But that's not true. Who's dominating and controlling Mr. Mushnik, or the Dentist, or Audrey 2? Who's dominating and controlling Patrick Martin? The one commonality between all the characters in the cast is their relation to capitalism.

They don't even really want more stuff is the point. What they desire is to escape poverty, or have fulfilling interpersonal relationships. They only think they want more stuff because it's packaged to them as the necessary trappings of a fulfilling lifestyle. Audrey wanting to escape her abusive relationship by moving to the suburbs is an inherent irony that can't be ignored. Suburban life wasn't a liberation for housewives, she's buying into a false promise sold to her by capitalism.

This analysis is on point.

Phillips also got his start making a GG Allin documentary, so he might just have a soft spot for transgressive anarchic chaos, regardless of what it's in service of.

Like, his Hangover sequel was the externalized version of the nihilism underpinning the original and I don't care enough to research if he intended that. He might just like not liking things.

The politics of any comic book property is gonna be suss just because it's by nature going to be a product of the most industry conforming Hollywood lifers so, at best, it's gonna be the product of some twerpy neolib who writes a story that tries to wrestle with the grim reality that there are people to the left of them by writing said lefties as villains that make some cool speeches before getting outed as insincere or crazy, or it's gonna be some mental grimdark poo poo written by a conservative that's so slow action dinosaur brained that they haven't realized they stopped being punk 20 years ago and are well on their way to being straight up fascist.

Minky Momo is a magical girl anime from the 80s. It's notable because the toy makers stopped paying royalties to the animation studio that was producing it, so to get back at them for being ripped off they killed off Minky Momo in the final episode of the season by having her get hit by a truck.

There's also The Curse of Minky Momo, because when that episode aired and every other time the last episode of a Minky Momo season aired - Japan was rocked by catastrophic earthquakes.

time travel as a plot device is always shite but man avengers end game managed to handle it in the dumbest way possible

Hollywood big budget movies these days are more like a highly elaborate capitalist welfare system for computer touching visual effects artists. Literally the only Star Wars film that doesn't have whack as gently caress pacing is Empire Strikes Back. All of the others have some fuckey editing/pacing issue(s). They of course exist on a spectrum, so like, Episode I is the worst because it has 35 minutes worth of actual content, while Episode IV is slow to start and meandering but recovers the landing. And Episode VI has that whole Ewok Adventure loving up the film's pace.

Empire was the movie where Lucas had the least control over during filming because Kershner kept a tight grip on the reins during production, which led to a solid, coherent picture. Lucas approaches filmmaking as an editor and so he concentrates almost exclusively on getting as much material as he can (from a distance), then goes back with sfx and editing to make the movie he wants, hence A New Hope (Lucas directed). After having his vision pushed back against during the filming of Empire (and Fox complaining that the dour tone of Empire led to a harder to market product) Lucas went looking for a fanboy director that A) knew nothing about fx and B) wouldnít buck when Lucas micromanaged him. He just wanted someone competent and obedient to do the boring work of getting him the footage he needed so that he could make his movie out of it in post. Marquand did what he was told, a movie was made, toys sold, the end...?
