Man, it sucks that the Netflix show Damnation got cancelled after one season. I've been re-watching it and it's pretty good. At first you think it's going to do that ole tripe that the strikers are just as bad as the industrialists, the main strike leader used to be a strikebreaker! But it turns it around and you realise he actually did have a change of faith, and they are really trying to inspire widespread revolt.

I haven't seen it, but i watched that King movie on Netflix, and you've got to give Robert Pattinson props for going from the guy from twilight to a pretty good actor. He's character was so close to over the top in that movie, but still good.

Yeah, I saw it as like a roadshow thing, both movies in a row with a decent intermission, I thought it was a pretty decent representation and pretty memorable. It got tons of appreciation in Cuba, which I like.

I kind of like the movies, but i will say, I saw a comedy movie in toronto and it was way better with audience involvement. it wouldn't always be the case, but it can make a movie better.
ps. one time i went to see a movie premiere for some not kid movie, but they had I want to say the mars needs mom trailer in front of it. anywho, it was a big mismatch. so the trailer ends and the theatre is silent. so i just said "that looks good" and i swear to god, a bunch of people laughed. i didn't look around to see if anyone stood up and clapped though.

yeah, rogue one might be my favourite star wars movie. the ending, how it shows how the events of new hope started perfectly, the lack of real jedi (perfectly backs up the "there is no jedi" mindset of han, pretty cool battles.
There's a battle in one of the new star wars that is almost exactly the same as Hoth. introduce a couple variables dammit!

The main issue imo was the tonal shift, it felt a bit campy for a sequence that was intercut with ostensibly serious scenes. The whole trope of "million year old sensei sighs while unsheathing his sword and proceeds to kick rear end" is extremely good though.

yeah, i liked that scene. they at least established it earlier when obi-wan tells anakin that "if you keep up that practice you'll eventually be a swordsman to match master yoda" and anakin goes "i thought i already did".
they did seem to establish that all the flipping around was physically exhausting for him, hence why he doesn't do it all the time.

sorry, i don't hate the prequels as much as some.

Resisting the Empire for it’s own sake and vaguely defined notions of liberty or whatever is some lib brained poo poo and got innocent people killed in a riot that would have made more of an impact if it had happened peacefully.

i thought it was pretty funny she mentions that, "i'll admit calling people to fight for their lives is easy for a dead person" but what the next poster said is correct, it's absurd to expect a full blown rebellion to come out of a single action.

StashAugustine posted:

I think it's entirely intentional that all these spontaneous uprisings against the Empire end up getting crushed- to take your analogy the Easter Uprising was a complete failure on its own terms but it was the start of a bigger movement that eventually led to independence. Luthen et al are trying not just to spark unrest but eventually redirect it into what will be the Alliance (and ironically, the final coup that seals the deal and unites the fledgling Alliance will be the Death Star)
Exactly, losing the battle to win the war. americans are huge fan of big disasters at the start of their wars, it gets the populace's blood all hot. Tonkin gulf, pearl harbour, remember the alamo, remember the maine! maybe it's just good pr taking advantage of the fact they tended to drawn down their army into a state of lethargy, but whatever, massacres can sometimes being almost more motivating, especially if it's the result of a previous victory (in this case aldani)
