One of the things that's great about the G1 and Cinderella tournaments (among others) is that there are usually a couple upsets and I wish AEW had more of those. I don't want upsets to be overused (especially because AEW would book them all as surprise rollups or some stupid poo poo) but the only "anything can happen" vehicle they have is the TNT title

It would be really nice if these Owen tournaments had at least one big solid upset as a way to start building someone up from the midcard

kind of hard to do in their format though, since you couldn't exactly do it in the weekly show because then that'd just be all the matches for ages. they'd need some sort of youtube event at least.

They should just add a capybara tag team

I honestly found KOR going over JB was a bit of an upset.

Jeff Hardy? I would agree. Hayter/Storm also seemed up in the air, particularly given the clear setup for Hayter/Baker as a second round match.

I didn't think Jeff winning was out of the question (I thought maybe Darby and Sting would help out Eddie and PNP so Sting could be in a Blood and Guts but that went out the window earlier that show) but I was genuinely surprised when he did.

Probably lean into the casino motif again. "AEW: Doing the Slots." Or "AEW: So Many Slots." You know, like that.

this glorious monument

On one hand Jungle Boy is very over and very good.
On the other hand his programs have not been memorable at all. And what is memorable about them have little to do with him. Kenny might as well have been screaming into an empty hallway.

Ana Jay had a different theme than the rest of the Dark Order on Elevation tonight. It's still a Dark Order theme but it's not the traditional "JOIN US" theme. Has she had this for a while or is this brand new?

The feud with the Elite was extremely memorable and had some great Jungle Boy moments.

Two blocks of six. 12 Large, brother.

But yeah the G1 also works because NJPW doesn’t have the same TV schedule that has existed for American wrestling since WWF Raw came on the first time. AEW doesn’t do that same insane loop, so it’s almost impossible to get 18 tournament days (alternating between blocks) into the same period of time.

More likely is a couple notable guys doing the NJPW G1, and having reports come through on Dynamite or Rampage.

If they're from a certain age just assume they were bottomlessly awful. It saves time and can be a nice surprise when there's nothing (at least nothing that comes out).

Eddie Kingston got mentioned a bunch too as someone who had no patience for that poo poo and as someone women appreciated for looking out for them.

And there was that awesome story about Sheamus where Allison Danger said someone on a British show was making the women uncomfortable in the showers, and suddenly Sheamus showed up and yanked the guy out with him and nobody saw him anywhere at all for the rest of the show.

Colt Cabana protected someone from that awful Crist brother too; that was mentioned by someone who'd been assaulted by Crist.

This is all probably true, but hm. Two blocks of four, call it Hard Eight. Top four ranked singles competitors without a belt get in, so do four "randomly" selected wrestlers. Each wrestler has three matches for a total of 24 matches across both blocks. Two on each Dynamite, one on each Rampage. That would chew up six weeks. Winner gets a title shot of their choice, plus the point order plays into the ranking in the new year after the reset. It's the focus of the company during those six weeks but that seems fine to me!

Downside: you don't have time to do both two of these at once and the women probably lose out. Unless some of the matches go to Dark/Elevation.

Yea, in the grand scheme of things he's certainly one of the least problematic people in wrestling and getting people who are otherwise too bro-douchey to chill and try yoga is probably a net good, on the other he peddles a light amount of pseudo science when it comes to his nutrition advice and is definitely looking to make a profitable program that helps people instead of a program which helps people and also is profitable.

So it's a wash.

I thought I heard/read Kimberly was upset Page didn't want to have any children, which was one of the reasons they got divorced - except that he had a daughter named Kimberly, born while together with Page, and I assume with her?

It's confusing because I know I've seen Kevin Nash talk about how much Kimberly wanted kids.

turn it all around

It can only be as good as the base material, and yoga at its base is going to do some good for you. DDP just puts a different coat of paint on it to appeal to a different type of audience. Not much different than like P90x or something where it's just specific types of exercises with some branding.

DDP went from managing night clubs to pro wrestling, it'd be amazing if he weren't a huckster. DDP yoga also doesn't differ much from more traditional yoga besides different names for things, which is kinda nice considering how insufferably new age most yoga people are.
