Those who carry an Auto-Pistol, ef= Revolver, or Tommy Gun are aware that they are restricted
to a limited number of rounds and dread the thought of being caught with an empty gun. Yet it
is an established fact that once contact is made and the firing starts, it is only a matter of
seconds before the one hand gun is empty, after which, i t wou l d not make a respectab l e c l ub .
We contend that at such a time, it would be a very comfortable feeling to know that one had a
well balanced fighting knife handy.

There are many who will regard this as rank heresy, or worse. I shall be content for the present
if the reader will concede me at least a title to my views and I hope to fortify the title
subsequently by statistics of actual results of shooting affrays with one-hand-guns over a
number of years which took place in Shanghai.

When I joined the Special Training Centre of the British Commandos (1940), the Authorities did
not recognize a fighting knife as part of the equipment of the Fighting Services. In fact, such a
thing as a fighting knife could not be purchased anywhere in Great Britain.

To meet the many requests, I designed the "FAIRBAIRN" knife and managed to persuade the
Wilkinson Sword Company to manufacture it privately from a number of old bayonets they had
in stock, personally guaranteeing the sale of three hundred. The day they arrived there was a
near riot in the rush to buy them. Shortly after this official recognition was given to the Fighting
Knife. This same knife was just as popular with members of the Armed Forces of the U.S.A. and
a number of Units were issued with it as part of their normal equipment.

fee l ing of confidence which such a kn i fe g i ves its owner, which is apprcnt l y so much greater

Let's just cut to the chase here. A therapist sees a lot of clients at any given time, and even more over the course of a lifetime, and it just stands to reason that one of them must be their favorite client, so what are some fool proof ways to make sure that client is you? Because I'm thinking that if they like you more, they'll probably let you order off the secret menu of therapeutic techniques, the good poo poo they only break out for the best of the best. I'm not saying that making sure your therapist likes you best will be easy, but even beyond the therapeutic benefits, if you can accomplish it, it'll also mean that you're objectively interesting and worthy of consideration by other important people in your life, like your parents, your partner, your boss etc. so it's definitely worth the time and effort to make it happen. I know there's all the obvious stuff you can do like tell them what a good therapist they are -- not in a weird way, just kind of casually -- or coming in and talking about how you're making progress but leaving out any of the times you made mistakes unless they're interesting. But I'm talking about "outside the box" stuff, like if you come into a therapy session and you go "boy, the guy that just left your office was really talking poo poo about you. He was saying you don't help him at all, and he lies to you all the time to test you and you never catch the lies." Stuff to make them grateful about what a good client you are.

I mean, I don't go to therapy so you don't have to worry about me, but I bet there are some people who could use this advice, because quite frankly right now, they're probably most people are probably not their therapist's favorite client. Statistically they're probably somewhere in the middle, where they go in, and the therapist sort of doesn't mind them, but then when they leave their therapist pretty much forgets they exist until the next session. Middle of the road. You're a therapist, you know what I mean. Like where you see them come in and you're like, "Oh, yeah, you again." Anyway, since there's so many people like that out there and some of them are probably reading this, think about how much more actual progress they'd be making if their therapists were excited to see them, or maybe even a little obsessed. Not like OBSESSED obsessed, but you know what I mean.

Would especially like any pointers about how you keep things "fresh" after you've been going to the same therapist for a while. Ways to rekindle the excitement. It's kind of a paradox, because your therapist will only like you if you're getting better and happier than you were, but on the other hand the only way they'll stay interested is if there's weird poo poo going on with you, and if you ever get too happy they'll probably tell you you have to stop coming. One idea I had was maybe the client could say something like "I don't think I'm making enough progress, I think I'd like to explore seeing a different therapist" every once in a while, maybe even have a piece of paper in their pocket that casually falls out onto the couch as they get up at the end of a session, and it has the names of other therapists on it and pros/cons like "pro, prettier than current therapist/con, I love my current therapist so much she could ask me to do anything, literally anything, and I'd do it like I was the god drat manchurian candidate." Something like that. Thoughts?
