Let's hypothetically say a guy I know is sick of getting owned by XIM users and seeing my his teammates out perform him with them all of the time. Has Anyone tried the mouse/move nav controller combo? Because he is kind of starting to think that if you can't beat them join them, but he loving hates using a keyboard to play games despite liking the mouse aspect of it. Also, do they come with that mouse packed in or is that just some mouse XIM is plugging?

Just to be clear. I can go totally wireless with it right? I can use a wireless mouse and not have to plug in a nav controller?

poo poo. Yeah I gotta admit this is starting to look pretty appealing. I mainly just can't stand wires or keyboards and it seems like the new XIM makes it a painless non issue.

Also, I read that as Apex Legends has BT from Titanfall in it now and I was like "Woah I gotta reinstall that dumb game asap"

Thoughts after about 3.5 hours.

-Shooting feels fantastic. It's so viscerally satisfying. I honestly can't think of a game that has a better feel to the guns
-movement is also fantastic. It's a really nice middle ground between weightier stuff like Siege and faster stuff like COD and TF2. Feels deliberate without being cumbersome.
-Sound effects are also great
-I like the art direction. It's a breath of fresh air after how wacky COD has been for a while. Gives me light MGS vibes.
-Graphics are fine. No complaints at all but other than the lighting being somewhat better it looks pretty much like any COD
-positional sound is awful. They really need to work on that because the audio can be super misleading.
-2v2 is actually a lot of fun as long as you have someone to play with. It seemed dumb at first but I will definitely play this mode although I wouldn't make it my main thing.

I'm delighted that shotguns are viable primaries again. Although the double-barrel variants seem to be wildly inconsistent, played a round last night where I shot a guy in the face from about 6 feet away and he was somehow able to kill me with a pistol, then on the next round I got 1-shotted from basically across the map. The pump shotgun gives me MW2 SPAS vibes though. The 2v2 mode does absolutely nothing for me but I'm looking forward to playing the beta.

So far my thoughts on shotguns are that the pump shotgun absolutely owns bones, I can't stand that scoped shotgun and the double barrel is too inconsistent but fun when it lands.

To make microtransactions more consumer friendly they'd need to put in more work than any AAA has shown me they are willing to put in, i.e making it so I feel like my money isn't completely wasted. Until then, just keep it totally inconsequential to the gameplay and I will neither bitch about them or buy them. BLOPS 4 has never had me even remotely tempted to spend real money o (I only play Blackout though. I guess some guns are paywalled in MP?). Like, everything you can actually buy in BLOPS is so unbelievably lame I just don't give a flying gently caress if I'm not playing enough that week to get through the tiers.

At least Battlefield paywalls really cool looking unique skins, which is way more tempting. Too bad they are so comically, obscenely overpriced at $10-$15 a pop it completely ruins it.

Did anyone else feel like the killcams/deaths in this were actually like, good? Possibly the first time in COD history where I would die and watch the killcam and consistently be like “yup I hosed that up” instead of “RU loving serious?!” Half of the time.

Playing a bunch of regular BLOPs 4 multi this week for the first time in ages, and it’s just so goddamn bad. It triples down on everything I don’t like about COD and Modern Warfare cannot come soon enough.

veni veni veni
Jun 5, 2005

The core mechanics of BLOPS 4 are good. I love blackout and that's what I've spent 95% of my time playing. I actually wish I liked the MP more because because the shooting is great, but I think Killstreaks have hit the point where it's such a shitshow it pretty much ruins the game if you aren't on the winning team and tbh I hate the whole hero/specialist thing. I also think the aesthetic is butt ugly.

This is the first Call of Duty I've actually put more than a few hours into since MW2. I usually rent them and play them for a weekend so it's not like I'm dumping 1000s of hours in every year and just bitching about them. Everything about Modern Warfare is more appealing to me. I wouldn't have even bought blops if it wasn't for the Blackout beta. MW on the other hand looks like a full package that I am interested in front to back and the shooting just feels god tier to me and it looks nice as hell.

At first I was really hoping MW would have Battle Royale, but I'm realizing that lately I am getting absolutely burnt out on the genre and want to play shooters where I get to shoot things more than once every 25 minutes again. I'm kind of glad it's not gonna be in there tbh.

veni veni veni
Jun 5, 2005

I'm cool with that. I just want to take a breather and play some regular shootmans for a while. Maybe when it actually comes out I'll be in the mood. Everyone who plays BLOPS 4 only plays Blackout now so I end up playing almost nothing but that even though I'm spent on it.

I am just soo sick of that loving map good lord.

I am worse at this game than any MP game I have ever played and I seriously have no fuckin idea why. I even played the alpha for like 6 hours, loved it and consistently did really well in the 2v2 mode. I've also played a bunch of BLOPS 4 lately and have been doing pretty well. But...like, all night I just did awful in this. Was last place in probably 60% of the games I played tonight. Terrible K/D. Just felt like people always had the drop on me, couldn't jive with the maps at all, tried to change up how I played repeatedly . I am just so goddamn bad at this game lol.

I like it though. it's fun. I just need to figure out what the absolute critical failure on my part is here. I feel like I'm playing it all wrong.Like I'm pacing myself totally wrong for it.

I think if they want to ditch the minimap, the game should have better audio and visual cues. The positional audio is not good and the return to browngray makes everything harder to see. Combine that with the map being gone and it feels like a more confusing experience IMO.

I honestly kind of love this game. It's kind of a mess right now and has some big issues but most of it seems like bugged out beta poo poo to me and I'm not gonna freak out about it when the game isn't even out.

I've bounced back and forth on a lot of core design stuff in it and warmed up to a lot of things I hated in the beginning.

The whole goon experience has been, weird...Not really the fault of goons, but honestly right now if you are playing in a full party this game is loving miserable atm because it matches you with the biggest sweatlords out there. Playing solo, or with a group up to 4 people is a wildly, and I mean loving wildly different experience. It goes from MLG hell to being matched with a bunch of normals. My KD goes from like .5 to 2 on average and we win 75% of the time. Also the general amount of salt in these big parties we've been running just makes everything miserable and unfun. I'm as guilty as anyone else of this but we get in these big parties and everyone is just so miserable and joyless. Goddamn.

On the flipside I've been playing with small goon parties a bunch and this game kicks rear end. It's just more relaxed, the matchmaking is far more forgiving and it's a lot of fun. I thought I hated HQ but I actually think it's pretty great when you aren't playing a bunch of twitch streamers. It's slowly becoming my favorite mode.

The visibility issue becomes a non issue once you've spent enough time playing. I honestly thought it was awful for the first few hours, but after a while I grew to appreciate that the lighting is actually good enough to effectively use shadows as cover. It fits with the overall more immersive experience I think they were going for and doesn't feel annoying to me now that I know what to look out for. The amount of times I get killed by an invisible man is negligible, but I frequently use shadows to spot people before they round corners or use shadows to escape. It's great.

I don't get complaints about it being browngray. I don't want it in every game but frankly I'm kind of tired of how colorful every game is these days. I'll take this aesthetic over blops 4 any day of the week.

In general really don't get all of the salt about this game. I think it's great. It's exactly what I wanted. Feels like a middle ground between COD and a tactical shooter.

Few things I don't like though.

-Claymores are stupid OP. And this is coming from someone who abuses the hell out of them. At the very least they should not be compatible with the extra lethal perk. two of them is too many and the maps are littered with claymores. UAVs should also permanently spot enemy claymore imo. The game should not be a minefield to the degree it is right now.
-2 places that can die in a tire fire are B in the middle eastern neighborhood level, and the second floor of the warehouse that overlooks the parking lot in the warehouse level. The former is an absolute clusterfuck and is balanced to favor one spawn over the other. The latter is just the campiest goddamn poo poo and it's way to hard to get rid of people camping up there.
-Spawns are awful. There needs to be some sort of protection of getting spawn killed by helicopters over and over. Spawn killing in general is the worst I've ever seen.

Those are really my only complaints atm other than obvious bugs like the broken party system and stuff in the menus being hosed up.

I tried to go back to BLOPS 4 after the beta and I can't even do it. Just feels like total rear end by comparison. I'll still probably play Blackout some, but I just totally lost interest in the multi and I was sort of on a kick before the beta. Not that BLOPS gameplay is even bad I just prefer MW to such a ridiculous degree it completely soured me on it and I never want to touch it again I think.

Jesus that dude missed the point of this game.

I feel like they read my mind with what I've been wanting, by slowing COD down and making the gameplay a bit more thoughtful, without killing the momentum that makes COD fun. Game isn't perfect but I think ideas behind it are great and is something that will probably resonate with the shooter market even if there's a lot of bitching right now.

Most importantly, I think MW really has it's own identity in a series that has just been ripping off other franchises for years. To me it feels like "this is call of duty" vs "hey guys COD has X thing from that other game you might like" for the first time in like a decade.

Ground War is a sad, pale imitation of battlefield. Ironically it was the thing I was most looking forward too, but I love most of the regular modes and think Ground war is rear end.

Like, I guess I'm glad they put it in there and I'm gonna give it more time and maybe I'll change my mind, but as it stands I don't think COD is cut out for this. Battlefield 5 is a mess but I'd still play it over GW any day of the week for this kind of experience.

I like NVG too but I can't even really put my finger on why because for the most part it's just the normal game but green. It definitely kind of slows the pace into something a little more tactical though. My only complaint is that there is basically no incentive to ever pull the goggles off when the whole point of the game mode should be juggling when to use the NVG.

It's a good idea and pretty fun but they should flesh out why NVG actually matter more.
