I need to practice other routes for it but the one I was mostly working on was 2D counterhit. Dustloop has CH 2D > 214K > 5H > 66.5K > c.S > 2H > 236K but those last two parts feel insanely tight to link since the opponent isn't very high off the ground at that point so I just went c.S > f.S(x3) > 214K again for solid damage. I'm guessing if you get the 2H > 236K near the wall and force the bounce, you can further extend the combo for hella damage but, well, despite making to Floor 10 a few times over the last week, I'm still a fraud

fwiw this combo is CH 2D > 214k > 66.5k > c. S > 2h > 236k and it should be pretty trivial to finish since 236k cancels out of 2h. you have a lot of time after the dash kick to do close slash and cancel it immediately into 2h

e: also getting very frustrated by constantly making it to Floor 10 and getting deranked. I'm staying there longer, and a lot of it is my fault for dropping inputs, but man does it feel discouraging sometimes.

im not an authority or anything but it feels like the axl matchup is all about bait. dash blocking, IAD, tricky double jumps, whatever it takes to get him to whiff buttons at you so you can close the distance. super jumping feels like the worst option unless you're gonna 214S at a weird time. but yea i just do my best to make him guess wrong.

you need a better grasp on when it's your turn. you're pushing a lot of buttons in the middle of frame traps and pressure just hoping they get through. several times your spacing is nowhere near close enough to press the button you press. against faust you didnt block low while he was on the ground several times and got hit for it. and his mixup is pretty easy to block, you just block high if neither scarecrow has its eye lit up. against zato you're pushing buttons while eddie is out, sometimes in the middle of eddie moves that have several parts to them while he's on top of you. you bursted in a spot where there was no followup combo coming and you werent even close enough to hit him with the burst and then, again, you didnt block low

no they dont have to use unsafe moves but they have to end their block strings/frame traps eventually which lets you reset positioning by jumping or dashing out or YRC or faultless defense pushblocking. there's no infinite block strings that just keep you in the vortex forever

went to my local and played my roommates vip millia rd1 which i was 99% to lose and then bopped 2 terribles in losers and lost my third game to another millia. it is very hard for me to deal with millia pressure as gio. once i get into the vortex idk how to get out, i feel like i get meaty'd if i try to jump out and even if i jab my way out of a 2x overhead from her i dont have many places to go to start locking her down. when millia plays someone w invincible dp she has to be way more careful and idk how to compensate

obviously i need to block better and read her pressure better but then im like... now what

In fighting games "hit confirm" means a specific thing, and it's different from just doing a combo.
A "hit confirm" is a specific sequence of moves that works as both a combo starter and a safe block string, and is long enough for you to visually confirm whether it hit or got blocked so you know how to follow up (ether by continuing into unsafe combo buttons if it hit or by doing something safer and more defensive if it was blocked).

I don't know which of Giovanna's moves are best for this so you'll have to research it yourself. But once you find some good hitconfirm combos, you can go into training mode and set the dummy to random block to practice them out (maybe set it to jab or DP after blockstun ends too). Do the first 1-3 hits and then either continue the combo or block depending on whether the dummy got hit or blocked. You can and should figure out hit confirms off of several of your favorite buttons to push in neutral.

giovanna has several excellent combo starters

but you can confirm from 2d, 2s, cS, fS, 214k, 236k, air hs, 2k, the list goes on and on. many of them end very similarly too. almost all the combos in this video are starting from things you are likely to hit with during your frame traps or by dashing up or meaty or whatever.

having a stick owns but plenty of people have solid execution on pad as well, so I wouldn't be thinking of it as a necessary thing to get. there's a bit of a learning curve to it also, and you'll have different problems executing for a little while. that being said I'll never go back to playing on pad. Good options include Qanba, Hori, and some others. You could also go for a Hitbox and get Real Precise with it.

you can always upgrade to a fight pad of some kind if you see one you like, or if you think a stick will be cool you can get a stick. there are many options

idk for the most part you shouldnt care but theres also no reason to play a super high level person when you know you're not going to win 5 out of 6. and if you want to get better, you have to play people who are better than floor 10, so there's really no way around it. it's just a good idea to dodge some of the matchups that are lovely so you can fight better nerds

i am still having so much trouble fighting leo w gio. i go for pressure, his massive dp is immune. i back off at all and i suddenly have to block every type of mixup and if i guess wrong at any point it's a full combo. i just cant react and stand up to block that fast of an overhead, i cant recognize his throw and jump out, i cant react to the crossup and grab or jump out, none of it. it's really frustrating and I feel like I just don't have anything nearly as tricky despite doing what feels like the same amount of damage. it's just really starting to feel like gio is missing at least one of the tools to make her on par with the better parts of the cast.

why dont you have any combos? you're opening him up often but only for one hit. you need to hit him with poo poo you can do combos after.

My BnB Gio combo is c.Slash > f.Slash > 5H > 214K (wolf kick). Most of the time if the first hit connects, the whole thing will connect. But sometimes the wolf kick gets blocked. Is this combo not guaranteed, or am I just being too slow sometimes?

i like doing 2s after close slash in my block strings because people dont block their toes. but you're probably just not cancelling 5h fast enough. you can mash it out pretty fast
