Maybe not for the users but lowtax apparently lied about secret service visits.

Not entirely true. FOIA requests are an artform, and the request submitted was nowhere near as detailed as it should have been to get a result. They're just going to look for exactly what you send in. They aren't going to give you near matches or aliases unless you specifically ask for those variants. To do a truly exhaustive search, you're gonna have to spend money on it.

Yea, a lot of companies are just saying "We ship worldwide, except for the UK" now. Apparently it's like 1k to file the paperwork to have the privilege to sell to the UK, and then you have a bunch of other forms to fill out and prepay before you can send stuff. It's batshit.

At least, it's batshit for anyone who was born post EU or has done business overseas. There were a few celebs online talking on twitter about having to stop selling to the UK cause of the various weird fees the shops have to pay to get the ok to send stuff, back when the new rules and regs kicked in.

From what I gather, brexit is basically the UK going "I'm gonna stick my dick in this hornet's nest!" and a slim majority said "loving DO IT" with most thinking "He won't do it just because I said so." and then they did do it, even though they didn't have to.

LawfulWaffle posted:

The article lays out the VAT issue fairly well. UK government decided that a high VAT tax and courier fees would help remove competition from UK businesses while also collecting fees from imports to get 300m to fund vital services. Only in practice imports are going way down so what you have is a UK locked into buying their own products and a much smaller amount of import fees being collected than expected. Coupled with border issues and an increasing weak platform to deal from England has effectively built its own Berlin Wall and is going to be frozen out until they fold and beg to go back to the EU. Sucks for the other parts of the UK that got roped into the decision, I’m sure Ireland is thrilled.

For people that want some numbers, to make up for the 20% VAT, anyone exporting to the UK must raise prices by 25% from what they were previously. The registration paperwork is around a thousand pounds per year on top of additional costs when filing and paying taxes. A lot of retailers don't think it's worth the hassle because they'll lose a lot of sales because of the 25% increase in prices thus further driving down any profit that could be made.

Rockman Reserve posted:

an important thing people are missing in their explanations is that when you short sell a stock (i.e. expect it to go down) you have absolutely no cap on your losses

if you buy a stock all you can lose is the money you invested in the stock to begin with, at absolute maximum

if you short sell a stock and suddenly a bunch of redditors make it cost 15 times what you originally bought in for, suddenly you are on the hook for 15 times what you actually invested in the first place

since losses are uncapped it means lenders are VERY aggressive about calling in debts quickly when it becomes apparent that a held short position is going to cost more in assets than the borrower actually has - the lender does not want to be the one left holding the bag when the dust clears

To expand on this a bit, since your losses are unlimited, you'll be required to have a margin account. When your margin account dips below maintenance levels because your losses have started adding up, you're either required to top off your account OR you're forced to close your position.

The hedge fund yesterday got forced to close their positions, which is done by buying shares on the market, which further drives up the price.

It's 7 years for 10 counts of possession, and yes, he is in state prison in Florida for his offenses. It was found out on accident by florida goons, and I confirmed it.

The only thing publicly viewable is his sentence status and the arrest affidavit. The arrest affidavit describes the images he had open on his computer and the ones he uploaded to imgur (who reported him to local authorities). Many of the girls in the images are described as under 10 years old. It was not a pleasant read.

Court hearings are typically public. Whenever courts are back open, if you want to watch, you can just go and sit in the pews all day and observe. They might ask why you're there. Just tell them you're a curious citizen who has never watched court. The staff will probably be friendly to you if you are friendly to them. Dress business casual and don't interrupt.

Daily the duty judge(s) will hold morning first appearances for people arrested since the previous FA. These are usually routine, involve the state describing the probable cause for the arrest, the judge determining if PC exists, and setting bond/release conditions (if any). They'll fly through these pretty quickly.

For routine work, judges will have a criminal or civil docket (that is public) that will detail their schedule. A good chunk of the criminal docket is either case management or pre-trial conferences. These are also extremely routine and a judge can knock out dozens or more in a hour. Prior to these beginning, there will be numerous lawyers hanging around to get their 2-3 minutes of facetime for their cases in front of that judge before they go to the next courtroom to see another. They usually will knock out special hearings after the case management dockets.

Civil cases are usually only in front of a judge on a motion hearing and those will be stacked up just like the rest. Many are only a few minutes long. Some can take hours or days.

Most of what happens in the court is pretty boring. You might find it interesting or be present on the day some crazy poo poo happens, though.

Beato Believer posted:

I have driven the exact interchange shown in the TxDOT video. I can answer your question for this specific interchange. You simply can't drive straight to get from A to B. You MUST turn left or right from the access road onto the cross road (in this case, University Blvd.), then find somewhere further down to turn the gently caress around, drive back to the interchange, and turn again onto the access road.

Now I was there last three or four years ago, so they might have added lanes or something in the meantime, but from the maps others have referenced it doesn't look like it. I figured the IKEA store there paid TxDOT to do it that way, to force innocent drivers into the unending maze that is IKEA, never to be heard from again.

Edit: now, about a mile before you'd get to A (south of A in your drawing), they split the access road so one lane goes beneath the entire interchange, and then it joins back to the access road north of B. But if you're already at A, which means you're in those shopping areas, well I hope you at least find some cheese in your maze wanderings.

Clearly what is needed is an overpass for the access roads.

FFXIV originally came out in 2010, but that version of the game was awful and killed forever in August 2013 with the launch of 2.0. While there have been tweaks to the game since the 2.0 rewrite, it is still essentially the same game.

WoW has been around since 2004, so it has 6-9 years on FFXIV depending on whether you want to count original launch or relaunch. I'm not sure if WoW has had such a dramatic overhaul as FFXIV did from 1.0-2.0.
