Squadron 42 sales will be so high they will fund Star Citizen, even though nobody wants it and it's already included in the accounts of people who wanted SC, and it will have chapters with writing so incredible people will pay for each episode, even though Chris Roberts wrote it, and the PU is already several AAAA titles at once and worth $67,000 easy, but it's also all Tier-0 placeholders waiting for the pipelines to mature, welcome to the new thread old friend, where everything contradictory is true at the same time all the time, and the collapsing waveform that is actually downloading and playing the game reveals the scam in full glory in a matter of minutes, yet CIG finds refuge in audacity all in the name of Chris committing theft, fraud, breach of contract, and every other crime that has defined his existence ever since a blue pixel became a green one since it was a very small girl.

I personally love how many things they sold for the single player game that is going to be a cultural phenomenon to redefine gaming.

An on rails mission based space game with 3D cutscenes is super exciting to me!

Especially since CIG is so good at animation and doesn't at all look like janky poo poo in a box as soon as it starts to do more than stand still.

There's a reason it's a jpeg factory and not a gif factory.

I wonder if CIG really thinks their scrambling behind the scenes to delete all evidence of the breach of contract with Crytek will actually bear fruit. It's such a dangerous game to play, and missing a single piece can render a default judgement. Or worse. Then again, it's what Chris Roberts would do.

I expect nothing more than whatever they can do to ensure maximum cash. If that involves deleting everything they will do it, up to completely destroying the game itself.

After all, even CIG realizes at this point they are selling snake oil and pictures of snake oil. They don't actually care about any sort of complete project.

From the company that made a company based off of stealing artwork, the stuff their own customers do is also now being stolen.

It's a steal-ception the likes of which only a company so great could do!

I mean you'd think that they could easily log into their totally done alpha game and take their own screenshots, instead of have to waste time doctoring other people's screenshots.

But I guess that involves actually playing the game. Something not even Chris Roberts is dumb enough to do.

It's a good thing CIGs customers are willing to play that poo poo and pull out something that looks good, otherwise it's renders from Maya photoshopped on top of google image search pictures for beaches, sunsets, and clouds all day long.

I really hate the way they do these rollouts- shocking, I know. But seriously, they put out a version of the patch with one-tenth of the feature set and then tell everyone the whole thing is going out. Will the other features make it in? Will they be cut? Nobody knows! Nobody will even be sure after the patch makes it to the public servers, with features falling into "3.7.1" and "3.7.2" somehow.

Features that are supposed to be in this patch that might actually improve the game somewhat, if they make it out the door, along with caveats about why CIG is still a bad company please don't lynch me:
* Mission Sharing - The fact that this is just being done after the PU has been out for like, 4 years is a complete loving travesty. I'm betting this one gets cut or delayed, in any case. There are absolutely no missions that require more than one person to do, except for combat and that's only because the turrets in the game are straight trash. I guarantee they will divide the already meager mission payouts between all participants as well, because you do not do anything in Star Citizen without being punished for it in some way.

* Personal Inventory System - It'd be nice to actually be able to carry poo poo around, and I like the "Pack it in a box for your ship" feature. It's like an extremely-stripped-down version of the features they showed five or six years ago with the "Physicalized ship inventories," except of course that was all lies, and this has nothing to do with it, and also they already built an inventory system in the game for your guns, clothes, and weapons so this is actually a second and completely separate inventory system which isn't going to cause any sort of problems except for all the places where it does.

* Ship Rentals - This is the one feature that would most improve the game- the ability to actually check ships out at a reasonable in-game cost would actually give the game its first meaningful progression, outside the completely-unattainable ship purchases that populate the game right now. This feature would also devastate their ship sales, not just by giving idiots another outlet to get their collecting fix, but by lowering the perceived value of the ships. Big whale collectors do not want the ships to be available in game because it will cheapen the thrill of owning a big thousand dollar party barge or whatever if random videogame peasants can also have one. Mysteriously this feature keeps getting pushed back, and back, and back, despite ship purchasing already being in game. Hmmm! Definitely won't be cut this time though.

* AI combat/dogfight improvements - This wouldn't really improve much because there's so much more broken about combat than just the AI. As Warframe has already proven, you can actually have totally brainless AI and still do really fun combat if you get the player mechanics correct. But just having it off the loving checklist would at least eliminate one more Citizen talking point about how Star Citizen is eventually gonna be the greatest game ever made.

Features that are pointless wastes of time or just frivolous bullshit
* Character customization "v2"
* Caves
* FPS Mining
* Plant Harvesting
* 3 new spaceships
* 2 new guns

So what you're saying here is the next year is caves, FPS mining, and a dozen new hairstyles with physics bodies applied to them so they flow in the breeze?

Guns and ships is a given!

It's almost like a video game needs to abstract away certain things like the fidelity bolts on your 2billion polygon space ship so it has a heart attacks chance during space sex to actually get into a video game even on today's best hardware.

Not to fault CIG any but when it comes to female designs it seems like video games tend to go easy on the girls. Never mind. It's not a CIG art. Doesn't matter anyway.

I never understand the hate for boobs and such. Yes, women look different slightly. They have boobs. Adding boobs to a character is just making them female like. It shouldn't offend you so much you hate something because it has a girl in it. That makes you something else entirely.

Boob physics though can be going into silly territory but it's up to the game and the clothes I guess but I won't stop anybody from liking bouncing boobies in their video games if it makes them smile or something else entirely. You be you!

What the gently caress are you following Star Citizen for you loving idiot? The core designer is a guy who gets all his ideas from the movie of the month or outright loving steals it from another IP almost blatantly like your cheap-rear end ripoff sandworm. You're not going to find original ideas here so you better be happy with aliens that are "basically a person except uhhh... like a turtle/bird/lizard/cat also!" type design because that's all this twat can conjure up if his life depended on it while also delivering you the highly original storyline of "uhhh rebels in space with run down equipment and it's like World War 2 except in space!" So the correct course of action if CIG had a time-machine is to start with a small game like Elite Dangerous of Warframe, and just keep adding content and polish over time. I don't know poo poo about game development but usually a creator nails down down the formula first, then they have a pipeline that creates new content at a steady rate. I.E. Bioware made Baldur's Gate II in two years. It was twice as long as the original, with better graphics and deeper gameplay. They accomplished by establishing the formula of the first game and learning of all the little mistakes afterwards.

It also helps to have developer who didn't disappear from games for over a decade and actually accounts for modern trends.

Iterative development like this requires good project management.

This is where you get a focus and you stick to it and don't rub off chasing after the rabbit suddenly.

The problem with CIG has always been their lack of project management capabilities and that CR chases down something new every couple of months. Their deliveries are as broken and confused as you would expect. Their roadmap is a mishmash of ideas half baked along the way and thrown aside for the flavor of the month.

Iterative delivery for SC would have been a good idea. It would have given the team experience and knowledge for how to build more complex future ideas. Unfortunately here we are.

CRs inability to have patience with a good SDLC is disastrous to the project. His need for immediate gratification is not ever good for any software development studio in any line of work.

I think that's why space games are best handled by not really allowing you to do anything "on-foot" on planets. Conceptually it's a cool idea to expand beyond "you're a spaceship" to "you're a person in a spaceship" but it creates expectations for on-foot content that are almost impossible to meet. I can imagine some really tightly-controlled on-foot segments for set-piece story segments or ship boarding actions or something but what value is really added by letting you walk around a "living" city vs. quickly accessing quests from people via menus?

This is sort of what Mass Effect did, you couldn't just go wherever you wanted on-foot because that would have been stupid and pointless. They had limited areas where you could talk to NPCs for story purposes and all the combat missions dropped you right into the interesting part, you weren't slogging your way across planets and space in real-time.

I can't even comprehend how much money they have blown in relation to this whole idea of making everything 'fidelitious' when it would have been cheaper to do it in a Mass Effect-ish way and it would also be a way better game.

This, except you're using CryEngine which is designed for great first and third person games and not huge space fighting. Then as you go along you realize there are not a lot of tutorials on how to do a space game but reinventing an FPS game in an FPS engine turns out to be pretty simple. Your staff is comprised of professional artists and college kids working to get a CS or MIS degree.

The result is a pretty fantastic looking game (back in the day), and amazing marketing renders and photoshops, combined with janky at best gameplay that is plagued with horrible bugs that likely will never be fixed because nobody has that kind of skill or knowledge on the team.
