Ok, bad phrasing on my part. Does anyone know if CIG have said they will do this?

A combination of what Chris Roberts was saying day one, DREAMS.TXT and you right now literally thinking more about the implementation and implication of this system than CIG ever has.

quote:

"Citizenship is a big deal in this universe," says Roberts. "Citizenship isn't your birthright. There's a little bit of Starship Troopers in there, but that in itself is modelled on the Roman system. You can win citizenship through military service, or you earn it through civic duties, or by becoming a merchant and buying it. That then opens up a new level of other things you can do in the galaxy."

....

Within the game, a full single-player campaign named Squadron 42 lurks. This Wing Commander-like option puts the player on the frontline of a battle along the edge of Earth territory, attempting to get into the eponymous unit – essentially, it's the French foreign legion of space. This can be attempted offline, but if you stay connected, friends can join in to be wingmen in key battles. When you complete it, you enter the persistent universe as an elite warrior, like a Navy SEAL: "and then you venture out into a Privateer-style world," says Roberts

To be fair to Star Citizen and the real start of development I wouldn't consider a studio lead by Chris Roberts to be engaged in game development.

And what's slated for Citizencon?

It's the Citizencon opening ceremony. The lights go out, it's pitch black. A full minutes passes and there is a stunned silence broken by a few coughs. Suddenly a spotlight appears on stage illuminating Chris Roberts in his favourite Steve Jobs turtleneck. The crowd goes wild, they have been waiting all year for this. Croberts gestures wildly in a attempt to quiet the crowd. Eventually they pipe down and Chris clears his throats and says two words: "The Aristocrats." He then runs off stage, collecting two ridiculously huge sacks of money and goes out a side exit. Sandi is waiting with the car running and they head straight to the airport and fly off to parts unknown on a private plane.

I looked at his video from yesterday, he had an hour and half of Star Citizen sandwiched by COD.

And his stream today is sitting around 20 viewers.

Civilization 1 had all these details in map generation in 1991. The end results of that was a map that had unlimited gameplay potential. River, ocean and mountain placement drastically altered the way a game would play out. With Star Citizen they have spent years on this and all it will be used is to fly over them when going between radiant quest objectives.

It's $3000 for one piece of content not in game. If someone spends $3000 on one game over 10 years, yeah that's still really high but it is within the realm of comprehension. They got X amount of content per year for 10 years and they got to play with their purchased content for 10 years. On a related note I'm really glad I gave up Hearthstone.

Not because we are constantly fudstering over here but this visual teaser is legit seriously yawn inducing and far from the impressive but fake visuals shown in previous years cons etc. It does not just disappoint for the obvious lack of actual gameplay but for the visuals themselves. Honestly, it is almost like CIG is not even trying anymore. Disappointed.

In 2005 at e3 Sony released a Killzone 2 gameplay trailer they claimed was running on a PS3. Which was clearly a pre-rendered video especially because Guerrilla Games had only just received the PS3 dev kits. A lot of people called bull on that. Same poo poo happened with Madden 06. Now this wasn't the first time game companies had pulled this poo poo but this was right at the point Internet video had gone mainstream and the term bullshot was created because of those videos so I had a little hope this had enough momentum to stop this in its tracks. Of course I was wrong, really wrong. The games weren't punished in sales for blatant lies and their franchises just got bigger and bigger. And game companies to this day keep putting out bullshots.

Gamers as a group are dumb. You can explain things to them but you can't understand it for them. They complain all year that the e3 trailers didn't match the games released and then when the next e3 comes around will blindly jumped back on the hype train. Pretty pictures will always trick gamers.

The cultist dream of a world filled with $300 million plus games is a legit nightmare world. Any ounce of creatively, uniqueness , style, flair or risk will be drowned out as only the most bland, trend chasing, corporate approved trash will be trusted with $300 million budgets. Also forget gay characters having more than a tertiary role in a game.
