This has been discussed on Discord a bit, but I figure it's time to start formalising plans.

I'm coming to the States next year for an AA convention in Detroit. The convention is over the 4th of July weekend, so my plan is to head south afterward and visit DC to sample the museums.
I have a bit of a boner for history, and while I'm no McNally, I'm reasonably familiar with the Civil War.
So, the idea is for a few of us to meet up and go to Gettysburg with McNally and be awkward as gently caress irl.
You may also be aware that I'm a bit of a meat master, so I would love to stuff all my meat into all your mouths, so.... if anyone would consider hosting an awkward group of weirdos and has a bbq they can let me use, I say we have a feed and a drink or two afterwards.

Also bring all your dogs, that I may pat them.

So at this point it'd probably be looking like the 11th July weekend.
If I'm gonna be smoking I generally need about a 24 hour period to do things the way I like them, so IDK, maybe we do dinner the Friday night then go to Gettysburg on the Saturday or something.

If you would like to meet up with the forum kiwi, now's your chance!

A year to plan is too much time for the military to decide to send me somewhere. Let me know the day before so they don't have time to do that.

I can't volunteer to host (not until the date gets closer and I can talk it over with the wife), but I live a short drive from the battlefield and wouldn't mind meeting Goons.

I'm sure you're aware, but Gettysburg is a fairly small town, and 4 July weekend has a super nice reenactment every year. It's going to be crazy crowded, just a warning in case that bugs you.

Yeah, that was why I went with the 11th, or is it still gonna be stupid?

Its a ways out for sure, but I might be able to aid in logistics in some capacity. Google Maps would probably have you take the PA Turnpike to 15 South, so I'd probably be like 10 minutes out of the way, but I do live on the south side of Harrisburg.

e: Actually, Google Maps has you get off the Turnpike earlier than I thought and go up and over the ridge. Interesting.

Come back in 2024 when we have another good total eclipse. It's going to be from like, Louisiana to Michigan. I'll be in southern Illinois somewhere in the Shawnee National Forest for it.

Weirdly, I met some aussies at the last one 2 years ago south of Jackson Hole. And a chill mormon.

I have huge doubts I could make it to Pennsylvania next July though.

Bike week.

Edit: that week Gettysburg is going to be overwhelmed with motorcycles, the battlefield won't be affected much but moving around town will be a nightmare.

Flights are booked. Landing in Boston on the 23rd June, will do some top secret sneaking around and make my way there sooner or later.
I fly home from LAX on the 23rd July. I don't really have a concrete plan, but I've got ten days to get over there. I may fly direct from DC to Vancouver or something and then make my way down from there.

I need to re-do GiPMore and take Joe off. For the badge, please think in terms of images that work well as stencils or vector images. We can get into the actual details of color later but keep it simple, three tones at most. Basically you get your pick of silkscreen (white or black), mask (green, red, black, yellow, purple, bare), and immersion (basically silver or gold as the color).

Fingerguns is something I've stenciled before but if somebody could come up with a simple two or 3 tone stencil [islands are OK!] that would help.
