Does anyone know what the hell happened to Reborn and why that manga spiraled into what it did when it started as a fairly subdued gag manga and then became every shonen manga with a non-ending?

I was always under the impression that the beginning of the end for that series was the future arc which lasted way too long. I’m not sure if I would call its wrap up a non-ending though. The final arc wasn’t particularly rushed and covered most of the unanswered lore and loose ends.

Beelzebub is the axed series that will always bum me out though. I don’t even remember how it ended because its attempts to cover a serious storyline were way less interesting than when the characters were playing off of each other in low stakes situations.

There is a part, I don't know if it's at around the point when we're introduced to Kanzaki's family or earlier, but Furuichi falls off a roof when the pigtails guy + chill-longhair combo say something akin to:
  • :ohdear: "That musta hurt"
  • :) "Thank god this is a gag manga"
And I really appreciated that.

why did you decide to read the rape manga if you already knew what's the deal with it from reading this thread

im not accusing you of anything just sounds like a waste of time

Because I remember reading it when only like 3 chapters were translated, it was dumb fanservice kind of like that gym or that yoga anime (the one with cute anime girls telling you how to do stuff), so I was surprised when everyone said it ended in gang rape.

I get the impression that the author was genuinely acting with malice or something. Like he clearly consciously attempts to make things drastically more absurd in the last few chapters, with the "panty shots minus the panties" stuff immediately preceding the "introducing new character and backflashing to them being raped" part. I wonder if they notified him about the cancellation and he just lost his poo poo (though that still calls into question how it even got published).

And yes it gets really malicious, kinda like “you cancelled my work, now I’m turning this into rape hentai”.

I also bounced off Reborn in the middle of the future arc, and later learned how it ended and holy poo poo I’m happy I didn’t waste any more time in that.
What happened to Beelzebub? I stopped reading after the arc with Beelz big brother and a fight with “the other school”

Three pages worth of posts and nobody brings up Masami Kurumada? The guy had everything cancelled, his debut series, his successful series, the anime adaptation of his successful manga...

Wait, Saint Seiya was cancelled? I know the anime went through a lot of issues with the final arc (partly because of Kurumada himself), but for all I knew the manga lasted as long as he wanted it to. Hell, he even got a presequel out - which is terrible, but that's another matter entirely.

Maybe it's the fact that Kurumada eventually "made it"? Like yeah, maybe he got some of his series shitcanned, but Saint Seiya got an anime, Fuuma no Kojirou got an anime, Bt'X got an anime. Hell, even if it took almost 2 decades and a half, Ring ni Kakero eventually got an anime. And Saint Seiya will probably keep getting adaptations.

Like he ain't no Toriyama, Nagai or any other super big names, but dude seems to be doing alright.

Yeah, Saint Seiya is a big franchise with lots of spin offs and sequels and prequels, toys, video games and a crappy Netflix adaptation.

Not to mention the undying love of South America

It's more than that, Fuuma no Kojiro also got a live-action adaptation (with a bunch of people that'd later migrate to Kamen Rider Decade), while Saint Seiya is a massive franchise that keeps making GBS threads out incredibly expensive toys and spinoffs of varying quality, some of which are far better than the original series (Lost Canvas) and some that are definitely not (that awful CGI movie, the even worse Netflix adaptation). Hell, it got a new phone game recently that seems to have gotten pretty popular around here (granted, Latin America) despite looking like a horrible Chinese gacha scam to me.

It's a shame the Saint Seiya dub got axed.

I've been trying to figure out how to explain the experience of reading it without knowing what was going to happen, and the best I can do is the stargate scene from the end of 2001 except instead of a psychedelic journey through space and time it's horrific anime porn.
