A boombox is not a toy!

I was underwhelmed by the show, which makes me sad:

- I don't want Punk in AEW, but then was bummed when he didn't show despite all the "signs". At least let MJF come out to Cult of Personality ffs.
- Star Trek cosplay in a blood feud
- Dire women's division
- Dark Order just not working
- Moxley was sorely missing
- Crowd didn't seem hot at all

This show felt like they have the first 3-6 months of TV planned and were holding back, even with AA and LAX surprises. Jericho as champ is fine - I'm irrationally angry at him for having the belt, which means I have an emotional attachment and a reason for someone to kick his rear end.

For all the gripes I had, the men's tag team division is straight fire now. Holy poo poo what a roster.

They would have made me happy, but I guess Tony isn't thinking about my feelings.

It stuck out to me in a handful of spots that were really loving cool and the crowd reaction was tepid, which seemed weird for Chicago and on the big PPV before TV debut.

I'm not WWE brain worms on this, I just turned it off and thinking "yeah, that was good", which was disappointing because I had been considerably more hype for the previous shows. I'm probably in the minority on this, I suppose.

Also the women's division isn't bad. It's just the westerners that are bad. The Joshi are not a separate division, and they are not bad.

As poorly produced as the battle royale was, I felt a little better about the division coming out of it than going in. Britt/Bea seems like itll be a hot feud going into TV, and enough of the non-roster (Swole, Mercedes) & previously announced but unused people (Sadie & Penelope) interested me enough where the division doesnt feel as thin assuming they come out of it with a couple signings.

I do think the womens division suffered the most from the Taco Bell mix and match booking of the same ingredients for the DoN thru All Out run of shows.

Yeah, there were a number of women in the battle royal that impressed me. I don't know who any of them are because the format was so stupid though!

You would think the people they produced artwork or video for and the Joker would have long term commitments lined up, but based on the booking it didnt seem like Piper/Ivelisse were there to do more than get to 21. At least Jazz got to be part of the faceoff spot.

I think I would have been disappointed if I'd paid 65 dollars for that show, but was very ok with 25.

I'll be shocked if the woman they had come out as their joker was not signed to the company long term. Mercedes is very good and I hope she sticks around.

Also smiling at people fawning over the triple threat spots because that match was 90% Darby, havok, and janela getting their regular indie spot poo poo in (the skateboard, the paper cuts, the chair flip, etc.). I think it speaks well that AEW had the foresight to just put that match on and let them do their spots.

For people who watched both, what was better, All Out or the Takeover show? I don't follow WWE so it would just be people I don't care about wrestling, but some people are saying it was great.

depending on your opinion of UK wrestling style, Cardiff's tag match and main event may eclipse the matches from all out, and it was a fairly good tight show I think.

but yeah royal quest was easily the best full show in a vacuum yesterday.

Hm. I think I have reverse WWE brain worms because I'm actually kind of mad to hear NXT might have been a better show. Which is silly. If All out was the third best show on Aug 31, that's really saying something about the quality of wrestling right now. I really dug All Out, and looking forward to RQ showing up on world. I'm having trouble imagining anything eclipsing the ladder match on All Out.

The guy who was screaming at Jericho about being fat was a couple rows behind me and everyone around him popped when Jericho told him to gently caress off and flexed. It was loving embarrassing. Just like wrestling itself when the fans are good they're really good but when they're bad they're the worst thing in existence.

AEW's hype is kind of it's own worst enemy, cause everyone is analysing and expecting something enormous for months between events then getting let down when they get a good wrestling show instead of a lifechanging one. in retrospect i think All Out was probably on the same level as Double or Nothing, but DoN had the advantage of nobody knowing what AEW was going to be before they went in so there were no expectations. even if some matches weren't particularly stellar at All Out, everything is setting something up or moving a plot forward which is a loving godsend after 15 years of WWE, and the good matches really, really shined. once TV starts there will be a much better idea of what AEW is and what they're trying to do with talent and stories week by week. then we can determine whether it was indeed, always bad

i'm incredibly excited for Kenny's redemption arc with Moxley, that's gonna be one of the stand out things in 2019/2020. also more PAC because he's an incredible heel. infact everything is exciting: Orange Cassidy is gonna be huge, Cody is a superstar already and is gonna be doing southern wrasslin' drama blood feuds in 2020, tag team scene is just universally great and the tournament is gonna rule, and the Womens scene should really pick up once the champion is crowned. here's hoping they don't gently caress it up

I'm just a fan of wrestling and I'll admit I have a bias towards WWE but I enjoyed the hell out of that show and I do not see how anyone who likes wrestling in 2019 could be let down by it, admittedly it lacked in storyline progression but I assume they want a pretty clean slate for that with the TV show coming in a matter of weeks to try and hook as many new fans as possible.

Chris James 2

I definitely feel I got my money's worth, out of this and out of Double Or Nothing. I still feel I would have been fine paying for Fyter Fest and Fight For The Fallen, but the two events so far I've had to actually pay for, they more than delivered in terms of quality imo

If I have to do it again in November for Full Gear, I trust the card for that will be worth it too

And TV time will provide more build for stories (in terms of sheer time devoted to it) than BTEs and Road Tos have provided so far for each event

inconsequential

Was in the crowd from Cincy and it was a great show live. Its hard to say the matches that were most dead (Dark Order/Best Friends, Joshi match) were somehow indicators, especially for Dark Order, of those people not being over. I can tell you, the vodka lemonades were lemonade heavy and vodka light, so by the DO/BF match, people just had to go. I think this an argument for actually having one or two well placed moments to let the audience get up without fear theyre going to miss something.

Non wrestling notes: Sat next to two proto-goobers who smelled like BO, bad breath, AND cigarette smoke who were making ironic jokes the entire time and hypothesizing CM Punk would come out during the ladder match.

There was a guy in the upper bowl escorted out by a shitload of cops, he seemed barely able to stand. I suspect he threw up all over the floor because the whole row had removed themselves and a man eventually showed up with a mop. This was during PAC/Omega, anybody live near that mess?

Also, I thought the National Anthem was cool, if just for everybody was into it, nobody was screaming out tryhard ironic bullshit, and people reacted huge to the pyro.

Overall a great experience live, great show, Jericho is GOAT
