#1 in my heart and my best friend for ever & ever: Katsuyori Shibata (and if he actually has a match before this thread closes, JeRu please insert him into #1 and bump out Mox who will probably get staph again from sleeping in a Tokyo dumpster or whatever dumb poo poo he does when not wrestling) 1. Minoru Suzuki 2. Zack Sabre Jr. 3. Shingo Takagi 4. WALTER 5. Daisuke Sekimoto 6. Tetsuya Naito 7. Timothy Thatcher 8. Cesaro 9. Orange Cassidy 10. Jon Moxley

1. Cesaro - My absolute favorite even though I know he will never get his due 2. Tomohiro Ishii - Most consistent high level performer in the business 3. Daniel Bryan - Pretty much the only reason I kept watching when I started watching again in like 2012 4. Minoru Suzuki - Needs no explanation 5. WALTER - Best big guy in the business, love his in ring style 6. L.A. Park - Mainly off nostalgia from him playing chair guitar when I was 12 7. Zach Sabre Jr - I like submission specialists and socialism 8. Samoa Joe - All around great, probably the best promo in WWE currently 9. Kevin Owens - Consistently entertaining even though most of what he's been given is dogshit 10. PAC - Best high flyer in the business and actually interesting now that he's not in WWE

10. Kyle O'Reilly Out of the current crop of NXT breakouts in the last 2 or so years, Kyle is my favorite. Watching him work his way into submissions from almost any angle is a whole lot of fun to watch and he edges out over guys like Gargano/Cole/ZSJ for me because of how great his striking can be. He's also got one of the most expressive faces in wrestling today 09. Sami Zayn Following the rules of active wrestlers only, I'm going to put Zayn on the list for his work in the indies and NXT more than anything else he's done on the main roster. Extremely charismatic and is part of probably my most watched matches of all time, the RDV Qualifier from CHIKARA's King of Trios also featuring Nick Jackson, Kota Ibushi, and Jigsaw. 08. ASUKA (DDT) I heard about ASUKA previously just on merit of being an openly transgender wrestler but I hadn't really seen anything of her until the middle of this year when I got DDT Universe. She's had so many memorable matches and she's one of the most athletic people on my list, making flips and transitions look so smooth and effortless. If you haven't seen it, I HIGHLY recommend looking up her "Light Tube Death Match" with Akito in DDT Pro where the first one to break the single light tube in the match is declared the loser. 07. Chris Jericho Jericho's been able to re-invent himself over and over again and stay completely relevant and over at every single stage of his over 20 year career. He's the type of guy who can turn any kind of gimmick into gold and while he hasn't had amazing matches consistently this late in his career, he's still one of the most entertaining guys to watch outside of the ring. 06. Jiro "Ikemen" Kuroshio Ikemen is a very pretty boy who's entrance ritual consists of teasing getting into the ring for a full 4 minute song, doing flips through the ropes and summersaults through the ring. You need to experience this guy's entrance at least once in your lifetime. He's also a pretty fun to watch wrestler. 05. Asuka (WWE) Suffering from the same kind of issues almost everyone in the WWE does after getting called onto the main roster, I'm still a huge fan of hers from more than 10 years ago when I first saw her with Mio and Io Shirai. She's always been fun to watch in the ring and her NXT Women's title reign is one of my favorite reigns of all time. 04. Pentagon 03. Daniel Bryan 02. Kazuchika Okada 01. Kota Ibushi I don't need to convince anyone or justify who my top 4 are, everyone knows who they are.

This is a very current list 1. Slex - He's the business 2. Shawn Spears - I kind of liked his old character, but this one is super compelling. He had a super entrance at All Out. 3. Chris Jericho - Le champion. 4. Scorpio Sky - He sung That thing you do on a youtube thing and now I like him. 5. Kenny Omega - I never really understood the hype but then I saw him just eviscerate Moxley in a video and then V trigger the hell out of PAC and he's pretty cool now. 6. Tenille Dashwood - Also pretty cool 7. Cody Rhodes - The builds to all of his matches are really compelling, and the matches usually are too 8. MJF - Very entertaining douche 9. Robbie Eagles - gently caress Will Ospreay 10. Awesome Kong - She was around when I first started watching wrestling and was cool then and is cool now.

It would be impossible for me to not have him as my favorite wrestler.

1. Meiko Satomura - Absolutely incredible presence. AEW's joshi showcases must mean she shows up for a few dates there, right? Can't wait to see here tear it down with anyone they've got. I loved her match against Takeshita in the DDT vs. Sendai Girls show. 2. Pentagon Jr. - Lucha Underground got me into wrestling, and Pentagon absolutely made that first season for me. 3. Chris Jericho 4. Miyu Yamashita - TJPW basically kept me watching wrestling after I gave up on the WWE. 5. Yuka Sakazaki 6. MAO - Highlight of DDT for me, I hope he has a great excursion in the UK 7. Tetsuya Endo - I really like his title run in DDT and he's got an amazing look 8. Misao - Touching real-life story, fun heel run this year where she's really changed up her whole deal, her match against Jun Kasai is an all-time TJPW highlight 9. Luchasaurus 10. Cody Rhodes

I wish I could've included Miyu Yamashita, I love watching her work but she's got the presence of someone like Samoa Joe or Low-Ki and needs to be in a bunch of squash matches but TJPW is so small that it's not really feasible to have her just KO someone 2 minutes into a match. When she's in the ring with someone as good or better than her, she's amazing but she has a really hard time carrying anyone worse than she is so matches with Maki Itoh end up being kind of stale/slow when they take turns on offense.

1. Jon Moxley - Mox's reinvention of himself as he goes to NJPW and AEW has me more excited than anything else in years. Basically the minute he got out of the WWE system he got novahot and it rules. When he comes back from surgery it's gonna be hype as gently caress. 2. Daniel Bryan - I got back into wrestling after like ten years because of DBry. I hadn't watched anything since the week Triple HHH crawled into a casket and humped a mannequin but you know what? Bryan got me to overlook that. Finally getting to see him live after so many times where he had to be scratched was an absolute joy. 3. Kenny Omega - The perfect foreign heel for NJPW and a great top guy in AEW, he's also responsible for helping me onboard several of my friends who are into fighting games to wrestling because they already know who he is. 4. Kazuchika Okada - Pretty much the perfect face for Omega to be a foil to and the other half of one of the best rivalries in years. On the other hand, did not help me get friends to watch wrestling so I put him below Omega. 5. Chris Jericho - An all-time great who can get anything over, no matter how dumb. He's got a Bowie-like talent for reinventing himself and I respect the hell out of that. Also I think he's the last of the WCW wrestlers to be an active wrestler for a major company? 6. Kota Ibushi - An incredible athlete and one of the few people who genuinely excel as a white-meat babyface (the hardest thing to be!) 7. Kevin Owens - I respect the ever-living gently caress out of KO's dogged insistence on giving his all to get every feud he's in over. I also really enjoy the way he carries himself in the ring and whenever he talks trash to the audience. 8. Velveteen Dream - I've thought Dream was a star since his matches with Black where he basically was fighting a one-sided I Quit match. The way he lives his character at all times is awesome and I think he's got a bright future if they let him have one. 9. Cody - I've always liked Cody but thought that he was gonna be a guy like Orton who has too much of the WWE style to ever work outside the system. I'm glad he proved me wrong, he was willing to bet on himself and it paid off. 10. Kikutaro - Because I saw him live at an indie show with like 50 other people and he started the match by telling the ref that his entire fighting style was dick-punch-based so don't DQ anyone for it. I respect his belief in living and dying by the sword.

PAC I've mostly not been interested in wrestling for the past year+ and I've mostly just watched the big events and some random stuff. List might look very different at any given moment, I don't have a true favorite wrestler and almost anyone could jump up at any given moment.

1) Chris Jericho: What more can be said? Always relevant, constantly great, probably has aged better than most if not all his contemporaries. Effortless character work, great ring ability even now, the GOAT. 2) Pentagon Jr: Can hold a crowd in the palm of his hand. Amazing charisma, incredibly cool look, exceptional lucha style, death defying in singles and tag wrestling. I love him. 3) Will Ospreay: An absurdly gifted guy who is unfairly talented and makes every move look easy as gently caress. Started as a big goofus but over time it seems like he's made amends for acting like a dickwad and is more aware of his mental issues. Has even more room to grow as a wrestler and a person, sky is the limit. 4) Kota Ibushi: Still unbelievable and fearless after all these years. Should get the big belt at some point in his life because christ he is a modern Michelangelo in the ring and always part of classic matches. 5) Aleister Black: Unique look and personality, has a cool as gently caress aesthetic i.e. silent Satanic warrior who does meditative poo poo but will gently caress you up with Muay Thai. Incredible presence and poise, sad as gently caress he is being wasted to poo poo in WWE. 6) Kenny Omega: Love all his work. Hard to find matches of his I haven't thought were fun. Intruiged to see what happens with his arc in AEW. Improving his character and promos now. Hoping to see the Cleaner again. 7) Velveteen Dream: The most interesting character WWE has produced in epochs, and a true character with a wrestling name for once. One of the most ridiculous gimmicks got massively over and he has the coolest loving style from his entrance music and outfits to his smooth NXT-style ringwork. Future megastar and I hope to god WWE doesn't gently caress him up. 8) Pete Dunne: A dunce irl but god I love his style/look. A powerhouse, a bulldog who can go from strong style to indie murderer, probably should be even more popular but remains to be seen how NXT uses him. 9) Jordynne Grace: Future of any women's division. Could have easily put Tessa here but I personally like Grace more, is a great person, Thick Momma Pump, does powerbombs for days. Improves constantly and is only 23. 10) Orange Cassidy: was gonna write a thing here but too lazy

1. Minoru Suzuki - I thought about this for a while, and honestly, I could've put any of the people in my top 5 in the number one spot, but after mulling it over again and again, I came to the conclusion that it has to be Minoru Suzuki. There is no one in the world who combines technical ability, speed, viciousness, a legitimately terrifying intensity, always consistent and brilliant characterwork and match psychology other than this guy. AND that's not even speaking of him doing all that at over 50 years old. It is absolutely astounding that Minoru has zero problems keeping up with people half his age, who could reasonably be expected to be faster, more agile and more intense than him. KAZE NI NARE!!! 2. Chris Jericho - Jericho has already been summed up here multiple times and I'm just going to echo them while adding that he was a childhood favorite of mine and last year-ish I came to the conclusion that when all is said and done, he might legit be the GOAT. I just hope he'll know when to retire from active in-ring competition, even if he has a few years left in the tank at this point. Let's enjoy the gloriously entertaining, chameleon-like bastard that is Chris Jericho for now, though! 3. Kazuchika Okada - literally the best in the world at pro wrestling, also a wonderful boy who makes me smile every time 4. Tomohiro Ishii - literally the best in the world at pro wrestling, also a stone cold badass who makes me go every time 5. Taichi - it might very well be that I rate Taichi higher as a reaction to people still dunking on him, but Taichi loving rules, and especially this year he's put in some amazing work. His offense is unique (for example the kicks instead of chops in the classic Japanese test of endurance spot) and his character work as the sneering, arrogant, lazy, cheating piece of poo poo is some of the best in the world. And the times when allows the multiple layers of his sleaziness to open to reveal the secret fire hidden deep in his black soul, like in his matches with Ishii, he proves he can also go with the best of them. He's able to draw me into a Naito match in a way no one else on the NJPW roster can. And, of course, you can't talk about Taichi without mentioning Miho Abe. She is Taichi's conscience and perfect angel who he knows will always believe in him, no matter what even if Taichi often ruthlessly uses her in his schemes. Taichi and Miho are simply one of the best pro wrestling acts currently going. 6. Zack Sabre Jr. - I know I'm in for a good time whenever I see my socialist vegan octopus. ZSJ always, always brings out a different side out of his opponents because his style is so unique. 7. Riho - Riho is sweet and wonderful and kicks rear end and I'm happy for her and her big break out year in 2019. I really hope she gets the spotlight she deserves in AEW for years to come. 8. Viktor Tykki - I wanted the final standings to have at least one Finnish name so I needed to choose my favorite from the FCF roster. I went with Viktor Tykki. Imagine a guy who has the body of Kevin Owens and just that aura of intensity like Samoa Joe, coupled with genuinely violent-looking, snappy offense and an excellent grasp of match psychology and his character. Also, he's only been active for a few years and is already in the top 3 wrestlers in this country. There are others like his eternal rival Shemeikka or Salomon Strid who are technically better, but I think this dude is the total package and could be a legit player in the pro wrestling industry if he were to break out of Finland. 9. SANADA - I feel like I've cooled down on SANADA quite a bit this year, mostly due to him being stuck in endless GoD matches and occasionally tending to be formulaic. You don't need to do the double split leap + dropkick combo and the Paradise Lock in every single match, you know. However, the matches with Minoru Suzuki and the G1 Okada match reminded why this dude is the future IWGP champ. People criticize him for lacking intensity and impactful offense, but when he gets to have a big match, you can't help but get sucked in. Also, 10. Shota Umino - also wanted to have an up-and-coming guy here. In my opinion Shota is the best the current crop of Young Lions New Japan has to offer and is going to be a big god drat deal down the road. I honestly can't wait for him to go on excursion and return to become a huge star. Man, this was a lot harder than I thought, and you really have to leave a lot of your favorites out. Last year around this time Tanahashi absolutely would've been on the top of the list, for example, and although he's still been brilliant, he's obviously not in great shape right now. He simply hasn't been the same since that Omega match at WK, unfortunately. Ospreay is also having an insane year of course and should be on everyone's list, but in the very end I still like all of the above people more, mostly because of their characters. There's plenty of others too, of course. a cyborg mug fucked around with this message at 12:42 on Sep 8, 2019 |

1) Bray Wyatt. Now here's a guy resisting every effort WWE can make to ruin a good thing. If he were anywhere *but* WWE which goes out of its way to ruin talent... 2) Fallah Bahh. This is the most underrated big guy in wrestling. Take Yokozuna, give him the ability to roll around the ring and sometimes do fat guy planchas to the outside. I'm glad he's getting more exposure in TNA nowadays (yeah yeah, it's TNA. Still, given he was very much an indy guy until like a year ago, I'll take it) 3) Chris Jericho. I think everything that could be said has been said 4) Mario Bokara. Bias, but I just like this indy dude a hell of a lot. Helps he's a ridiculously cool guy IRL. Also his entrance is *amazing* 5) Luchasaurus. He is a kung fu dinosaur man. Really now 6) Orange Cassidy 7) Velveteen Dream 8) Asuka 9) PAC 10) Jon Moxley

Here's my list, as someone who always lurks the discussion threads and keeps up to date with NJPW, AEW, and WWE news, but only picks matches/shows that seem interesting (shout outs to the MOTY thread) 1 - Okada Absolute greatest at creating drama, which to me is what's so great about wrestling. I've thinking about what makes him excellent at this and I think I've figured it out; it's the Rainmaker. It's not the flashiest move, or the craziest move, or even the most popping move, but it is a very recognisable and very counter-able move. Like you can get countered at the hip lock, the rip cord, the pull in, even taking the lariat itself, it just lends things to well to drama. And since the opponent is from the back, standing face to face, being pulled in (running), and being hit by a strike, it lends itself to many, many, many, many wrestler's moves. 2 - Jon Moxley Hasn't done much, but what's been done is compelling. Always been my fave in the SHIELD, which is probably my favourite stable too. Really surprised me when they first broke up and he became the face, and then I realised he had this grungy, idgaf feel that resonates so well. Absolute killer promos too, and great riffer. More than anything, when he's allowed to let loose, it seems like he has so much fun, and that's infectious. 3 - Daniel Bryan A guy who can work. Only seen him in WWE, and despite all the crippling storylines he's had, he's had my attention through all of it. Much better talker than he's given credit for, since he just seems to throw himself into everything 100%, for better or worse. Still feel like when him winning the title at Wrestlemania could absolutely have been a series finale for all of wrestling. 4 - Chris Jericho Possibly GOAT, always relevant, always reinventing himself. Even when the stuff he does isn't clicking, he knows how to reevaluate and get himself to where he needs to go. Isn't higher on the list because match-wise, he's not really cutting it for me, but that's more due to age, wear and tear, and that his new finisher doesn't...look great. Another great promo. 5 - SANADA I got on board when I saw h im do the interview before his title challenge vs Okada last year (or was it two years ago?). Like, I knew he didn't talk much, but it was then I realised that he's soft spoken, quietly confident, and introverted wrestler. Absolutely smooth moves, huge variation, can do lots of styles. Really dig his vibe. 6 - Taichi I'm really invested in this absolute scheming, shortcutting villain who seems to be naturally hot blooded. It's like two ends of the spectrum in one wrestler. Abe Miho's absolute faith in him adds so much to his matches too, there's a dichotomy that just works. It's like, he knows he can go, but he chooses not to, but also recognises that he seems to be at his best when he does go. Absolutely fascinating. 7 - Ishii Can drag a great match out of anybody. Absolute badass. The only reason he's not higher is that he doesn't seem to get much to do besides Have Great Matches. I do hope we see a bigger title run with him someday, whether it's intercontinental or, hopefully, IWGP world champion. 8 - ZSJ Love how unique his style comes across. The living embodiment of a glass cannon, it's like you know how he distributed his stats. Another great one for creating drama, as in NJPW all of his submissions are portrayed as possible finishers. Also does great, highly amusing promos. 9 - Velveteen Dream A cheesy gimmick that just works, with incredible entrances to boot. Also has consistently good to great matches, at least on Takeovers, and that counts for something. Right now probably the character I look forward to the most in WWE...but that could be the result of a "PPV only, sometimes" bias. 10 - Minoru Suzuki Meanness personified in a wrestler. I love how nasty he makes everything look, and how surprisingly crisp he is, despite his age. Only reason he's not higher is that he's not having enough high profile matches for the level of work he's putting in. My list for easy referencing: 1 - Okada 2 - Jon Moxley 3 - Daniel Bryan 4 - Chris Jericho 5 - SANADA 6 - Taichi 7 - Ishii 8 - ZSJ 9 - Velveteen Dream 10 - Minoru Suzuki

1. Lil' Kazu "The Skipper" Okada 2. Aja Kong 3. Tomohiro Ishii 4. Caristico 5. HARASHIMA 6. Barbaro Cavernario 7. Hirooki Goto 8. Chris Jericho 9. Jungle Kyona 10. Shingo Takagi The only things I'll write about is that Aja Kong might actually have a claim to be a Greatest Of All Time finalist, and that Goto is the most maliciously disrespected workers going today. The guy is a legitimate star maker. He makes every person he has a big match with look loving amazing. The most unselfish guy in the business doesn't deserve to be disrespected just because he's booked to lose. Also there are a handful of people working in the Big Trump Fundraiser who have meant a lot to me in my life but I haven't seen them in years so I more or less disqualified them (Roddy Strong, Chris Hero, Samoa Joe, Kyle O'Reilly, probably more).

NienNunb posted:Goto is the most maliciously disrespected workers going today. The guy is a legitimate star maker. He makes every person he has a big match with look loving amazing. He made my boys EVIL and Taichi look bad so I will never respect him.

1. Tomohiro Ishii - he has that Benoit-like aura of being an absolute threat to anyone on any given day, and the same ability to have night-in-night-out bangers. Also has a criminally underrated entrance theme. 2. Kota Ibushi - versatile and consistent. 3. Daniel Bryan 4. Kenny Omega - explosive pace and fantastic high impact offense. 5. Chris Jericho 6. Jon Moxley 7. Johnny Gargano 8. Becky Lynch 9. Minoru Suzuki 10. Will Ospreay
