches who live for drama.

You save that piss for my chest, Judy Gemstone.

Young Jesse is absolutely perfect for Late Teens Danny McBride.

Yeah I have to know where they found that guy. So loving perfect. The kids are all great really.

I doubt it would ever happen but I do think about if there’s enough meat on the bone for a Gemstone prequel series.

I was really hoping that Lori was not after the Gemstone money, but it’s even worse. She doesn’t want money necessarily, she wants what Aimee-Leigh had. It’s still possible she has some sort of change of heart but I don’t know.

Kid Kelvin is a bit weird, but it's probably tough for a child that age to understand and act like a younger version of an adult. But the guy that plays Jesse is fuckin bang on. If you told me Danny McBride ADR'd in the dialog, I'd believe it, his portrayal is perfect.

With how fixated Cobb was on the bible, I wonder if he is somehow related to original preacher who owned it. There's no real throughline for him to have orchestrated this whole thing, but maybe over time he noticed that bible and it resembled one he knew his family used to have that was once stolen by a conman/thief. I think it would at least be somewhat interesting if the lines crossed in a way like that.

I don’t think he was fixated on it necessarily. It was the most interesting thing he stole, so it would be logical for him to check it out. I actually have to wonder if that bible changed his life as it did for Elijah back in the civil war. Maybe he’s not a bad guy now? We don’t necessarily know if he is the one who hosed with Lori’s house.

I could be 100% wrong. I just hope we get to see Rooker do some interesting poo poo because he’s really good at doing the emotional bits as well as the menacing scary dude stuff.

I actually don’t think that’s the way they’re taking the plot. It looks like Cobb is going to be the guy that’s been terrorizing Lori’s new partners and the Gemstones are just caught in the crossfire now that she’s dating Eli. The idea of the widow or widower and the best friend of the deceased finding love through their mutual adoration of the one who’s gone isn’t uncommon.

Making Lori a gold digger sort of justifies the kids’ lovely attitudes and I don’t think the show will take that route.

I think she was a good person, but clearly she raised rotten, disrespectful children who can’t get along. She’s personally a great friend and super charming.

I think she was probably a good person, but maybe acted in a way that made some people think she was fake or maybe making herself the center of attention. When they were recording the song, Aimee-Leigh was doing most of the singing and Lori was mostly just harmonizing. Maybe that's what they wanted, but maybe Lori could have seen that has Aimee-Leigh taking up the spotlight of the song. Or maybe I'm looking into it too much and Jennifer Nettles is a professional singer who plays characters that are singers, and Megan Mullaly is an actress who is also good at singing.

I did enjoy the Karaoke party. It reminded me of playing karaoke revolution with my friends and family and having to listen to my brother sing that other 3 doors down song over and over again. Kelvin is trying so hard but nobody cares and is just waiting for their turn.

I love the handwriting in that book with Abel’s name crossed out and all the other signatures with their different G’s. Eli doesn’t even use cursive.

Thinking about Teenjus…I haven’t read the new testament. Isn’t most Jesus’s teenage and young adult life skipped in it? Was Uncle Baby Billy inspired to write this because of his non relationship with Harlan and just masked it with bible stuff? Bible Bonkers seemed to be inspired by their shared love of family feud.

I LOVE SEEING DEAD BABIES ON 𝕏, THE EVERYTHING APP. IT'S WORTH IT FOR THE FOLLOWING TAB.
I assume Aimee-Leigh is remembered so fondly by the kids because she was great when she was around but wasn't around a whole lot because of her career. I could be forgetting things from past episodes but I don't recall her even having a particularly meaningful connection in a scene with one of the kids, which isn't to say she didn't love them, but Eli was the more available and open parent (but probably also neglectful which is why his kids are shits).

Jesus only has one Biblical account as a kid, where he knew more about scripture than the teachers and taught them. It's basically hes born, that, then it skips to him as a adult making water into wine and going in the desert and being tempted by Satan.

I thought the gator man just took the Bible because it looks valuable, but the crossed-out name before Elijah Sr might inspire him to do some look-um-ups in the hopes of maybe blackmailing the Gemstones?

I don't think Rooker is going to do any look 'em ups. And I like the idea that *we* know the story of that bible even if the other characters don't.

I don't think there's anything more to it than he took it because it was a gold plated bible encased in glass. Given that it was over twenty years prior, I'm guessing he didn't actually try bribing anyone with it.

When it comes to Aimee Leigh, again I just think it's this idea that she's this light in everybody's life. She looks out for her friend, she holds the family together, she's usually the one who has to be the smiling public face of the Gemstones.

Yeah

The through line of the entire series is coping with and moving on from a profound loss, there’s no value in making Aimee Leigh terrible

It's been so long since I watched the earlier seasons, was Kelvin always so openly portrayed as being gay? It's been a while since I've seen the earlier seasons, but it always seemed more ambiguous as to whether he was gay or not until he finally officially started a relationship with Keefe. Him lusting after hot hunks in the teen magazines seemed kind of out of place to me.

The entire structure of the show makes no sense if Aimee Leigh is actually terrible. Like, I'm baffled that years and multiple seasons later there's still people referencing that vague "some people said she wasn't so nice" by the sleazy reporter in S2 as some kind of hint there's a dark secret behind Aimee Leigh, instead of the much more obvious explanation that it was just a baiting comment made by a sleazy reporter to try and get Eli on his back foot, and if it was anything it was probably referencing normal poo poo you can infer without needing any further detail (which is why there's never any "My god, what could he be talking about" reflection on anyone's part in response to it).

Besides, there's nothing particularly unrealistically rose-colored about her in the flashbacks/text anyway. She's not portrayed as a saint; She's a talented, charming woman who's Eli's partner in this vast pseudo-criminal enterprise. She did the Y2K buckets, she's putting pressure on the local government, she literally helped build the compound/amusement park defended by armed guards. She feels vaguely bad about some of it when confronted with the incongruity, but clearly not that much. She's also a loving partner, a supportive friend, and a kind mother to her kids. Swap singing out for competition shooting and she's roughly equivalent to Amber on some kind of objective scale. But her significance to the story and characters is not what she meant to the world at large or if she was really a sainted figure (because the show never pretends she was), it's what she meant to her family and how these deeply flawed people (who, notably, much like the Gemstones ministry are not presented as being any morally better pre-Aimee Leigh's death than they are after it) find ways to grow in her absence, maybe even in ways they wouldn't if they hadn't lost her.
